Ordered 3 meals today for lunch and they were disgusting, just thrown together, a veggie burrito bowl with just all grilled peppers thrown in a taco bowl, supposed to come with rice, beans, lettuce cheese, etc... No other customers in the restaurant when my friend and I arrived. Then others came after us and got their food before us. When our food came out it was cold and barely edible. I got the 3 tacos. Chicken, pork and veggie. Veggie was the best out of the 3 but it was so cold it was hard to enjoy. The side of guac was almost black in color so it was probably old. There was a sauce bar with over 30 different sauces (I tried to count them, but lost track). Service was horrendous somehow gave me the wrong order made me wait unnecessarily long time. When I told them that my order was incorrectly, took the food directly from me and left me with just guacamole. We had already been waiting 30 minutes. Didn't offer to give me anything to eat with the guacamole. Didn't even have water. Bottled or tap. I've never been to a restaurant that didn't offer water. read more

We have enjoyed Pica Chica over the past few years. It had been a little bit so we decided to order tonight and noticed they were under new management, which left us feeling apprehensive. But we were hungry so we went for it. Let me just say, we were disappointed to say the least. I guess under the new management they - 1. At least halved the size of the included sauces/guacamole 2. Reduced the portion of nachos by a fair amount (they also just plopped the topping in the middle, the old folks used to lovingly spread the toppings) 3. Over crisp the quesadilla so it was separating like a pita 4. Give us pork nachos instead of veggie nachos 5. Not include a side of mexican rice that was ordered The last two resulted in a call to these folks, who were nice, however could not figure out how to refund the nachos and rice, and just said we need to call you back. I lived in Texas for many years and know good Mexican food. I wasn't impressed at all with my tortilla soup. It had no flavor and tasted like it was thrown together when I got there. The vegetables were barely cooked and there was no seasoning. The chairs in this place are very uncomfortable metal chairs. I had to pay for bottled water which should come with a meal. read more

Cute little restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. We came here for dinner on Wednesday night around 7 and sadly they were out of a some ingredients already - queso and ground beef. You order at the counter and then they call your name when your food's ready. I did the taco entree which includes 2 tacos of your choice and I did the shredded beef and then it comes with Mexican rice and black beans but I just got extra rice. I asked for lettuce and tomato instead of the cilantro mix but they forgot to put it on there so I had just beef. The rice was okay, pretty plain though. read more

