This is a great location and they have really good ice cream. I'm not sure why this place isn't packed all the time. The patio is tastefully decorated with flowers on the tables. I will choose Charlie's over DQ almost always. Charlie's ice cream has a much better taste. There servings are amazing for the price you pay. I think the snack food taste good for what they are but the corn nuggies are the freaking best!! Everyone is so nice that works there as well! I wish they would fix there speaker though its really hard to hear. read more

I love hometown small businesses, especially dessert and ice cream places. This place is nice and cozy and has friendly staff. My daughter had a vanilla/chocolate swirl chocolate dipped cone while I had a hot fudge sundae. Her cone was quite large for a medium but I must admit my fudge sundae was not up to speed. All the fudge was on the bottom and naked the rest of the way up. I would suggest hot fudge from the top down...not the other way around. But, it was still tasty. I'd much rather give my biz to small owners that to the Dairy Queen chain. read more

The customer service was horrible, the man taking our order was rude and had an attitude when I asked rather they had coke or Pepsi products. The hot dog bun was hard and stale, the Pepsi tasted awful. It had been a while since I had been there and after today I won't be going back. Horrible place!! This place is a little hidden gem of Jacksonville, Illinois. I might be a little biased as nostalgia ties into my opinion though, having fond memories of my parents taking me here for an ice cream cone after catching a movie at the Illinois Theatre when I was a child. The walk-up window in particular is charmingly old-fashioned, and the ice cream you receive is both delicious and filling. Seriously, their sizes are impressive - I always forget just how big their medium cones and cups are, oftentimes regretting not ordering a small instead (but am happy either way)! I've never ordered or tried their other menu options, but the ice cream alone is enough to check this place out. It's truly a nice little "mom & pop" location. read more

Honestly, though, I am a great fan of Charlies!! 10 Stars... ! However today"s visit was quite un pleasant... I ordered threw the drive thru like usual and I had asked if there was a Tornado flavor of the week?? I thought she had came back and said no... So I ordered 1 med butterscotch shake 1 Cookie Dough Tornado and 1 Hot dog mustard onion only... had to repeat (no problem) When I got to the window I read there was Red raspberry cheesecake Tornado special so when the girl (Bene) noticed me I told her I wanted to change Tornado to the special?? she said she could not here over the machines so I repeated,long story short I ended up with a Strawberry shortcake I told her I asked for the Red raspberry Tornado she replied smartly.. I asked you twice........ like whatever.. she was all pissy about all the buisness and act like she was over whemled by all the few cars behind me instead of saying pull around we will make it right..
