My family and I hired Mona's company to handle an estate sale after our mother passed away. We regret not doing more research beforehand, so I strongly encourage anyone considering this company to carefully read reviews and understand exactly what you're agreeing to. We were realistic about the possibility that the sale might not generate significant proceeds. In the end, the estate sale only brought us about $1,000 -- disappointing but not unexpected. What was unexpected and unacceptable was what happened next. Our understanding was that items suitable for donation would be removed first, with only the remainder treated as junk. Instead, the individual who arrived for the cleanout showed up with a very small van, said he was in a rush to get home for a religious holiday, and left with very limited time and capacity to sort items properly. As a result, many usable, high-quality items -- boxed china, unopened batteries, bicycles, baseball bats, books, and more -- appear to have been discarded as "junk" rather than donated. On top of that, the cost for "junk" removal was staggering: $4,000. This completely blindsided us and turned what should have been a modest estate sale into a loss. When we asked Mona about the cleanout cost, we told her we had $1,100 from the sale and specifically asked if the cleanout would be more than that. She replied, "It might be." At no point did she disclose that the cost could be FOUR TIMES that amount. To make matters worse, Mona's team never provided an invoice or written quote before the cleanout. The only figure we were given was the vague statement that it "might be" more than $1,100. In short, our experience with this company was costly, poorly communicated, and deeply disappointing. Extremely terrible tag sale management by this company. This is not the first time we went to an estate sale run by this company and we had the same experience both times. The employees running it were absolutely frightening and rude. They literally screamed at people entering the tag sale and raised their voice at people just trying to enjoy their weekend and do some shopping. There is a way to run a tag sale without raising your voice or giving attitude. Many people walked out and left the things they were going to buy simply because of how they were treated. Also, I see other reviews saying the prices are ridiculous and they're absolutely right. The employees of this company did set prices for the "small" items and they're charging more than Marshall's for used stuff. When people put stuff back the employees literally embarrassed them in front of everyone and tried to shame them for not being able to afford these prices. It's best if you know or have an idea of what things have been SOLD for on eBay or local markets. When going into a sale make sure you can look up items you are interested on eBay. It's been years since I went to a Mona sale and I realized why a few weeks ago. Her pricing is full retail. staff was extremely nice and friendly, particularly the set up crew. They made everything look to enticing. The only issue is that they insisted that they will determine how many days to hold the sale and it was determined that we only needed one day, which wasn't enough time to sell any other than the things that her immediate contacts were interested in. They are supposed to be the experts but a tag sale for the contents of a large house that has been lived in for 50 years should have been more than the one day that they offered as the experts. read more

Completely unprofessional and disorganized. When asked a question regarding the working condition of an item she's selling, Mona replied with a nasty comment rather than a useful answer. If you don't know your merchandise, consider hiring knowledgeable people to help you. I attend sales all over Long Island most weekends and avoided sales by Mona after my first experience years ago but went to one lately, against my better judgment, because of an item My son wanted-Never again-there are plenty of professional people in this business who know how to run a sale and how to provide excellent customer service for the client and the consumer. AWFUL. They would put items on their website for sale but when we got to the location, it had a huge NFS (not for sale) sign. This has happened to us TWICE. Went to an estate sale by Mona in selden. She wouldn't allow more than 4 people at a time inside. She was very obnoxious and over priced. Therefore, left after waiting 15 minutes to get in and didn't even look at all the items. Good luck to the people who hired her!!! read more

Mona helped me sell and empty out a house full of possessions of a relative who had passed away. I wanted to get the best price possible on what could be sold, but also empty out the house with as little as possible ending up in the landfill. Mona set up the sale, advertised the items online, used her sales network to get good prices on a range of items, and completed the sale quickly. She then had a charity come in and truck away what they could use, and emptied out the house until it was broom clean. I recommend her and her team most highly. read more

