This 2 places we went after Tijuana Toy Drive event. The fast food place was little but cozy. The taco was good with bottled coke. Our friends went to the other restaurant . So after we ate in another branch we joined our friends in the restaurant. The place was big, nice cooking counter. Good for big group . I saw vegan taco which I found very interesting. Tacos Los Amigos has 2 locations in Tecate. The smaller location, closest to the border, was tried once, but didn't really care for food, and the location is too small/cramped/unattractive/uncomfortable - never went back. On the other hand, the larger location, which is much more spacious and appealing, which is why we keep going back, serves better/tastier food. However, their meat could be a bit more tender and they definitely need a better salsa. They only have one salsa that is served w/condiments on the table and it's just...ehhh. Edible but just...ehh. Just a couple of steps from the US-Tecate border is this delicious taco restaurant located on the corner of their main street. The place is not that big but it has a couple of benches that can accommodate a family of 5 or 6. You simply walk in, order at the kitchen and sit down anywhere you like. The kitchen is very visible from inside and outside the restaurant. You can see all the cooks chopping, prepping and cooking all the made to order tacos right before you. My BF and I ordered some carne asada tacos and shared a huge carne asada quesadilla. The waiters bring you your tacos and a couple of dishes of pickled onions,jalapenos, another dish of radishes and hot salsa. Be careful with the salsa it has a strong kick! We also ordered their Tamarindo drink which was very refreshing. After you are done with your meal you ask the waiter for the check but they just verbally tell you the bill. The prices are a little high for the area at around $4.25 and parking is very difficult, but you can't beat quality of the burrito. I took my niece down to Tecate for an exotic, International adventure...we have already done Monaco, Nice, Rome and Milan, so we thought it might be nice to mix things up. Parked the car on the US side, walked right down the street to the little park and walked around DT Tecate to size up some of the local Taquerias. We got a good vibe from Los Amigo and they also had open, clean restrooms. Got a great seat right on the street and in spite of nobody working there speaking english and our combined high school spanish skills, we managed to order some tacos, a burrito and a couple of drinks. I was surprised at the warning labels from the "Secretary of Health" on the bottle of coke, but it was all good. The food was plentiful, great quality and most importantly, great tasting. Served with all the yummy goodies expected for "street tacos" including radishes, jalapenos and fiery red salsa. The bill came to just under $10 for a two person feast. I love the border towns: the people are very friendly, there is no feeling of 'sketchiness' and the general atmosphere adds to the fun. I would highly recommend making the trip if you are in SD just to spice things up a bit, help out our friendly neighbors to the South and get a few instagram moments. Cinco Estrellas! read more

Went with a friend to los amigos and was really surprised at how great everything was. I had tacos pastor. They were really yummy....The restaurant is open, spacious and it seemed a popular family spot. Ive only been there once ...on a friday night but the service was great....food was great.....price was good. Next time im in town ill try it again. read more

This places serves, hands down, the most delicious tacos I have had in my life. This is the kind of delicious that you can do when a kitchen focuses on serving one simple thing and perfecting it. The thing in question here are huge quesadillas made of delicious high quality grilled beef strips, served in wheat or corn tortillas with excellent guacamole, manchego cheese, pickled onions, and salsa. One of these giant quesadillas, enjoyed with a cold glass-bottle Mexican coke, was enough to fill my hungry stomach although my tastebuds were screaming for more.
