We tried Salmojero for the first time, it was weird at first, because we're not used to cold soup, but it grew on us, we liked it. Our server described it right, salmojero is like salad in soup form. The Calabacin was delicious, it was veggies with cheese on top of zucchini (I think). The squid ink spaghetti was good, but it seemed dry for me, I prefer my pasta with lots of sauce. It tasted good though, I just wish they spaghetti was all black noodles instead of mixed. I thought the black and white noodles together was not visually appealing.

You can make a reservation online, so I highly advise that because the restaurant is rather small. Somehow I got lucky enough to snag a table right before the lunch rush. We were famished upon arrival and everything on the menu sounded absolutely amazing. Normally not a fan of fusion, but they incorporated modern twists to classic Spanish tapas seamlessly. We ordered a few tapas to share between two people: KING PRAWN CARPACCIO: an absolute must order. The prawns were fresh, thinly sliced and marinaded well. Paired with the sweet soy sauce reduction, it was absolute *chefs kiss. The arugula added a nice refreshing touch to it too! I'm still drooling over this carpaccio til this very day. BRAISED OXTAIL IN PHYLLO PASTRY: was flavorful, tender and moist. Somehow with all the oxtail stuffed in it, the phyllo pastry managed to stay crispy and crunchy. This whole tapa had an amazing texture to it. The oxtail was so flavorful, you didn't even need the aioli that came with it! SQUID INK PASTA: was plentiful as a tapa, but we saw people around us ordering it as a plate. The garlic flavor really penetrated the pasta and we didn't actually need the pesto on the side. But the pesto sauce was nutty, refreshing and spiced up the dish itself. There was a generous serving of mussels, scallops, shrimps and squid shreds; all which tasted very fresh! GRILLED PLUMA IBERICO: was served on a tender piece of pumpkin puree and microgreens. No spain trip is complete without some iberico pork. The pork was tender and well seasoned. The pumpkin puree with the curry oil also complemented each other very well. I believe the curry oil is a bit unconventional to Spanish tapas, but I thought this really elevated the tapa. MANCHEGO: they served 4 slices with dried raisins/apricots and a jam on the side. I love Manchego, so this was non negotiable for me Must order a sangria or tinto verano to pair with all these tapas. The drinks were well made and very refreshing! We enjoyed our meal so much we made plans to come back later that night. If there's any place you should come to in Sevilla, it's here!

* * * I love listening to live jazz. Even better while traveling. So when I spotted this place as I explored the Regina and San Gil areas of Sevilla in a recent trip, I knew I'd want to come back that evening. The visit was nice. I arrived around 8pm and the show started about 15 minutes later. I sat at the bar and ordered a craft beer from their small and well curated list. The friendly bartender explained how things work. There is no cover charge but instead you donate in jars scattered around the place. They ask .50 cents for every interval. I stayed for the whole show and slipped €5 into the jar and that was fine. The guy next to me put in €25. So it's really up to you. The jazz was hot, the sets were substantial, the beer was delicious. There's a limited food menu but I'm lactose intolerant and everything has cheese so I just enjoyed my beer and the music. If I lived in Sevilla I'd be a regular and if I go back to the city I'll make a point of visiting El Gallo Rojo again.

Was drawn to the unique space with colorful outdoor windows installed on the 2nd floor overhang areas. (Check out the pics!) and the open lounge space with an eclectic, bohemian decor. It reminded me of spaces in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. There was only one staff member around, setting up as they had just opened and it was completely empty. Spoke with him and found out this is a joint venture with several of his friends--a concept to create a wine bar that doubles as a co-working/performance/community space, the rooms upstairs being the main coworking areas. Looking around I could see some speakers and guitar stands set up in one corner of the room. They have a few beers on tap, including one they brew themselves, and serve mostly wines and mixed drinks otherwise. No bar food but they have a few desserts, mostly cake and pastries. Tried their house beer and it was ok, it was early so didn't try any other drinks. Found it inspiring that the owners' vision was to create a space to build community and showcase local artists, love the concept!
