Stopped here randomly driving from New Orleans to Tennessee. Saw the name in Apple Maps, made me…read moreclick. Saw the pictures of the food, made us stop there. Am I glad we did! Don't let the old Checkers building throw you off. Stop here. Great portions. Great price. Amazing flavor. Very friendly service. The flautas and the garnachas are huge! And delicious!! If only yall were in New Orleans.

The vibrant neon sign out front promises a wild culinary adventure, but my experience at The Crazy…read moreFlautas was chaotic for all the wrong reasons. As a critic, I deeply appreciate bold concepts and high-energy dining, but a restaurant must still nail the fundamentals. I am leaving a 1-star review today because the kitchen's current execution does a disservice to the staff's incredible hard work. The Atmosphere: High Energy or High Stress? The Concept: A neon-drenched, high-tempo street food party with blaring music. The Reality: The decibel level is so intense that ordering requires shouting at your server. The Seating: The cramped, unpadded metal stools make it impossible to sit comfortably for more than ten minutes. The Food: Over-Fried and Under-SeasonedThe Texture: The signature beef flautas were fried to such an extreme that the tortillas shattered into sharp, dry shards. The Filling: The shredded beef inside was completely dried out, resembling unseasoned pot roast rather than juicy shredded meat. The Toppings: A mountain of cold shredded lettuce and watery sour cream completely waterlogged the dish within minutes. The Service: Energetic but ChaoticThe Staff: The servers are absolute rocks, sprinting across the floor with infectious enthusiasm and kindness. The Delivery: The kitchen tracking system is a mess, resulting in my appetizers arriving after my main dish. The Drinks: My horchata was beautifully presented, but it was so heavily diluted with melted ice that it tasted like sweet water. The Verdict: The team at The Crazy Flautas has the passion and the charisma to run a legendary hotspot. However, the kitchen desperately needs to slow down, calibrate their frying times, and prioritize flavor over volume. I truly hope they find their rhythm, because this concept has the bones to be something special.

3.5 stars overall…read more They were out of half the choices they have so be sure to ask what's available before you set your eyes on something. Now the meats are cooked really well and are flavorful. At the same time, they are drowning in grease and by the time I ate it the grease had seeped through both tortillas. The tacos are 3 bucks a piece, which is reasonable but everything else on the menu was a but steep in my opinion.

I'm always on the lookout for great "authentic" mexican tacos, and the Taco Boy delivers!!! Being…read morein Birmingham I've only tried a few taco food trucks but this one had been the best so far. My favorite taco is the lengua (cow tongue), and his was seasoned to PERFECTION and tender AF!! I was told that all the tacos were $2, but upon my visit, they decided to increase the prices to $2.50. The lengua tacos are usually priced more at any taco taqueria and here it's $3. With this price change at the day I decided to come is why I'm giving them four stars! On this visit, I had the lengua, cabeza, and the campechano tacos all the way, meaning cilantro and onions. I noticed that they add cabbage as well which was different and next time I'll just request strictly cilantro and onions only. Don't forget your red (spicy) and green (mild) salsas. I have noticed that the taco trucks here don't offer the pickled or grilled vegetables on the side to compliment the tacos. This taco truck is located next to a bodega off Morgan Rd next to Advance Mower. Please keep in mind they accept cash and if you must use a credit/debit you have to go in the store and that may be subject to other fees.
