Barbie loves to show off a little T&A, so it makes sense that we'd often stop at TA travel centers, although this one was a Trails (Petro) as recently as a month or two ago. What a truly awesome Travel Center located in Albert Lea Minnesota when you first cross the border coming up from Iowa - or perhaps when you're reaching midway point across the state of Minnesota on Interstate 90. One of my favourite travel stops in the country largely because they have really cool dining options like the home cooking at Iron Skillet and the interesting bar food at Skol Tavern. And they also have an amazing Viking theme going on all over this Travel Plaza and it's hard not to fall in love with it. It's clean and friendly and large (like your gf) and it has pretty cheap gas as well. What more could you ask for? Having just been taken over by TA, I hope this travel center continues to be just as amazing. It worries me, I hope they don't change it - at all. read more

Excellent service, friendly employees. We stayed in our class B RV in the parking lot. Showers are $17, good water pressure.

Trails Travel Center has everything worth pulling over for: clean bathrooms, fast food, a viking theme, hearty diner food, a gift shop that would appease any auntie you're visiting, fresh and packaged snacks, gasoline, auto & convenience store, and as Will S said, cheese curds. Lots of 'em. I enjoyed some grub at the Iron Skillet (separate review), and would have grabbed a drink at Skol Tavern, but ya know, I was driving. Everything there was clean, bright, and organized, and all of the employees are Minnesota Nice af. But special shout out to the bathrooms (or the womens' at least) for having wet wipes for the toilet. Nice touch! They also had baggies for feminine hygiene products, efficient hand dryers, and anti-sex-trafficking posters. I can get behind all those things! read more

This is a welcome Oasis in an otherwise desolate drive up north from Iowa. As others have mentioned, they have a huge selection of jerky and cheese curds, baked goods and small restaurants. It was really refreshing to talk to friendly people and have clean restrooms, not to mention fairly priced gas. The decor is woodsy up north and Vikings, so kids might think it's kinda fun as well. This is a really clean and well stocked travel center. It's worth planning your stop around if you are on a long journey. We will stop here again for sure read more

Holy cheese curds. They have at least 10 varieties and five brands of cheese curds for sale here. Seems a bit much but whatever. Trails Travel Center is your typical giant truck stop, only presented as a Viking lodge. There's fast food. All the pre-packaged gas station type foods that you only eat in shame/desperation. Jerky. Sausages. Fried chicken buffet. Cheese curds. So many cheese curds. Even a little bar called Skol tucked away behind the chicken buffet. Stop by if you need to gas up, grab grub, have a few drinks before getting behind the wheel (not recommended) and need all the cheese curds. read more

We stopped here last week on the way up to the Twin Cities from Ames. There's also something about the Albert Lea area during periods of inclimate weather as we were slipping and sliding all the way down the Exit ramp. I kept my parent's car whole, but this was a good time to fill up and regroup a bit. That was a good thing as things (including lots of cars in the ditch) got worse for another 30 or so miles North. No more speed, I'm almost there Gotta keep cool now, gotta take care Last car to pass, here I go And the line of cars drove down real slow I love Truck Stops don't really need much of an excuse to stop into one that looks interesting. The movie "Truck Stop Women" also comes to mind. The Trails TA Travel Centre is on the large side as it lies near the major intersection of I-35 and I-90. There's a Shell station in front for the cars and a huge area in back for the trucks. Inside contains almost everything that I one might expect in the light of day. In addition to a restaurant and convenience store offerings, you'll find various Trucker parts and supplies, a kitchy gift shop, and of course various accommodations (showers, theatre, lounge, etc.) to assist these road warriors as they keep our economy moving. While my family and friends were vacationing in Hayward a few weeks ago, so we stopped by this travel center on the way up. I ran in, bought a HUGE bottle of water to share with all of our kids, ran out, and drove away. The experience was good and fast. They also had a bunch of cheese that I didn't get a chance to take a look at. read more

