Tastes like the milk in the bowl after you have Cinnamon Toast Crunch It's a bit of a confusing system to order but I think it will go more smoothly next time. My sister who lives in Calgary also makes use of their loyalty program which seems to pay off really well. Would definitely check it out before ordering. There was freshly made salsa and shrimp ceviche, which I had to try, a small container of the ceviche cost $5. They also have mole sauce, guacamole and cheese, most "deli" items cost around $10 for a medium, $5 for small. It seemed that they offer lunch here, but there was only black bean soup on the chalk board. I asked the woman working if the ceviche was made that day and she said yes. The interac wasn't working, fortunately I had some cash to pay for my ceviche. They even offer cooking classes here for $55 per person! My ceviche turned out to be very good. This store is primarily Mexican, the decor was cool and if you need a tortilla press or pinata this place is for you! The owner is SO nice and if you are nice to her, maybe you will get a complimentary taste of her guacamole! They are set up to have lunch daily, Saturdays being very busy we were told. There are a few seats at the window inside or you can take your food to go. They cook in the back and the owner advised that she used only the freshest of ingredients. You will not find fresh plantains for sale as she does not want little fruit flies in her shop. Good call but we were actually looking to buy plantains. Some Venezuelan products were found prepped in the fridge (Arepas and Tequenos) as well as Chilean Empanadas. You take them home and just fry them/bake them. It is not the biggest Latin market I have seen in Calgary but there are a few shelves lined with jars and cans, tortilla chips, sodas, rice. Prices were on par with the rest of Calgary, lots of imported goodies! We did buy a bag full of stuff including Mexican Oregano which is supposed to be the bomb and once you use it you will never go back to anything else comparable! One wall had a nice assortment of dried chiles and other cool spices, right up my alley. The shop was clean and appeared to be very well organized. The owner was interesting and seemed to know her stuff as a self professed foodie. We will be back as often as we can!

Our usual restaurant was closed and after some investigation, I decided to give Mestizo a try. We were going to use DoorDash but had to call the restaurant to confirm they could accommodate my wife's gluten allergy. It turns out Mestizo's menu is 100% gluten free, no cross contamination to worry about. I found out Mestizo will also deliver independently, so more of my money goes to the restaurant. They made it easy to place and pay for my order, and our food arrived in short order. We have a new regular now! We ordered the al pastor tacos with guacamole and chips, and everything was delicious. The tacos reminded us of the tacos from our favourite resort in Puerto Vallarta -- authentic and fresh, and the guacamole was top notch. We will be ordering from Mestizo from now on for our weekend taco days.

The chicken tinga in particular was the winner. In addition, the endless salsa options blew my mind. I sampled four and all were flavourful, and yet so different. The mango coconut milk salsa was a unique winner for me, so definitely give them all a try. Lastly, service. Can't be beat! The lady who helped me (both on the phone and in person) was great at explaining options and the family meal. She also offered lots of samples, and was extremely kind. This place is a definite repeat!!
