SAKURA Sushi Cafe in Frankfurt - Christmas Tree Special

No more sausages and potatoes!), but unfortunately, it was a big disappointment. We ordered the Christmas tree special for the 2 of us and it came with lots of rolls, but most of them tasted mediocre. Some of the raw fish weren't even fresh. Also, the sauces didn't go well with the sushi. Maybe my standards are too high because I'm from California. It's sad to say that the sushi at our Japanese supermarkets are better than this. Service was a bit slow, but our waiter was very polite and friendly. If you're looking for a quality Japanese restaurant, this isn't the place to be.

We headed over to Sakura and were immediately welcomed by the Japanese host. He was very patient and quickly arranged a table for us in their quaint covered courtyard. The fact that all 7 of us could drop in on a late Saturday afternoon with no reservation was amazing. Our waiter was at least tri-lingual and very attentive with our requests (not gonna lie...some people in this group are needy). Food arrived fairly quickly and was phenomenal. Some of the best sushi I have had in Europe! 10/10 will be back!

The décor nice, casual enough for the price. We are on the patio because of the weather and Covid but inside looks really great also. The service was absolutely shocking. Bad, slow, rude so in reality I think management needs to pay attention but the cook's and all area's in the kitchen deserve 2 thumbs up. Will I go back? Maybe. Frankfurt has fabulous restaurants. Service is definitely very important to me. Make a reservation. Even in Covid the restaurant was packed and people were turned away.

I called to make sure they had table since we travelled with young children, but they were fully booked for the night. The person answered the phone sounded very nice over the phone so I decided to make reservation online for the next day, and I was glad I did. Overall, it was an excellent dining experience. The ambiance was fancy, definitely fit for a celebration/anniversary. I felt like we over ordered since we wanted to try many dishes here, but we didn't regret it. All the dishes were delicious. Service was okay. It could be better since it's pretty pricey here. Honestly, we were aware the dining service in Germany is different compared to the US so we didn't expect a top notch service. I would come back if I ever visited Frankfurt again.

I ordered omakase (€49) for dinner, which is not pricy compared to other Japanese restaurants in NYC or Cali. Things got weird with starter. Spinach with black sesame dressing is ok, still in my acceptable range. But I don't like they put carrot, seaweed, raw shrimp and a slice of scallop in the the same bowl. It tastes kinda bad. The sushi part is fine except the last piece that they put salmon roe and salmon together... I prefer it to be all salmon roe. The hot dish is the main reason i really couldn't give a 4 star. The beef and the fish were all very overcooked and hard to chew. I barely ate them. Then the final dessert is great. Two ice cream balls, one sesame one green tea with the right amount of sweetness and come with some fresh fruit. Overall is ok. It's near several nice hotels and convenient.

It comes with miso soup, and has a very good variety of different food. You get some fried chicken, salmon, dumplings, sushi, oshinko, and salad. I prefer that my sushi fish is cut from a large piece of fish when ordered. Here, everything seemed to be pre-cut. Especially for the price, I think this is unfortunate. The EUR9.50 large bottle of water was also upsetting. Service was prompt and friendly even if the servers didn't have a good understanding of English. If you're in Messe Frankfurt for a trade fair, I think it's worth walking just outside the fair to eat here. Compared to what you get for the cost in the exhibit hall, this place is no-brainer.

I really like the way ordering the menu by showing the purchased Groupon on my iPhone. We had a 3 course menu with Miso soup, Gyoza dumplings, luxury platter with fine selection of sushi and dessert. I first ordered the Sashimi Deluxe from the menu but was disappointed in the selection of fish--after checking the Yelp reviews and realizing that the next door kaitenzushi was connected and had a fuller selection, I queried the server. Luckily she was very sweet and spoke English. I was able to switch to the multi course (6 normally, but since I arrived late, 5) meal on an iPad menu. You choose up to four dishes per course or round and have 15 minutes before you can submit your next round of selections. There's a timer and you can't submit your next round until it zeros out. This was a new concept for me and I enjoyed the execution of it. It was way too much food if you try to maximize to 24 dishes--on round three I asked them to halve my portions to a single sushi nigiri piece each dish instead of the customary two. I wanted the variety, but not volume. I ended on round 4 and am still overly full hours later. The business model was neat and modern, the servers both very sweet and the portions generous, especially for 25.30 Euros which included my jasmine tea. The fish seemed fresh, but I would have liked to see a broader selection--I would be willing to pay an upcharge for hamachi, toro, and uni. The fried selection was not a full fledged izakaya menu but good sampling. The desserts were also a good sampling although more than the mochi, I really wanted small scoops of azuki or matcha ice cream. Four stars is appropriate for a value meal chock full of options tailored to more mass appeal in a tastefully modern setting with kind waitstaff.