This place is heaven. You basically NEED to stop here. In addition to having a Mac D, Iron Skillet, Cold Stone and Pizza Hut, there's seriously everything you could ever want to eat in this place. Fried gizzards, sloppy joe, potato soup, make your own slurpee, rotisserie chicken, every snack ever, the list goes on. The bathrooms are PRIVATE STALLS. With hair dryers and decorative flowers. And a fan. Just perfect. I could live here. read more

My Co-Workers and I were on a trip from Minneapolis to Cedar Falls, IA and we needed a place to relieve ourselves and pick up some snacks. This place had a restaurant and a McDonald's if you wanted fast food. The restrooms were clean and the people working there were really nice and helpful. They had Frank's Red Hot Sunflower Seeds, so I was a happy camper! read more

What a GREAT truckstop! The restrooms were clean! The gift shop side is FUN! There is a booth with several varieties of FUDGE! Oh. My. Goodness! We sampled the Caramel Apple Pie and Ooey Gooey Fudge...soooooo good! There is an Iron Skillet, Pizza Hut Express, Cold Stone Creamery and Skol's Tavern. Lots of fun options, although I wouldn't reccommend the Iron Skillet directly...go to the Skol Tavern side and order the Iron Skillet food (thry use the same menu), as the tavern employees are much nicer and attentive. This is a BIG travel plaza with plenty of truck parking. I hope we have an opportunity to come here again! read more

This is easily one of the best truck stops I've ever visited while traveling across the country! After many many years of traveling between Colorado and Wisconsin, you get pretty good at finding the best stops and consistently sticking to them. Trails Travel Center in Albert Lea is one of them. Plenty of pumps to fill the car, of course, but you'll find all the good stuff inside. Tons of souvenirs, pre-made food, snacks, huge bathrooms, some with showers I believe, and even a few restaurants to boot. Definitely add Trails to your next road trip if you're passing through the area. It's a great place to get out, get some food, and stretch your legs. read more

Well, this is the half-way point to Minneapolis-St. Paul. We took a pit stop and some got breakfast. Really nice bathrooms and huge inside. The outside looks like a LL Bean with all the wooden log cabin look. If you need a quick bite to eat, then you are in luck. If you come too early, then only McD's is open but who needs Coldstones at 8AM in the morning:D read more

Nice Truck Plaza. Clean spacious restrooms. Nice little shopping area. However, this truly is one of the slowest McDonalds restaurants I have ever been to. It wasn't that busy but took over 10 minutes for a simple order. Good thing I didn't have a deadline. read more

They have those nasty blow dryers in their bathrooms to dry your hands with. A U of Conn study finds hot-air dryers suck in fecal matter, bacteria and other spores and when the next person uses the dryer, that same bacteria is sucked back out again onto "clean" hands. This is a super busy stop for truckers and travelers between I35 and I90. We stopped yesterday on our way home from the holiday weekend. I saw several workers not wearing a mask at all or completely incorrectly (around their neck). When I tried to walk in, 2 maintenance guys were blocking both entrance doors making the 6' distancing non existent. Nothing marked on floors to keep people apart and no directional doors to make it easy for ppl coming in to use 1 set of doors and those leaving to use another. I did not feel safe, especially with all the added people because of a holiday weekend. This is a pandemic people, let's do everything we can to stop the spread. read more

Very nice. Very clean. Regular truck food options if you eat at truck stops a lot. The only difference is they have cold stone creamery. A little more of everything a Petro usually has. Would be nice if they had a Verizon store. read more

I loved the truck stops down in Missouri, Tennessee, and Kansas growing up, you could literally live in them. When I moved to Minnesota, I thought I would never see the greatness again....until I walked in Trail's. I love the atmosphere-very rugged and outdoorsy just like Minnesota. It is very busy, very clean-the food is decent in the restaurant. Lots of food choices, every Monster available for sale. Bathrooms might well be cleaner than my own. read more

I purchased the apple orchard bread from the trails. It was moldy. Make sure you check dates on their food. Outdated! Ok, so I called there to let them know. Can not do anything about it. I am 2 hours away. So needless to say. I will not be buying that again. read more
