We also put a metal roof on part of the house and that turned out beautiful. They also installed the gutters. Great communication and all in all we are thrilled with the job! So nice to find a company that really cares about their customers, takes pride in their work and does a great job. Will be building another house next year, and already have them in contract. I contacted this company on yelp and they were very responsive in getting a quote to me right away. Had to wait a few weeks for permits to be pulled, and once that happened, we set a date for the work and it was completed all in one day. I did a full-roof replacement and the crew got to work immediately upon arriving at my property. These guys work hard! They also did an incredible job with cleanup...It was like they were never there. My new roof looks awesome and I can't recommend this company enough. Probably one of the few times in my life I've hired a contractor and they did exactly what they said they were going to do, on-time, and exactly on budget (which was completely reasonable). read more

Wonderful experience. We called 3 roofers. The first one showed up but would not call us back thereafter. The second apparently did not need the work as his price was more than 3x our other quotes. Jan and Elizabeth are very professional, good communicators, and highly dependable. We have tenants whose schedules reduced our timeframes for getting the job done but Jan was flexible and responsive to our constraints. The work was completed in a timely fashion with no suprises. It is rare to find a company these days that does really high quality work -- Jan's company is one of them! We have 250+ year old house that has slate roofing. We've had a number of companies over the years work on it... none have ever really been asked to come back. Not only haven't I felt confident of their work, but, usually, within weeks or months, that lack of quality shows through... and they just blame the house for being old (even when they are removing an old roof and starting from scratch!). Jan is a bit on the quiet side for communication, but is completely over the top in terms of quality, attention to detail and thoroughness. It's very rare to find a company that reports problems, but you don't feel like they are manufacturing it. ie., Jan found areas that needed work, took picture with his phone and demonstrated with the materials what the problems were. He replaced two sections of roof with new materials (all slate) and replaced about ~40 miscellaneous slate around the house that had been damaged (some less than 2 years old and installed by idiots). I guess the best I can say is that we've asked him back to do more work for us. read more

Jan and his team are hard working, well equipped and knowledgeable, they did a good job on our slate roof (replacing some broken tiles etc). They made and installed custom copper sleeves on our roof vents, and wiped them clean and shiny after I commented that they were dirty. Site cleanup could have been better; some screws and nails were left on the gravel in our back yard, were we park the cars. These are serious roofers, that can handle complex jobs. Just make sure to coordinate expectations on what will be installed, aesthetics, finish, clean up etc. read more

I truly cannot say enough positive things about Jan and his team - they are excellent. I had a leaky skylight, at the peak of ice and snow season here in Boston, and all I could think was - ugh, time to find a roofing company - and hopefully a good one at that. You see, I had found a roofer on Yelp three years ago, and he put in those skylights which had already leaked twice before (this roofer who put them in came out and couldn't find the cause). So I certainly wasn't going to contact him again with this third instance of leaking. So it was back to Yelp to try and find a new (and more reliable option) - and that's when I came across Jan and Ipswich Roofing. Where were they when I needed them three years ago?? :) I called Jan and was able to quickly make an appointment. He came out to survey the roof and provide me with an estimate. And, he was able to easily identify the likely cause of the leaking - the previous roofer had never flashed the skylights - they could totally be lifted up and off the openings! (??!!!) Which means when we got lots of snow and ice, it was making it's way right up and under the skylights and into the drywall space which = water dripping through the ceiling. Jan also found another hole, and a few seams that needed to be sealed, but said that overall the roof was in good shape and should last another 10 years or so (no trying to upsell me into a new roof, or scare tactics to try and make it a bigger job than it needed to be!) After providing me with a very reasonable estimate (it's a 160 year old brick brownstone with a flat rubber roof), we agreed on a time for him to come back with one of his guys to do the work. They had to trudge up and down three flights of stairs to get the materials up to the roof - and did it professionally, with smiles, and left my home as clean as before the work started. They did an excellent job with the repairs, raising the height of the skylights up to further protect them from the elements, and went through all of the repairs with me so that I could see what had been done. And I am SO happy to say that I have not had any further issues, even with the additional snow, ice, and rain we've recently had. Thank you Jan and Ipswich Roofing! read more