Mona lied to me for the Computer I bought from her she said it's 2017 year but actually it came out to be 2013 model and Keyboard and Mouse was not even working. Computer I had to take it to Apple to restore. She went in my phone and transferred herself $500 via Zelle. She said she will show me how to do this since I have never done it before. She entered all her information onto my bank app and sent $500 to her email account. Be aware she is fraudulent lady. Basically, she scammed me for defective and older model by saying it's all good and 2017 newer touch screen computer. read more

Contacted Mona 2 months in advance and was very excited to have her help me have a tag sale because I'm selling my house after 25 years. Her advise was to wait until I signed a contract of selling my house. When the time came she told me I didn't have enough merchandise and it wasn't worth her time. Well thanks for wasting my time. The WORST of the "professional" tag sale companies! Mona herself HAS to price everything herself, so you have to wait just to find out what crazy price she's putting on something, and then you get yelled at if you make a counter-offer. I went to one of her sales where it was supposed to be "complete contents" as the homeowner was moving down south into a condo. I asked the woman at the checkout how much a 15+ year-old piece of lawn equipment out in the driveway was. She yells to Mona, and Mona in turn yells to the homeowner (who frankly shouldn't even be there!) how much he paid for the item when he bought it way back when. "Oh, that was over $800 new!" says the homeowner. Mona says "$325!". I say nothing, and simply turn away. Cashier barks "WELL, MAKE AN OFFER!" to which I say "We're not even in the same ballpark. That thing is over 15 years old, I don't know if it works, and you can't get parts for it anymore." Mona, also a professional small engine mechanic (who couldn't put a price on it 30 seconds ago without getting the homeowner involved) says "Oh, you can still get parts for that!" I am an older woman, 59, who had to move from a four bedroom house to a one bedroom apartment. I was totally overwhelmed. Mona and her team ran an amazing tag sale, provided me with a person who took the furniture/items that wouldn't sell, and donated them. Lastly, a clean up crew came over and cleaned out the garbage. I can not say enough wonderful things about Mona and her staff. They made an overwhelming situation, the easiest experience I have ever had to endure!!! read more

I am a tag sale addict and enjoy going almost every weekend. I do not do this for professional reasons but for my own pleasure. I have gone to sales from almost every local Long Island firm including Tag Sales by Mona. Mona is by far the lowest on the list. The staff is rude and they are unwilling to negotiate. There is an attitude when you try and negotiate for a lower price. As a frequent tag sale attendee, I eavesdrop on a lot of conversations waiting in line. Most recently, I was attending a sale in Woodbury where I heard several people rating different sales firms. Mona was the only outfit that they did not like. One of the persons on line who buys from tag sales as a part time profession stated that he no longer attends Mona's sales. I can appreciate that there are some real characters out there attending these sales. This does not excuse the attitude and treatment by the entire staff of Mona's Tag Sales. I make it a habit to never attend her sales. Please join me in boycotting Mona's Tag Sales. The people running the sales are generally unfriendly, bordering on rude. The asking prices are high and there is no room for bargaining, which is typical for yard sales. We visited their sale in Syosset this morning and found the man working there to be particularly confrontational over a $3 item. This was the most aweful estate sale I ever attended! Showing favoritism to the first 5 people with tickets. Letting in only 5 people in a fairly large home, and letting them take their time. There were many people on line who left in disgust. I called, messaged and emailed Mona about several items in a very high end sale asking prices and dimensions, as I live over 2 hours away from the sale point, I attempted to contact her starting 1 week prior to her advertised sale. At first, I did not receive a reply until I called. I then sent an email at her request detailing the items I was interested in. She told me that she had not priced or measured the items. Mona asked that I call the night before the sale. I did so and she told me to call the morning of the sale. Per her request, I called that AM, I was then told she was too busy to give me any info, no prices, no measurements and then she hung up on me. If you are looking for a successful outcome to your sale, I would choose a company more interested in providing detail and better customer service to possible buyers. read more