Very pricey but tasty. I tried the fish tacos and they were very good , I just wished you can get 3 for that price. My husband had the spicy fish tacos and they also tasted very good. My daughter had a quesadilla and it was very small for the price. Expect more of a kid size portion not adult. The flour tacos were good but the star was the pico de gallo . For all these 3 items and 3 Mexican sodas we payed $50. Service was decent and the ambiance is cute. Really nice outdoor patio with games , colorful wall art and a very nice interior. The restaurant was clean, the staff was friendly, and the food was very good with excellent quality. My only issue which is why I gave 4 stars is it is by far the most expensive taco restaurant I've ever experienced and the $18.99 burrito was on the smaller side. Our order: 1x Burritos $18.99 2x Street corn in a cup $12.00 1x Bag of Lightly Salted Tortilla Chips $5.50 1x Taco Ala Carte (1) Grilled Vegetables. $11.25 1x Fish Tacos (2) $18.99 1x Fish Tacos (2) $16.99 Subtotal $83.72 STRIPE $2.51 Tax $6.15 TOTAL $92.39 $92.39 for three people! Impromptu stop as we spied the sign for tacos. A very enthusiastic staff of (too many) greeted us. They had literally only been open for two hours. Hmmmm Ok, here goes. The fresh!!! house made corn tortilla double taco w fried fish, mixed greens- not traditional but good, & cilantro crema was a solid taco. Fresh & tasty. We asked for any HOT ie SPICY salsa or sauce they served and to our disappointment they did not offer anything spicy! Asked for chopped fresh jalapeño. Ultra crunchy house made tortilla chips were excellent. We tried 3 house made salsas. Was not impressed w any of them as they lacked real flavor. New businesses require time to get their footing, I hope this spot succeeds. Open for about three years, I've driven by this location and often wanted to stop. Aren't a lot of great tacos on the East Shoreline north of New Haven (Taco Pacifico is a great choice as well). Pica Chica Tacos was awesome. We arrived a few minutes before their noon opening, but they saw us coming up the walk and immediately open the doos flipped the sign and welcomed us in. You can see from the pictures that they've decorated beautifully. It was incredibly clean and on a very hot day in the summer the AC offered a perfect climate. They have menus which you can look at and then you go up to the service station and order and pay for whatever you'd like, we ordered the Juan-ton and the two taco plate with pork al pastor. The appetizers were wonton lightly pride with a mix of cheeses and beans and we're delicious plenty full and crunchy in the outside. The flavor was excellent. The tacos were definitely the hit of the meal. We had them on corn tortillas. They were incredibly fresh and the flavor of the citrus and the seasonings, along with the fresh shredded Red Cabbage, Chipotle Salsa, Salsa Fresca, Tomatillo Salsa Verde were everything we were hoping for. The fresh diced pineapple along with the pork elevated this wonderful dish. It was also served with refried beans and rice. I'm uncertain if you could've ordered two separate sides or if that came with every order. Among the large cold drink offering were Jarrett's and Foxon Park. This is a truly authentic homemade local establishment not to be missed while we sat there, enjoying our lunch a number of people dropped by for takeout lunches. The takeout containers were hardy well sectioned and good quality. The staff was friendly and checked in on us to make sure we were enjoying the moment. I highly recommend this establishment will be back regularly and hope that if you do the same, you find a new local favorite on your restaurant list. My only recommendation would be if they open a few minutes earlier they might catch that early lunch crowd like ourselves more often. read more

My husband passed by this place when he was working and decided to try it with me. The woman taking our order was very pleasant and answered all of our questions we had. It came out to 40$ for 3 tacos, a burrito, street corn and a drink (my husband paid for the flan and juan-tons) I got the shredded beef, chicken, and pork tacos. The chicken was extremely dry and it needed something extra. The beef had great flavor but I also felt it needed something extra as well. I had the 3 sauces it came with but only liked 2. Honestly they didn't do much for the tacos and I had to get sour cream as well. The pork was the best flavorful, juicy, needed a little more pineapple in my opinion. If there was something like pickled cabbage, I think it would have definitely ramped up the flavors. I was extremely disappointed when I paid 5$ for the street corn only to discover that it was drowned in butter. When I think of street corn I think mayonnaise. And this pregnant lady was not very happy on the flavor profile. Lol My husband liked the burrito and I did too. Good size, but it was authentic. It had rice in it but you couldn't tell at all. The guacamole was super yummy. We ordered the Juan-tons after and really liked it. If you ever had the southwestern egg rolls at chilis, these were pretty similar minus the beans and kick of spice. It was probably our favorite thing that we tried if I'm being honest. The flan was super delicious was well. Perfectly cooked, no curdle of the egg, super vanilla. Very well done. I think we will be back in the future to try some other things on the menu. And if you are ever in the area, I think it would be wise to check this place out for yourself as well. read more

My new go to spot when going north on I95. Spicy fish tacos are delish, the shredded beef nachos are awesome, I like how they just put the cheese and beef on the chips and give you all the other toppings on the side. This way you can make them the way you like them and the chips don't get all soft and soggy. Also had some little puff pillows filled with street corn and other stuff, very good. They have a nice selection of hot sauces to choose from. Food takes a few minutes but definitely worth the wait! read more