He gave me a valid reason for forgetting about the remaining work and took full responsibility and apologized. He quickly schedule a time to come to the house and finish the remaining work. I also hope to have him do another job now that I know I can trust him. Like the saying goes, you learn more about a person's character when things go wrong rather than when they go right. I would recommend Jan and his company and would expect most to receive a 5star performance. I asked if he could fix the flashing at the gutters and how much extra it would be. He said it would be nothing. I'm mostly responding to the 1 Star review - to be fair, due to the storms this past winter and the general climate of the construction industry right now, roofers are extremely busy. Perhaps his response could have been kinder, but roofers and construction companies in general right now are very selective in the work they take on. I was looking to have my roof replaced which included stripping the old asphalt shingles. I called several contractors with varied proposals. Jan came to my home on a Sunday(at the time promised) and looked at the job. A day or two later I had my quote for exactly what we discussed. The entire experience was perfect. My wife and I bought a condo in September, and we soon discovered that the gutters were not working right. The rain water just ran down the outside of the house instead of going down the gutter pipe. We put off dealing with it, but with the massive snows this winter, one of the gutters just fell off the house due to the weight of all the ice on it. Jan is an amazing person. My insurance company required a report on the roof of my house as a precondition for insuring me. Jan came by at very short notice and did an assessment on the roof and promptly sent me the report (at no cost). I had to correspond with him a few more times because the insurer was picky about details and Jan always made the time to speak and correspond with me. I had read the great reviews on Yelp and decided to give this company a try. My building's gutters fell due to the storms we had this winter and the association was looking for quotes from various companies, of which one recommended much larger scale of work than we had anticipated so we wanted a second opinion. Jan was fairly quick to respond to my email after I had initially talked to him over the phone. He swung by on a weekend and did a walk around. Told me that the shingles on a siding look rough and should be replaced, but can't give me an estimate without going up on the roof. We took some time and wrote to him asking for a quote to fix the gutters and also to schedule some time for him to look at the roof with third floor access. That was the last time he responded and I followed up multiple times over email and tried to call. Finally, I asked him over email if he hadn't responded because he didn't see or if he's just not interested. He finally replied, ''Sorry. Not interested.'' That made me wonder and think that 1) this customer service is not as good as all the reviews say, and 2) the shingles weren't really that rough to begin with and he realized later on that the gutters weren't profitable enough to take on alone... My friend found this company on Craigslist. During this awful winter there was of course toooooo much snow on her roof & leaking. They (with owner Jake) came out when they said they would with a much lower bid. They were professional & pleasant so she posted on her facebook page how pleased she was with them on Wednesday night. I was extremely concerned about my neighbor roof & they were away. Several other of their friend also came by to access the problem. Both of their referrals offered bids for $700 more than what this company did it for. He came out to give an estimate on Thursday night & completed the project by lunch Friday! He came with 2 men, both again pleasant & professional. I believe him when he said a lot of what he isd oing now is to just really wanted to help people out & before the next storm hit tomorrow!! We called Jan after we had a tree damage a corner of our house over the summer. With our insurance money we were able to have the whole roof re-shingled, as well as install all new gutters and trim, in addition to the necessary roof and soffit repairs. Jan and a helper were able to remove all the damaged parts, old shingles, and old gutters and trim within one day and they had the house completed with all new shingles, gutters and trim within three days. I was very pleased with Ipswich Roofing & Siding Inc. Jan came out to assess our tar roof and determined that some patching & minor repairs would allow us to get several more years out of it before replacing it with a rubber roof. In addition to the patching & repairs, they also repaired a leaking roof hatch and replaced some trim & flashing on a door we were having trouble with. We had previously had another company attempt to repair the roof hatch several times and they were unsuccessful. Jan removed the hatch, covered the opening, and took the hatch back to his shop. He took it apart, resealed it, and had it back to us within a few days. I was very happy with all of the work that Ipswich Roofing & Siding performed and would highly recommend them. I contacted Ipswich Roofing and two other companies with good Yelp reviews on July 6, 2013 about repair or replacement of our rubber roof. Jan (the owner) got back to me on July 12 and offered to come by the next day to take a look. He arrived a little early, got up on the roof, took photos with his phone to show me what repairs were needed, and patiently answered all my questions. He got me an estimate the next day, with two options: replace the whole roof or repair the damaged area. Since the roof still had some life in it, we went with the repair option. I asked him for references and he provided three in short order. They all had glowing reports so we hired Jan to do the work. He scheduled our job within a few days (July 24). He and his team showed up as expected, completed the work within a day, and left everything very clean. It rained hard the next two days, so we got to test out the repairs right away -- no leaks. I'm very satisfied! Would definitely recommend Jan and his company. Meanwhile, the other two companies that I contacted never even got back to me! read more
