Waited in the drive thru for 20 minutes. Only 1 car ahead of me. Got home and order was 0% correct. Took it back and still wasn't right. 1st time they forgot the meat on the nacho grande. 2nd time they put meat on but used a hideous liquid cheese sauce, it's always been shredded cheese before and forgot the sauce. Tacos were suppose to be no lettuce, extra cheese, got lettuce and no cheese. I've given this place 3 tries, everyone has been wrong. If I need a taco gringo fix, I'll drive to Springfield. I would rather have the old location back, I'll take my chances with the contamination. I've never seen a dirtier restaurant either, front and back. read more

Even though they have moved to a new location, their meat still gets incredibly greasy to where it should be served with a side of Pepto-Bismol. Their ice machine tastes like it has mold in it, and even though they are supposed to be open till 9 PM when I was in the drive-through tonight at 8:49 they were closing. read more

Drive-thru Mexican food is quite appealing to me, so when my friend and I were leaving Jacksonville and drove past Taco Gringo, I pulled into the drive-thru. My friend ordered small nachos and a cheese quesadilla. She liked her order. I got loaded nachos (I forget what it's called on the menu) and it was good. This used to be a fantastic and affordable place to eat. Not so much now. There's no consistency on how the food is prepared. On one day you might get soft tacos that are put together well and the next it is a saucy, barely wrapped mess. The other problem is that you can clearly state that you don't want specific ingredients on your order, they'll even repeat it back to you, but when you get your food? You guessed it... caked with whatever it you didn't want. This is one reason we no longer go there. And no we never chewed anyone out, I think they just get caught up in the whole 'this is how it is supposed to be' attitude and ignore your request. Probs don't end there with the employees. Few of the employees appear to have passion for what they do, and I can't count the number of times I've seen them work in their street clothes instead of wearing their assigned work attire. It almost looks like the manager went outside and yelled, "Anyone wanna make a few bucks today?" and took in any who stepped forward. So you end up with workers wearing offensive clothing. It doesn't help that, at least several of the times we went there, there were employees playing gangster wrap on a boombox. read more

Food is always delicious but the sizes are so tiny! I bought a "bag of chips" and it was only 1/4 full (10 chips I counted). How come they are stingy with the chips but you can walk in other places and get free chips. read more

I grew up in Jacksonville and every time I come back this is one place I have to stop at. They may not be the cleanest, but the food is delicious and it gives me the best memories. Taco gringo is an institution in the area. The food is good, it has had some changes over the years. The meat isn't as good and the sauces have changed, but you can't beat a sancho deluxe or an order of super nachos with fine crushed ice in there drinks. I also enjoy the enchiladas and the tamales aren't bad either. This is some gut busting food though, eat it hot Or it my take up some rent,as it will stay a while!!! Taco Gringo is my favorite restaurant. Hands down. I'm not kidding. The tacos, sanchos, nachos, and chalupas are all on point. Try one of these (or all of them; you are enterprising and courageous--people like that about you). They offer a few other items like chicken wings and assorted pre made Mexican desserts, but you would be a ridiculous person if you ordered them. Tacos are also 69 cents on Sundays, which is sexy AND delicious. I think there is some sort of soda deal on Sundays too, but you don't care about this. You care about a paper bag filled with a slew of tacos for a few bucks, all the grease accumulating on the bottom of the bag and how good it looks (very), and how soon you can smash all these wonderful babies into your mouth posthaste. The ice in their sodas is crushed. IT IS THE BEST ICE. Get whatever you get with hot sauce. Trust me. Be somebody. There are a few bad things about Taco Gringo, as much as I hate to admit it. They have a few outrageous booths that have these horrific bars under the seats that you have to step over to get to the interior seats of the booth. I do not deserve this type of treatment. However, the same inept booths have been there for at least twenty years so I should just get over it (I won't). Also, most of the staff either looks trashy dirty, or is rude. Not all, but uh, yeah most. ***UPDATE*** Some new guy named "John" works there. He is very professional and has been seen wiping down tables dutifully. Oh John. You're the best. One time my girlfriend was there and she saw a dog behind the counter. That's silly. Dogs can't make tacos. They also aren't currently up to date on sanitation practices and health codes, I'm figuring. Honestly though. Taco Gringo has incredible and inexpensive food. Highly recommended. read more

