I usually stop by a travel center for restroom breaks and for their convenient store.. We were on our way home from NorCal and stopped here for a short break. The restroom (at least for Women) were super clean and huge. Not sure if this is a popular stop destination but it's so clean and huge, def exceeded my expectations. Buttonwillow... Sometimes the best travel centers are in cities that are unknown to mankind. There are several gas stations around this particular area. TA is .20 more. There's plenty of parking for cars, RV's and semis. I particularly liked the customer service, the cleanliness/neatness of the store, and the sanitized/cleanliness of the bathroom and extra wide size stalls. this used to be our go to stop while driving up n down the 5 specifically for the clean ta bathrooms. but today it officially got removed from the list. the womens room: half the stalls were locked from the inside. the ones that were open all had no seat covers. and then toilet paper was a hit or miss. i was like ff! then my son came out of the mens room and was like mom the bathrooms were not good. its nice to be able to fill up. and grab a snack. and some tacos from the food trucks but i can go else where read more

Last stop for the day, this TA was in good shape. Clean restrooms and a well stocked convenience store. I'm glad I didn't have to purchase gas here as it was definitely more expensive than 70 miles ago in Tehachapi. This station is right on the interstate and very convenient. Easy to access though no overnight parking. Stay for an hour or two and then move on. After the last two state rest areas on the highway, I was not going to try again for a bit. This was very good. I can't thank Kelly enough for her kindness and help. I had accidentally left two bags behind in the Popeyes next door, with my wallet, sunglasses, camera, and GoPro inside, and realized it only after I was hundreds of miles away. The TA Travel Center here and the Popeyes share the same open space, so when I called after 11 PM and found Popeyes was closed, Kelly was able to walk right over to check for me. She personally confirmed my bags were safe, even though it was late at night. She was friendly, professional, and truly went above and beyond to help a stranger in need. Usually the go to gas station to fill up at on way to So Cal or on way back to Nor Cal. Better prices than other stations in the area. There's a Popeye's on the other side of market. The store inside has all the snacks and drinks to get for the road. If you're there early, the bathrooms usually are out of order for cleaning. But there are more bathrooms in the back. read more

A few weeks ago I was driving 800 miles up California to assist friends in NorCal. I needed radiator antifreeze for my BMW. NO gas station had antifreeze. I went to the Diesel Truck Garage and the owner Lalo contacted numerous supply stores and found one about 15 minutes from his business. He provided transportation so my car would not overheat and then filled the radiator when we returned to his garage. He was the first Guardian Angle I encountered on that 1600 mile round trip. read more

Raquel Chavarin "Store Lead" was in a hurry rushing because of the long line she put our gas on the completely wrong pump when we told which pump 2 times even repeated it because she did not hear right the first time obviously. Even pointed straight to our car at the window behind her. She put it on the wrong pump and we ended up losing $35 because of her mistake. Most expensive gas on the block. Drive 20 m up the street and you'll find cheaper gas. The mini Mart met expectations, but did not by any means exceed them. The only gas in town more expensive is the Sinclair. They're hoping to rip people off just as they jump off the freeway, counting on folks not seeing the cheaper gas just around the corner. read more

The most important thing about this service station is that they have the best gas price among the stations in the area! Gas is expensive, why would you go anywhere else. I was here in the middle of the night and I needed some coffee, water and a pee break..mission accomplished ! This is our favorite stop for gas and bathroom facility. It is located midway between Los Angeles and San Jose on freeway 5 at exit 257. The gas price is reasonably cheaper than other gas stations along the route. The bathroom facility is very clean, well stocked with toilet paper and hand soap. The best of all, it has many stalls :) One can also try crispy chicken at the Popeyes or tacos at the Taco Bell next door! No wonder there is a Tesla Super Charger across the street, since most Tesla Super Chargers are near good locations. Definitely one the best gas locations on the Interstate 5 Highway. The restrooms are regularly serviced. The Popeyes and Taco Bell are nice and convenient. This location is my preferred half way stop between San diego and San Francisco. read more

