This little gem…read moreoffers fast-casual dining with bright, colorful vibes that immediately make you feel happy. And once you take your first bite, you'll be doing a happy dance. My sister and her friend visited Pica Chica Tacos recently and we happened to be in the area. The young staff was very friendly and helpful. We all decided to order Taco Entrées, which came with two tacos, rice, and beans. We were able to choose from a list and mix or match our tacos. I loved that they offered vegetarian options, so I tried the Cauliflower Taco and the Veggie Taco. My husband and mom tried the Beef Taco, Chicken Taco, and Pork al Pastor. We also ordered Juan-tons, a fun food fusion--roasted corn, poblano peppers, onions, and cheddar all wrapped in a wonton pocket and fried. So delicious! There was a sauce bar with over 30 different sauces (I tried to count them, but lost track). Our meals were packed in to-go containers, but they still had great presentation, making them Instagram-worthy. The bright colors from the red cabbage and pineapple not only looked good but also brought the flavors together. The tacos were generously stuffed. My favorite was the Cauliflower Taco--the cauliflower was perfectly fried and not greasy. I'll definitely be ordering it again. Overall, check out Pica Chica Tacos! While we went for tacos, they offer so much more to try, including burritos, chimichangas, burrito bowls, and desserts.

We did have a special buffalo chicken taco, which was fabulous!! It was our first time at Sayulita since giving up alcohol, and I was definitely missing their margaritas. Man were WE pleasantly surprised!! Outside it doesn't have a standout look. Just a darkly painted house with a decent size parking lot. But once you step inside it actually catches you off guard a little! Modern decor, beautifully tiled floors, bright and fresh! We were seated quickly and everything on the menu said "order me!" I got an unsweetened tea that was brewed just right and fresh. I hate skunky tea! We ordered the birria quesadilla to share, my coworker wasn't familiar. One bite and he was HOOKED. The meat was soo flavorful and tender and the SAUCE! Rich, bursting with flavor. I ordered several of the tacos: the scallop, seared tuna, pork carnitas and the Baja fish. Again, flavortown! Fresh, citrusy, creamy, cooked just right and a hint of heat on all of them. My coworker got the beef bbq burrito. Man that thing was stuffed with a crispy shell. Full of meat, rice and beans. He got the red chile sauce on the side but after the birria he just used that b/c he couldn't get enough of it! I thought this place was phenomenal and I've been telling everybody to go!

I had the Buffalo Cauliflower and Mahi Mahi tacos -- both were legit, but the Mahi stole the show with its bright, fresh flavor that just hit in a beach-town kind of way. We also shared the meatless sopes, which were super generous and totally satisfying. A little messy (in the best way), and I gave them a flavor boost with some of the house salsas -- which, by the way, are on point. I'd love to see a pescatarian version added -- they already carry Mahi, so tossing that on a sope feels like an easy win. Shrimp would be another great coastal fit, and a hearty mushroom option could also round things out for plant-based folks (even if it doesn't match the seaside vibe as much). My friend did a trio of tacos (Carnitas, Chorizo, and Al Pastor) and gave them an enthusiastic thumbs-up. No notes. Just solid, delicious tacos across the board. The staff were awesome -- super welcoming and kind. The vibe is relaxed and unfussy, with just a few outdoor seats and a steady stream of locals swinging by for pickup orders. It's the kind of place you almost don't want to tell people about because it feels like a secret... but also, more people need to know. I live in San Diego part time and have eaten my way through the West, Southwest, and Mexico -- and I'd still go out of my way for Papis.

During our visit, the support staff stepped up effectively and even the bartender helped bring drinks to the tables. We will excuse this less than timely service as the one waitress did a great job and they will undoubtedly get more personnel after they are open longer. We did feel sorry for one couple we observed who had a very long wait, the reason for which was hard to discern. The food was delicious! We had three different enchiladas with rice and pinto beans; the beans were exceptionally tasty - definitely not just out of a can. We also tried the evening's excellent special - grilled steak, chicken, and shrimp with fresh asparagus and zucchini. Portions were generous. We will return in a few weeks by which time they should have ironed out their server needs.

Really no seasoning at all and burrito was basically fully of hard crunchy rice with no flavor. Too bad I wanted to like the place and the interior and service was good but for $20 burrito filled with almost nothing but old crunchy flavorless rice I can't reccomend. Wish the owners would read the reviews because there is potential here but not if the food is bland, overpriced and insulting teaspoon on guac and sour cream to go with my massive flour tortilla filled with nothing but rice. Shoreline could really use a decent Mexican place and the drink menu is good but this missed the mark big time. Wish I could rate 2.5 stars but due to nice bartender and clean inside and drink menu I decided to rate up to a 3. Edit to add: I posted this review as we were leaving- owner came out to confront me about it. The review above is unchanged from what I originally posted. Was very a la Amy's Baking Company. Take that for what it's worth- not all are interested in feedback.

Still a 20 minute wait. They take your phone number & call when table is ready. And the wait was fine. Cotton Hollow perserve is across the street, so a short walk over there and back worked out a perfect way to pass the time. We were seated in the bar area - at a regular table. It was decorated in a fun way - fish artwork, a tv, natural wood. We didn't quite understand the surf board that hung over the bar though? My daughter & I started with a drink - I had mango pina colada, she had a drink with gin, cranberries. Both good. Food - exceeded my expectations. I had the enchilada duo. Chicken & beef. I usually like beef better, however I think the chicken was in a mole sauce - so delicious. Husband had 2 brisket tacos that he loved. Daughter had the rice bowl (with chicken). Decided to split the churros for dessert. Came with: ice cream, Carmel & chocolate sauce. Yes - we will be back. I saw a patio outside. Warmer weather is coming

Before we ate, we learned a little about the restaurant, the inspiration behind the menu, and the flavors in each dish. Fun fact: Ixchel is the Mayan Goddess, which adds even more meaning to the restaurant's name. Now, let's talk about the food! We enjoyed a tasting of several dishes, including tableside guacamole with chips and salsa, tortilla soup, handmade corn tortillas topped with different proteins, pibil (slow-roasted pork), a ceviche-style dish with shrimp and scallops, chicken mole, and sautéed shrimp with sweet potato. Every dish had its own unique flavor, and everything tasted incredibly fresh. My favorite of the night was definitely the handmade corn tortillas with the different proteins; they were so yummy! Of course, there was dessert! For dessert we had coconut flan and lemon cake, and both were the perfect sweet ending to the meal. Even though our dinner was outside, I did get a look inside the restaurant, and the interior is just as beautiful as the patio. I can't wait to come back and try more of the menu!