Good food but the employees need some work. Every time I go there, some part of my order gets messed up and sometimes I just see the employees goofing off and not really caring about the customers. It is just a little upsetting when it happen but the food is good and if you get a good crew of employees that day, it is amazing. read more

After reading the reviews for this place, I was pretty pumped to try it. I was not acknowledged when I stood at the counter and the girl was very rude once she did speak. I thought oh well, the food will be good despite the crappy service. It wasn't. My burrito was cold. The cheese wasn't melted at all. The potato skins were literally just 3 halves of baked potato with some cheese on top. I would not recommend this place to a friend. read more

The food here is great! While not very authentic (the name is Taco Gringo after all) they make very good food that's good quality for the low prices. The restaurant could use an update, it's looked the same since I started going there about 10 years ago, but they keep bringing me back with their quick service and delicious food. Definitely worth going to at least once. The bathroom do look old and need replaced, but the toilet and sink at least appears clean. read more

Food is tasty, but I noticed they were heating my food on a Styrofoam container. I asked them if they could not use a Styrofoam container with my food, I don't need any added chemicals leaching into my food, they said they couldn't do that so I left. I'd give the food five stars but everything else one star - so I met in the middle with an overall rating of three stars. Food is excellent. Tacos are delicious, LOVE the waffle fries & cheese sauce. The atmosphere is nothing to write home about. Booths are VERY tight. Bathroom is DISGUSTING - tiny and dirty. Yuck. Staff is rude, the cashier was SUPER bitchy. It was not busy when we were there and we had never eaten there before; yet, they had no patience for our questions and it was painfully obvious they felt we were inconveniencing them. This place is a Jacksonville landmark. This is not healthy food but it is amazing food. Eat to much of the beef & it will give you a belly ache but it's so good. The nachos supreme, super sancho, criss cross fries with no seasoning salt & cheese sauce, chalupa are some of my favorites. The food is always excellent! Super Nachos, deluxe beef soft tacos are fantastic. The staff though unfortunately is usually rude. Hate to say it. Went there last night and they asked for my order. I asked can I have a moment please. They ignore me. 45 seconds later they say can I help you. I once again nicely asked for a moment. We only went here because of the name.We didn't know what to except with this place but we went anyway.The food was atrocious the meat tasted like it came out of a tube you can buy at Walmart.The "enchilada" was definitely a frozen mess from the dollar store.The next time we are in town we are bypassing this 3rd world restaurant for Taco Bell. read more

Every time I visit Jacksonville I try to find an opportunity to eat here. I have ordered most items on the menu and loved them all. They have a very good hot sauce.(not as hot as it used to be). Something I really like about Taco Gringo is they don't use that disgusting nacho cheese sauce that so many other places use. read more

A few of the staff are very rude and act like they hate waiting on customers. The food is good, but not consistently good. Often times they don't drain their taco meat well and end up serving orange grease laden belly bombs. Mostly it is poor customer service (even the manager) that keeps me from going more often. read more

I grew up in j-ville and eat at this place everytime I come back. Recently my friends told me the place was up for sale (just a prank), I was prepared to put an investment group together to keep this place open.... no worries though, the business traffic is great as the place always has a constant flow of hungry people. After reading the reviews I think ether something has drastically changed here or I ate somewhere else. My first experience was about 6 months back. Really wanted some guacamole and went through drive through. It was terrible. No seasoning or flavor-pretty much smashed avocados and nothing more. I went again this evening through drive through with a much larger order. I have just wasted 25 bucks and ended up ordering a pizza. The nachos are a joke. The ground beef is super greasy and salty. Everything was pretty much soaked in red sauce. It was just bad all the way around. The drive through lady was very rude and cut me off 3 times. When I got to the window and paid, the window was open and I literally watched as the woman making the order pissed and moaned and complained how "over this damn day" she was. Had my card not been swiped and I wasn't in the mood to drive elsewhere I would have pulled off. Bad experience all the way around....and certainly my LAST experience I will have there. read more