From now on while on road trips I will only stop at travel centers. They're always clean, plus you can purchase drinks and snacks. Sometimes if you're too tired to keep going, you can rest for a few minutes. The regular rest stops are filthy. You would think with Covid they would be cleaned. We stopped by here to use the restrooms during our supercharging session across the street since the Starbucks was closed. Restrooms were very clean and there seems to be someone cleaning all the time. Free Ice & Eclipse Gum! SITREP Sometimes my needs are simple while I'm on the freeway. THE SETUP On this occasion, the heat was getting to me along the 5, and the A/C is not always up to par. I needed to get some ice to cool down (up?) my Pepsi and this was the exit coming up. ICE Cool policy I'm discovering with all of the Travel Center's I've been hitting: if you have your own sport bottle or cup, the ice is FREE. (I like that! They charge me a quarter or 50 cents inside the limits of L.A. or San Francisco). GUM I chew it like it's going out of style, and on this occasion I didn't have the presence of mind to get a trip in to Costco to grab the big pack of Eclipse sugar free gum. Luckily for me, they had the double-pack for $1.50 which lasted me the whole weekend (and then some - what's today, Tuesday? I'm still chewing on it and have a few pieces to spare). This place is absolutely wonderful for so many reasons. I was on my way back down from San Jose and I was pushing my car close to empty. When I stopped on this exit, there were several gas stations and I had to choose one. I went searching through all the prices for each station. Shell's looked the cheapest but they trick you by putting in small letters "Cash/Shell Card" for the lower prices, meaning you'll pay at least $0.20 more each gallon if you pay with anything else. The 76's price on their billboard didn't match their pump at all. So when I pulled up to Travel Center's Mobil gas pump, I was thrilled to see it was exactly the price they advertised and was cheaper than anything I've seen in the last 300 miles (and consequently, 200 miles after as well). It was whilst I was pumping gas that I started to realize how great this place was. The Greatness - The squegees they use aren't all raggedy and broken. They work well and even better, the water they're in is actual SOAP water. None of this crappy, dirty water to clean your windshields. You'll actually get a good clean at this place! - I went inside to use the restroom and it wasn't just clean, it had marble tiles on the walls. Don't believe me, look at the picture I posted up. It has stainless steel stalls, coat hangers, and actual paper towels so you don't have to try and blow your face clean after washing it. And if there's something you don't like, the manager left her card next to the exit so you can tell her your complaints. That's attention to detail! - This place not only has a huge convenience store located inside, but they also have a Taco Bell Express and full on restaurant attached to it, with an All You Can Eat buffet. What the math?! That's great! Multiple choices in one convenient location. - I had my own personal water bottle with me that I've been drinking throughout the drive. I didn't know if it would fly, but I decided to ask the Taco Bell worker anyways if I could fill up my bottle with water from their soda fountain machine. She smiled and said, "Sure". Now I know that's a little thing, but to someone who just wants some cold, refreshing, free water, that simple act could bring tears to your eyes. - CHEAP, QUALITY GAS! - You don't feel like you'll get mugged here. Safety first. Cons - NONE! Okay, maybe in the strange, off-chance-eclipse-of-the-moon, you get some cranky service or there's a long line for the restroom because you followed a tour bus all the way to this place. I really can't think of anything else. Place is the bee's knees. So, if you find yourself going down the 5 for a long trip, make sure you stop here to get gas and some refreshments. This is always my go-to pit stop when my family and I would travel to SoCal. The bathrooms are clean, and there are other things conveniently located nearby for restaurants. This place is a great place to get gas and snacks or any things you may have forgotten at home. Warning though: most things located around here are overpriced because there's not much competition with any other chain restaurants. The Megbus makes their midway stop here for half an hour. If you're going to grab something to eat at the Taco Bell here, order first then use the restroom while you wait for your order- it can get pretty crowded because there's multiple buses that usually make pit stops here. read more

Okay honestly though what would you expect from a travel center where hundreds of people pass by on a daily basis and people only stop for a bathroom break or at most a gas stop with a few snack minutes in between? Overall as a center full of amenities that you would need on a road trip especially from NorCal to SoCal, it's not bad at all. Most of the bathrooms are clean and there's a lot of food and junk snacks to be had if you're craving such. However, the only gripe I have about this place aside from the astronomical gas prices because they know you can't go anywhere else for a while if you're out of gas is the ridiculous smell. It's almost like a mixture of rotting food and bathroom and consumes the ENTIRE place. in the summer they don't have AC inside either (or at least not when I went .... maybe it broke ....) but made the smell EVEN WORSE. This is my favorite and only place I stop during my road trips to SoCal. The gas is one of the cheapest along the way at the Mobil gas station. The TA has VERY clean restrooms and none of the snacks are over priced. On top of that, they have a 7-11 type of section that has doughnuts, slushies, etc. It's also connected to a taco bell and pizza hut express that often has promotions for cheap pizza. If you're really trying to take your time to SoCal, a Country Pride restaurant is also connected to this place. I've never tried it so I'm not sure how good it is. read more

I have grown to love Travel Centers through the course of driving back and forth from Northern California to Southern California several times. Travel Centers have everything you need from a stop when on a long road trip! Food, Gas, Restrooms and more - all in one place. This particular location is smaller than others I have been to but still has everything a traveler needs. Food: There is a restaurant if you would like to sit down and eat. There is also a Taco Bell & Pizza Hut Express, if you want something quicker. Restrooms: All restrooms that I have been to at Travel Centers are clean. This one is right up there with the best. I also took a photo to show how nice they are because I KNOW how hard it is to find a decent restroom on a road trip. Trust me, you will want to stop here versus an random gas station. Plan stops ahead if possible! Gas: This location has Mobil Gas. The gas pumps and filling area are kept nice and clean. I am not sure if the pricing is competitive or not. The prices were reasonable enough for me and I'll take it especially if I can get everything I need in one stop. I would definitely recommend this Travel Center for a road trip. Just a note: There is a bigger Travel Center in Arvin with more food options - if you have a bigger party - but if not, stop by this location, it's just as good! read more

4 stars for gas, 3.5 stars for Country Pride buffet. This TA consistently has some of the cheapest gas prices along I-5 between Norcal and Socal, at least when paying by credit card. There are lots of window signs for the Country Pride restaurant, but they always look closed due to the dim lighting inside. Not so. I had dinner buffet here tonight and it wasn't anything I'd write home about, but it was pleasant. The buffet is $10.99 and some of the items I had were: - Standard salad bar - Beef veggie soup - Chicken noodle soup - Rice, beans and tacos - Baked chicken (tasted fried) - Potato wedges - Steamed green beans and carrots - Spaghetti noodles and tomato sauce - Some sort of baked apple desert The food was tasty but nothing over the top. It felt like a homely meal but probably not as healthy. Service was friendly. There's also a menu you can order from if you don't feel like buffet. read more
