I visited Taco Bell in Monterey (321 Alvarado St., Monterey, CA 93940; 831-373-8166) on April 9, 2026, at 11:09 a.m. I placed my order (3f0c8d) using a self-ordering kiosk, paid with a card, and waited near the counter for my food. About four customers ordered after me, and they all received their food and left, while my order never appeared on the counter. After everyone else had left, it became clear that my food had not been prepared. I approached the counter and asked about my order. The employee told me that she "made it." Since I had spent my lunch break waiting for food that I never received, I requested a refund to my card. The employee seemed reluctant, stating again that she had made the order but that it might have been "stolen." I asked once more for a refund. The employee appeared unsure how to process it but asked me to insert my card into the card reader and said that if "it did not work", I should come back another day. She returned my receipt, and I left because my lunch break was ending, and I had to be back at work. As of today, July 14, the charge is still on my card, and no refund has been issued. Honestly, I don't give a shit about the $16 I lost, but it's satisfying to write about the business where I will never return :) read more

I am on a new medication that makes me extremely nauseous. On my 15 minute break, I had just enough time to walk over and get a burrito. I realized halfway there I forgot my wallet and only had cash on me. No worries, I've seen people pay with cash at this taco bell before! I wait for a few minutes until a worker says "order at the kiosk" and I tell them that I would be paying cash. she says "it's too busy." I don't understand, so to try and clarify I ask "this location doesn't take cash?" she replies "no we do, but not right now. it's too busy." I tell her I only have cash, no card on me. She doesn't care at all. So after getting refused service, I don't have enough time for a backup food option and have to go back to work sick. I know not everyone knows about people's medical information, but the rules shouldn't magically change depending on if you feel like working or not. read more

Talk about a slow cluster mess. We ordered from the kiosk and picked the pay cash at the counter option. Thinking that once we ordered, they would fulfill the order, call our name, and we would pay at the counter. Not so. Once you hit order from the kiosk, you have to go up and pay, and then they fulfill your order. Otherwise, it gets lost in the queue, which ours did. Once I got that straightened out and got my order, I guess they don't really read what you ask for. There was no sauce, which I had asked for, so I had to go back up and get sauce. Then I had to ask for a spork and salt and pepper. They had no pepper, and they gave me sugar, then finally salt. It wasn't like the place was crowded. There were only three people in the place. The food was good and the place was clean. Before we left, we were going to get a takeout order. So I went through all the steps on the kiosk and waited......and waited, nothing. The manager working at the time was extremely unprofessional. I had ordered my food online in advance because I knew it would be busy. They had started making my food and I waited in the lobby for 10 minutes. I thought they had called my name so I walked up and they told me it would be another 10 minutes. The manager was rude, wouldn't look at me, and offered no explanation. I proceeded to wait but I watched as multiple other groups of people got their food before me, even those who ordered after me. It took 20 minutes to get my order and I was offered no explanation. The manager would not look me in the eyes or talk to me when I was up there. This Taco Bell is undergoing some modernizations, but it is still pretty nice inside. Service was pleasant and speedy. Location is clean overall. We are in the restaurant and the Food was good and well prepared. They have a new pineapple freeze which was very yummy. They were out of double chalupa boxes but they made sure to make notes throughout the location so customers were aware before ordering. Nice touch! read more

The inside of this Taco Bell is a total eyesore. Feels like I am stuck in the 1990s. In terms of food quality don't go here because it's clear that the employees who work here are not putting any effort into what they make. Even if you cannot afford the nice food, I wouldn't recommend you come here. This also includes people who are mentally challenged. I've never in my life experienced such a pitifully slow "fast food" restaurant. Not to mention the app will straight up lie to you. I get alerted 4-5 minutes after ordering that my order is ready and it never is when I arrive. One time I ordered on the app and when I got there the counter said that their fryer wasn't working and they'd have to manually refund me for the fries the app let me order. However after waiting 20 minutes I heard from other customers that they were being told the wait was an hour. But consistently I cannot get an order complete in under 25 minutes. Next time (if) I order again I will just order when I'm 30 minutes from arriving. Lesson learned I guess. Went in for lunch during work. I understand having the kiosks for when things are busy, and crowded. There was no line, yet the employee behind the counter insisted I use the self-order kiosk, which is much more time consuming than just ordering at the counter, as well as a smaller order due to having to page thru the whole kiosk menu(annoying) in a time crunch. The prices keep going up, product is not any better than it was(being generous here), and we don't get the same level of service. This makes no sense unless you're taco bell and blatantly don't care as much about customer service or selling a desirable product as you do profit. It means less overhead costs for taco bell, and a greatly diminished product for the consumer. Doesn't seem like a sustainable business model. A very disappointing experience. Sad to say I'll go elsewhere from now on, I just wish it was taco bell from 10 years ago as opposed to other mexican chain restaurants that rhyme with hipotle, or hell laco. read more
