Ambiance- family oriented high volume type Mexican restaurant. Service- no negative feedback to offer. Food- unfortunately, severely lacking. What I ordered was the steak enchiladas. Disappointing to say the least. After waiting 15 plus minutes for the entree, food was cold to the touch. The rice was dry, and the beans were watery and smothered with cheese as to hide the recycling of it. The steak was dry and way overcooked. The steak looks like it was recycled as well. Came here after a long day at Alabama Adventure, me and my family were ready for some eats, and we found this little place to eat at. We sat down and our waiter, who was very sweet and just made the atmosphere wholesome and fun, asked us for our orders. Mediocre at best. Came here for dinner. I wasn't overly impressed by much of anything. Menu was standard. They bring chips when you sit. Not good at spacing people out at all. I ordered the chicken flautas and horchata. My husband ordered their enchiladas. The horchata mug was ginormous. That thing had to be 40 ounces! I had enough left to bring a full to go cup with me when we left, and so I did. The food was pretty bland. We asked for hot sauce and they didn't bring it. They brought mild sauce, so we again asked for super hot sauce. They finally brought the good stuff. Our bill was about $25. I guess you get what you pay for. Great lunch after church. Wife had the stuffed chili peppers, she said was wonderful. I had huevos rancheros and it was the best I have had in the Birmingham area and one of the best we've had north of the border. I've been to this restaurant about 6 times over the years. The last few times, I have noticed that they give you garbage treatment if you ask for carry out. Today was the THIRD time, I got this treatment and this will the last time this restaurant gets my business. When I entered, the two servers at the door were in a conversation. I said, "Hello! I'd like to order carry out." They glanced at me and then immediately turned back to one another and ignored me. I put the menu back and walked out. This is almost the exact behavior from my last carryout order for "batano": a Keto friendly meal of shrimp, chicken, steak, avocado and jalapeños. I love to support small businesses and local ones at that. This one thrives because there are not as many standard Mexican options nearby. I'll drive a bit further for decent customer service vs rude disregard for mediocre food. I'll drive a few more minutes and go to Habaneros for the same fare with better hospitality. read more

The peach & strawberry margaritas were great! The food came out faster than my drink and was excellent. The service was just ok...didn't ask if needed extra plate (sharing) or check back on us much. 5 stars for great food and service. Everyone in my party of 13 said their food was yummy. There's usually at least one person who isn't totally satisfied but not this time. They also have an entire vegetarian section on their menu so that's a big plus for me who's currently vegan. So, I visited some friends and we decided to go and have lunch at this restaurant. My friends had mentioned that the food was great. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and they sat us down at a table. Our server was some what unhappy, she took our drink order and our food order. We were out of chips, salsa, and drink. We had to ask a different server for things we needed while our server was on her phone. In all service was not that great but the food was really good. They have definitely updated their menu in the past 4+ years since I've been here. They now have more variety than your typical quesadillas, burritos, and tacos. Glad to see many Mexican restaurants following this trend. I was impressed with the updated menu but the main thing we were after is chili rellenos with chicken. Do you know how rare it is to find a restaurant that will make it with chicken instead of beef or shrimp? Chicken chili rellenos are his favorite Mexican dish and they're very time consuming to make at home. So glad we can find them here. I can't attest to how the new menu items taste but I'm super curious, so if you try it be sure to review! Salsa is still the bomb diggity! Update: came back just a few weeks later. I got the Burrito Maravilla(can't remember how to spell). It's stuffed with chicken strips and refried beans then topped with verde and cheese sauce. Not a huge burst of flavor but still very good especially served with guac, pico, and sour cream. Also when I asked if they still had the spicy green salsa he said they had something different with the new ownership. He brought me 3 different sauces a milder red sauce-sort of like a chili sauce, a jalapeño salsa-very good briny flavor, and a spicy guacamole-OMG this one's got a kick, less like guacamole and more like a fire filled avocado.