We were leaving the beach and was looking for something to it. This place wasn't a far drive at all and pretty close to the Clinton outlets as well. The prices are good and standard for what tacos are going for. I would say the fish tacos and the cauliflower tacos are currently my favorite. I most definitely be back to try some more. Lastly, I am not a dessert person but my family loved the dulce de leche. They tore that up in seconds. I would recommend this place for a delicious bite to eat. I was very excited about this restaurant's opening, and visited 3 times. I've gotten the fish tacos, the chicken burrito, and the chicken quesadilla, and I've tried a bite of each of the other tacos. Unfortunately the food is all around lacking a bit of a punch. Everything tastes fairly bland and takes a while to come out. The first two visits my food took 20-30 minutes to come out, and each time 3 orders were called out before mine, meaning each order was taking about 7 minutes to prepare, one at a time. This last time, there was 1 order called before ours and we received our food in about 12-15 minutes. They now have a chalkboard that shows the estimated current wait time (this last visit, the ETA was 15-20 minutes). The restaurant is always busy and has a nice, vivacious atmosphere. The employees are friendly and seem to enjoy working there. read more

Went in and ordered some food for home, I wasn't initially impressed. The girl taking my order was preoccupied and didn't pay attention to my order and had to give it to her 3 times. I ordered the two specials, the crispy spring tacos and the Mexican street corn in a cup. I also ordered 3tacos 1shredded beef and 2 al pastor, and a chimichanga. When I came back to pick up the food it was ready and then I was on my way home. I started with the Mexican street corn in a cup while very delicious it was very greasy, it was like a corn soup. I wouldn't recommend. I then tried the chimichanga, it had very flavorful shredded beef and a good amount of cheese. I'd go back just for that. The crispy shrimp tacos were generously filled with fried shrimp, fresh pico, and some sort of delicious sauce, you can't go wrong with these. The tacos the reason I stopped, the shredded beef was so flavorful and tender I'll be dreaming of these. The al pastor which is normally my favorite filling was good, very flavorful but I think the beef is better. read more

So PC went 0 for 5 with our family. We all agreed the food was ok and certainly not as crave-able as you might think. If you have a void to fill, this will do the trick. "Juan Tons" were interesting and not especially exciting. The Burrito description might read, " choice of beef or chicken, refried beans, Mexican rice, refried beans, cheddar/jack cheese, refried beans, lettuce, refried beans...". You get the point. Salsa Fresca was more pulpy than OJ and with less pop. Other dishes were equally equally so-so. As an aside, we ordered nachos and they were "out" and service was sloooowwww. There is exactly 0 good Mexican food on the shoreline (Cuckoo's Nest is just a hair too far away if you need a taco and need it ASAP), so Pica Chica is heavenly. The kids working the counter are adorably polite despite the onslaught of sunburned vacationers. Pro: the food is really good. I had a chicken burrito, and since I have baby mouth, I'm thrilled that the salsa I chose (honey something?) was mild, but it was flavorful and filling and everything a burrito shoud be. Con: the burrito itself was barely warm. Now, this is less of a con for me then for most people, probably because I like room-temp food, but a scootch warmer wouldn't have been remiss. I get the feeling that they should commit to being entirely takeout/delivery--the restaurant itself is cramped and people picking up their takeout are butts in your food which isn't ideal. Also, the disposable cutlery they offer isn't hearty enough to cut anything easily, and being entirely take out would solve the problem (unless you're not bringing the food home to eat, but I can't solve everything). There's outdoor seating but it was monstrously hot when I went and a huge rainstorm blew through, so sitting outside wasn't possible. In any event, the place is great and I look forward to many, many tacos (flautas, enchiladas) in the immediate future. Next time, I'll call ahead and bring it home with me. read more

Just ate the taco combo there. I ordered the ground beef tacos with rice and beans. Bottom line is YUCK. The entire meal was cold. The ground beef was not seasoned, very dry, large chunks that were difficult to chew. The toppings on the rubber meat were red cabbage and onions. There was a spoonful of rice and beans. Cold. Actually cold not even room temp. I took a bite of the taco, which was two soft corn tortillas around the meat, and actually couldn't eat it. My husband got a burrito which was filled with nasty, scrap pieces of dark meat chicken with the sinew still on. He had to spit out some pieces that he couldn't chew. Queso here is amazing. Perfect spot for a nice quick and not expensive lunch during a busy work day. Love this place !
