Cute little place with so much more than tacos! They have a drive through as well as outside and inside seating. Their milkshakes are rich and delicious and their tacos and nachos were exactly as we would make if we were at home! We stopped by on our way back to Grand Mesa from a day in Black Canyon of the Gunnison and Curecanti National Recreation Area. I ordered the grande nacho with chicken, and a kids size chocolate horchata shake. It was delicious! I would have preferred real cheese to the canned nacho cheese they use but that is just a preference, it was just as tasty. Portion was pretty big. The meat was slow cooked to perfection. The drive thru guy was great! He had a treat for my dog and incredibly friendly. I tipped $5.72 on a $19 order. They definitely deserve the reward!! read more

We have driven by the taco hut each time we came up to Hotchkiss, and we finally came in today. It was quite a treat! The breakfast burritos are amazing and we were able to relax and enjoy the Sunday comics with our meal. read more

Stumbled on Taco Hut looking for a post hike takeaway sandwich, on a Tuesday morning. They have a variety of Mexican food including breakfast items (eg breakfast burrito), sandwiches, and ice cream/shakes/sundaes. What stood out here was the service - a very sweet woman helped customize a vegetarian sandwich for me (must add to the menu!) and a standard southwestern chicken sandwich for the boy, and gave us tips about local sites. Everything is made to order so please be patient - it's delicious, fresh and worth the wait! Reasonably priced too. Wish we could have done Mexican and ice cream takeaway - looked so good. Tables and bathrooms were spotless. Drive-thru also available. read more

Not sure what's going on with the other reviews, but we felt like we were imposing - and after the first couple was helped, we were the ONLY ones there! Right away, the person took a phone call bc ??? Was told it was the boss. Again, WTF?? As to the food, the soft taco shells seemed OLD! And, they screwed up the order! (Eg, I specially said NO cheese). Again - we were the only ones there! And, everything was quite sub par. So, why 2 stars and not one? I feel bad. Seemed like someone may have been trying. They had outdoor seating - a plus. But, I strongly suggest trying elsewhere. Good luck! Ps. Stomach has been VERY upset since. The food is very bland. They do not put any taco seasoning in any of their meats if they do it certainly isn't near enough.

So have you ever run into a place that looks good, you're starving, you order, get it and start to wolf it down and realize--this food is great and I should have taken a pic for a review? Well this is your spot. But when you come, take the pic that I could not due to mass distraction. The enchilada plate with green chili was outstanding. I frequent this area often and had yet to make it by this place. I'm glad I stopped by, even if I wasn't that hungry. I ordered their nachos and they did not disappoint! When you think of nachos you think of all the toppings and they did not skip any! The woman at the front counter was very friendly and helpful to us, and even came outside to check on us. We ate here when we were on vacation from AZ and the food was delicious and so cheap!! We had the indian fry bread, breakfast burrito, tacos, cheese roll ups, and milk shakes, and everything was absolutely delicious. I have been there 4 times and have never had their food. Waited in drive thru 3 times and it turned out that their sign said open, but they weren't. Then on the 4th they were open, but I was 3rd car out of 5 and the first car was there forever...we all just sat and sat. Running a business is tough stuff, I have done it myself, but this was over the top. Turn off your open sign when you aren't open and figure things out a little better? read more

Highly recommend if ever in the area! We stopped in for lunch last Thursday on our way to Mesa Verde from Glenwood Springs. I'm finally back after an extended vacation and I immediately headed for the "Taco Hut" to get my long anticipated Mexican food fix. Since it happened to be "Burrito Supreme Thursday", that's what I ordered and I was not disappointed. I was treated to the same fast, friendly service and same great food that I've come to expect here. This is what keeps the other regulars as well as myself coming back to this place often. Don't be fooled by this restaurants greasy-spoon exterior and sign. The interior is modern, tastefully decorated and very clean. And the owners know how to cook. We hit the Taco Hut for lunch on Tamale Monday. Got to go with the specials. The tamale came with an enchilada, plump, whole pintos, fresh tomatoes, and well seasoned rice. Tasty sauces and homemade salsas. An excellent meal. This is very well-prepared Mex-American fair--not greasy, not smothered in flavor-killing sour cream. HIghly recommend the Hut for anyone passing through town, hungry tradesmen (like me) on lunch break, or local business folk. read more

This place is a real gem. Don't be misled by the name Hut or the Drive Thru. Inside it's a sit down restaurant. You order at the counter and they bring your food out very speedily. We have had enchiladas and burritos so far and intend to come once a week until we have tried everything. Their margaritas are decent. Great place for a cheap dinner. Surprisingly good Mexican food. Let's be honest... Colorado and Mexican food isn't something normally goes together. But this place has great food! It's authentic Mexican with a touch of Southwest flavors. Fresh ingredients too! We were very pleased. If I have anything to say for the owners to improve on, it would be that they tend to nickel and dime everything from salsa to soda refills to an extra paper plate. I love to find and support small locally owned restaurants however way too often I find the "personality" of the owner comes through with bad service, dirty bathrooms, unpleasant quirks etc.... Not at the Taco hut! The two ladies that seem to own and run the place have worked really hard to make this the best fun, cute, good food Mexican spot in this part of the state. I eat everything and the wife has many restrictions. The ladies took our order without batting an eye at our requests for modifying this, that, and the other. The greens on the taco salad plate were green - not the usual pale white shredded lettuce. My tamale/enchilada plate was excellent and the chile sauces were great. In addition to liking to eat, I also like a beer or a cocktail sometimes at lunch. This is the only down side to the Taco Hut - no booze or beer. I consoled myself by getting a great root-beer float that the ladies topped off with more root-beer when asked. Highly recommended and I am really glad that in this case the local beats the chain. PS - great to get a little high speed WIFI hit after being without camping for a while. read more

The enchilada sauce and the rice were bland, the beans were beans, and the cheese inside my cold enchilada wasn't melted. But the ghost pepper salsa was super spicy. And the service was great.