Mona helped me so much. I didn't know what to do with all my things when we were downsizing. I had some great pieces that Mona sold right away. Her network of people was very impressive. From piano guys. Art guys. Furniture guys... Everything! She'd make a call and things were done! I also had a lot of nick nacks that I thought would end up in the trash. I can't believe how much of it sold! I paid for their clean out service after and they left the house ready for my closing sale. i was at a sale of hers yesterday and had commented to some others on the line that people hosting a nearby sale "are not nice". one of mona's staff heard me and turned to me with a rude tone, asking "what did you say?" (thinking i was talking about them). the people on the line told her i was not talking about them but the idea that she would challenge me that way put me off. I run a business. if someone says that i am not a nice person, it is my problem, not theirs. the woman should not have turned back to me when she thought i was commenting about them, she should have gone to her boss and said "this is what they think about us. we might have a problem" and she should have thanked me. all because of that though, i now think they are not nice people. and if she had ignored me, even if she thought i was talking about them, i would not be writing this now. i just read some of the reviews here and had to come on here again and add this edit. first, mona is not a scam artist. this is the industry. Crystal does not sell and never will sell, it is not worth anything. those of us who go to these sales know that. that does not mean i have not bought a unique piece of crystal for my house, i have a nice baccarat decanter i paid $10 for (if it had been 20 i would have passed on it) but the truth is, there is so much of it out there and every time some old lady dies, 48 pieces of it come on the market. you cannot give it away; it does not matter that your grandparents paid a lot for it when your parents got married, it does not matter if it is Waterford or Lenox; unless someone is looking for one piece to replace in a set that was given to them and they actually like this stuff, it is worthless. i have bought good crystal glasses at the end of these sales for pennies and we use them as daily drinking glasses and when they break i go buy more and use them until they break. i get this stuff for less than i can buy cheap glasses at walmart and i am not joking. for those of you considering using one of these services. take it from me. in the 1980's when i was in my 20's, i would drive long island going to yard sales and i would find great deals. the seller sold their stuff and i got a deal. here is what changed, the seller hires a firm, they still sell their stuff and net the same amount of money or less because they pay a commission to the sales company and i pay more. if people would host these sales themselves and possibly sell items for less than these companies do, it would be a win-win for us both. might you make a mistake and sell a snap on wrench for $2.00 less than you should have? you might. but you will not make that mistake with the gold and diamonds because you will take that to an appraiser. are you going to get ebay prices? no, because your sale is not ebay and people buying things on ebay are looking for something specific and the chances of them being at your sale and finding it are nil; you are selling to dealers who are buying things to resell; those dealers are middle men; that is the business. cut one of the middle man (woman) out and you may make more money and someone like me may get a better deal. Can you do this yourself? do you want ebay prices? well, do your research, open an ebay account, take pictures and sell. it sounds easy but it is a lot of work and it make take months or years of full time work to clear a house and what do you do with the big stuff? pallet it and have it trucked someplace? i have loaded heavy items and shipped them and it is not easy. short of doing that, you are left dealing with people who either want deals (that is how they make money, by getting deals) or paying a commission to someone like mona who brings people who can negotiate the price up to some degree and they do a lot of leg work and also, people steal at these things and she had staff who will not let that happen. in the end, the people buying your stuff are not buying it for their house, they are buying it to resell. if the buyers cannot make money or the stuff you have is garbage, you will be left with a lot of garbage. just because something is old does not mean it is worth money. and crystal? take it to the thrift shop and take a tax write off. you would be better off. or break it all into little pieces and put it in a clear glass vase on the window sill so the light can reflect through it and make nice colors. Again, mona is not a scam artist. i am not a friend of hers and if she saw me at one of her sales she would barely know who i am; so i have no interest in defending her here. she is not doing anything wrong in the way she operates her business; it is the industry. i came on here because i did not like the tone of her little blond female employee, the one with the glasses working the door on appeal st in V.S., if you are reading this mona you may wish to speak to your staff about their attitude. read more

