This was a brilliant concoction of taco meat, briskett,brisket, red onions, and sour cream. And if you like a bit of heat, it also comes with jalepenos. All of it is a riff on loaded fries except tator tots are used instead. The portion size was quite nice, the workers were very friendly, and the dish arrived quickly despite the steady line of people placing orders. I wanted to let the line die down a bit since I had my kids running around all over. Lucky for me, it eventually did. After a very short wait, I was lucky to snag the last serving of the Totsy Gyro. A friend had suggested it. Many of the other menu items had already sold out. It was delicious!!! The gyro meat was very tender. We got back to the car and it smelled so good we just dug in. I had tacos with carne asada, my wife had a quesadilla. Both were really rich. The meat on mine was cooked perfectly. It had a nice simple pico, and these sauteed onions that were amazing. They had the sort of tortillas that you cannot buy, you can only make by hand. Beware the roasted jalapenos. It was delicious, but too hot for me. My wife loved it. The quesadilla had a nice crunch, and went wonderfully with the green salsa. Oh, an aside, I generally am not a fan of salsa verde. I went through most of mine with my tacos. It's a great place, right on the corner of Merle Hay & Hickman in front of the CVS so it's easy to get to. My boyfriend bought the 14-hour braised steak (rich peppercorn reduction & balsamic infused caramelized onions). We both wanted to try it so we split it in half and the half portion was plenty filling for each of us AND it was absolutely delicious! When I found out it was a local brand I had to go to Hyvee to try the other flavors. So far the other flavor I've tried is the Chicken Sun dried & cherry tomatoes in a basil béchamel. It was so good! I started with a half portion but it was so good I ate the other in the same sitting. That was a mistake on my part because I was too full eating the whole thing! The pie may seem small but it is plenty filling for two meals. The nutrition facts on the back are based on a half serving and at half size the caloric intake is over 400 calories. But it's to be expected because these things are so good! I can't wait to try the other different flavors I bought of PIE MATES from Hyvee.