Mona and her team delivered exactly what they promised. We just used them to run a sale clearing out the contents of my mother's house which over 50 years of accumulated contents. They came in advance and set everything up and had it priced appropriately. They generated plenty of traffic on the day of the sale. They sold almost all of the furniture, all of the silver, China, and crystal at very fair prices. Total sales for the day exceeded expectation. The next day, as promised they brought in a charity to select from the remainder and had her clean out crew take care of the rest. We were very pleased with the results. Our setae sale was very well run and even a little fun - as much as it is possible to have fun when your seeing your family history go out the door ;( Tracy, Lena, Rudy and Nick were a fantastic team, and did a great job of getting our stuff out to people who will use it (or sell it). They have regular customers, so that some amount of sales are almost guaranteed, which is good for us and good for them. Mona is a scam artist. She didn't sell things like our kitchen aid mixer, refrigerator or nice crystal. She also started with over pricing items and then when things weren't selling she lowered prices and sold to friends. She then claimed to sell a TV to someone with flatware but really the TV went into her assistants car. When the furniture wasn't selling she called a furniture dealer she knew and sold the furniture in a 3 story house for under $400. DO NOT USE HER for your estate or tag sale. I just completed a successful tag sale with Mona and her crew . They were wonderful and flexible and hard working .People considering a tag sale have to understand you must price to sell and you are not receiving the full value you paid for your possessions. If you can be comfortable with that concept Mona has a good team and she gets things done. The clean out service we was especially helpful to me. WOW.... Well I had Mona come to my house in roslyn, and my mothers house in albertson. After she sold everything in my house me and my wife were so happy with her and her crew, when my mother passed I had her sell everything in the estate. My mother was an antique dealer for 55 years. Everyone that came in to my mothers house to buy the antiques knew and loved Mona! When Mona and her crew came in they were supportive, organized, efficient and most of all they made a hard situation ALOT easier for all paties involved. After the sale was over they cleaned out the house and left it clean for the closing.. I would recommend Mona to anybody that was looking to have a tag sale!!!!! read more

I have to clear out a long island estate and had already tried dealing with another similar service. That service made a sales date without consulting me and bullied and rushed me pr not caring for my time and what I had to do. He also asked for my house key so he can have access while I am not there. My answer was no, and when he refused to tell me how much he is pricing my 100 yr old valuable antiques I ended it. I called Mona's tag sales and a woman told me they charge to clean out and organize your stuff take a hefty commission for what they sell and I would pay for cleaning out what is left. I came to realize there are many estate sales people who have no qualifications for what anything is worth and they are poking around grandmas's pocketbooks clothing and possessions which may contain lots of hidden money. Many people don;t want to deal with cleaning and sorting their new found inheritance but give their house key to strangers and selling stuff for almost nothing. I realized after all Mona's expenses I would have no profit but anger like some of her disgruntled customers who were misled. Self proclaimed estate sales usually have no credentials for what anything is worth and one should clean out and organize these things and not allow strangers to do this. Give time to plan properly. I go to many of the high end tag sales on the North Shore, and the ones run by this company are not nearly as good as the others. For one, there are never any prices on anything, which is very annoying since you have to track someone down to get a price, and clearly different people are given different pricing. Negotiating off a stated price is one thing, but how can you shop when nothing is priced? Also it is never well organized, and I see many others frustrated and leaving empty handed. read more

I only created a yelp account because I am very disturbed by the rudeness of an employee in this company. I just started going to tag sales this summer because I thought it might be fun. The woman who decides the prices is nasty and disrespectful to the patrons. Their prices are random and the woman makes them up as she goes along. If you try to bargain with her (after all...it IS a tag sale), she verbally attacks you. I have been to Tag sales by other companies and the staff at those sales were respectful and nice....not like Tag Sales by Mona.
