Indianapolis has several really cool venues for live music (and a few crap ones). I have a soft…read moreplace in my heart for Tufty Clough's Radio Radio, a Fountain Square live music spot since 2001 and absolutely one of my favorite places to hear live music in Indy. Radio Radio is a 21 and over, general admission concert venue that offers table and lounge seating on a first-come/first-serve basis with the rest being standing room only (or sitting in my case, eh?). They offer full bar service and have specialty craft cocktails at select shows. Radio Radio is only open during shows with doors opening an hour before the first act is scheduled to play. It's a smoke-free facility, though it's my understanding you can smoke out back. Radio Radio has a really killer vibe with a weaving together of style, substance, retro, and probably a few other things. I don't get to Radio Radio nearly enough, but every time I go I'm like "Man, I need to come here more often." There are free parking lots in various locations around Fountain Square along with street parking in spots. Curb cuts are plentiful in Fountain Square, though it is an older part of the city so there are occasional sidewalk cracks. The front entrance is perfectly accessible and the venue itself is fairly solid, though the "Standing Room Only" shows can be a challenge. My understanding is they'll try to work with you with advance notice, though I have to be honest and say I've never had any difficulties as without exception I've found Radio Radio crowds to be respectful of wheelchair users when they show up. I've always been able to see, though I do typically arrive early just to make sure. Radio Radio's sound system was updated a few years ago and the sound is extremely awesome now. Acts range from local bands to up-and-coming regional and national acts or bands with more of a cult following. Concert capacity is right around 250. There's also this incredibly beautiful winding bar. Employees are friendly and helpful, drink prices are fair (especially for music venues), solid craft beer options, and I just love this entire vibe. It is worth noting that Radio Radio does not do food. If you don't know David "Tufty" Clough, he was the longtime bassist for Toxic Reasons and also for Zero Boys. He was also one of my first artist interviews when I was in college (so, yes. I'm a longtime fan). He also used to own Broad Ripple's Future Shock. This is an awesome venue and one of the better mid-sized options here in Indy. If you've never seen a show, I highly recommend it.

I paid the $8 to upgrade the mac to lobster mac...so delicious & so worth it (the upgrade was so unnecessary but so necessary, iykyk!). I also love that they allow you to mix & match on the sliders (filet, fried shrimp, or wagyu beef with Brie). I went with 1 filet and 1 wagyu beef, which was also perfect! Would love to try the fried shrimp at some point. The accompanying aiolis perfectly complemented the sliders! I completed my meal with a lemon drop martini. Service was friendly & attentive. Will definitely keep this spot in mind the next time I return to Indy & would highly recommend to others. In fact, I found it superior to my experience @ Harry & Izzy's--much more my vibe!

The period atmosphere and ambience is absolutely intoxicating. This is a perfect starting place for pre-dinner cocktails, leading up to a fine dining experience at Saint Elmo's Steakhouse. The service was superb, friendly with plenty of recommendations on what to try. This venue gets my highest recommendation, and I very much look forward to a return visit, and hopefully to introduce some of my closest friends to this incredible experience.

I went there late at night and by looking at the outside there was nothing that really stood out to me, BUT as soon as I stepped in it was a WHOLE vibe! Their tiki bar experience from top to bottom was decked out in tiki figures and every tropical decor you can imagine, it definitely felt like I was walking into a Hawaiian resort. The drinks were so fancy and they came in a fancy glass, tiki mug, or coconut shaped mug which I loved! I ordered the Tambaran Firedancer and I'm so glad I did, it came with a whole fire show and it tasted great. It had the right combination of alcohol and other juices. I also ordered the coconut cream pie and it was good. EDIT: My experience was so great that I came here again the next day and had an even better experience (didn't think they would too off the first one lol) The staff were so friendly and welcoming to me, they really made the night unforgettable! Second night I ordered the Corsair of Umbar and the basket of fries. The fries were amazing and definitely made my list of top five favorite fries!! The drink was good, but I wasn't a fan of the Fernet. Finding a parking space was easy since they have a parking lot, but the parking lot is pretty small.

My party ordered a bunch of food, all of it pretty mid, including a cuban sandwich sans pickles. We were told the pickles could not be removed as this would, and I quote, "ruin the integrity of the sandwich". It's just a Cuban, my guy. We really got that excuse because the sandwich was clearly premade many MANY hours (possibly the day) before and to remove the pickles would not do anything to remove the pickle flavor which at that point had seeped into the sandwich. This may be Indy but not everyone is a gringo with no knowledge of spanish food and/or the fear to question such a bonkers statement. You're also not Julian Slowik, and asking to not have what is essentially a condiment on a sandwich should not be a issue unless you've got an (unwarranted) inflated ego, or, as I said, the sandwich was premade so long ago that removing the pickles would not matter re: pickle flavor. The effing gall. Strange Bird in Irvington has fantastic ramen and wonderful tiki drinks, fyi.

ONE OF MY NEW FAVORITES FOR AMERICAN FOOD NEAR MASS AVE…read more Union 50 came in clutch when my friends and I were looking for a last minute dinner reservation. Called at 6 and got a reservation for 8, for 5 of us on a Saturday night. This is kind of an anomaly for any restaurants off Mass Ave. We were seated right away and started with drinks and apps. We got "Disco Boys" and "I'm too pretty for this" cocktails which were tasty - kudos for the fun cocktail names. Calamari, Artisan, and Charcuterie came shortly after. There's a few different options of cheeses and meats, it's sort of a choose your own adventure situation. All were good, especially the calamari. A lot of restaurants tend to overcook it and the calamari gets rubbery, not the case here. Our entrees came out next and I made sure to try a bite of everyone's LOL. The standout of all the entrees was definitely the "Duck, duck" which was, obviously, duck. The runner up would definitely have to be the chicken cacciatore. Overall, really great ambiance, food, and service. I would highly recommend Union 50 if you're looking for something fancy, but not too fancy. If you're a Cunningham member, don't forget to give your phone # to the server to look up your account. Will definitely be back soon!

We shared the petit charcuterie, lamb meatballs, kimchi meatloaf, and the duck duck. Everything was amazing, I don't think you can go wrong with what you choose. We finished off with the house made chocolates, which was just the right amount of sweetness to end a wonderful meal. Highly recommend!

We were able to secure tickets the same afternoon, amazingly, and attended the show. We walked from our hotel, which was the JW Marriott and very close by. I would point out that you need to be sure which gates to enter by as some may not be open for evening shows. At least that was our experience. All this being said, and having walked around inside the facility while the show was underway, it was my impression that the view of the stage from any seat was spectacular. The sound system and the lighting effect were well orchestrated, and the facility staff were very courteous. There were no "traffic jams" among the crowds while trying to enter or exit. Everything moved quite efficiently and I was very comfortable while attending a performance at this venue.

So far I have seen Modest Mouse, Flaming Lips, and Two Door Cinema Club, each one a major win. I've been lawn and right in front of the stag and equally enjoyed both. Even if you want a little more space and go somewhere up the hill where you can't exactly see the stage, there is still such a vibe with the lighting, trees, and park setting. Food-wise? I was a happy camper. The service for food and drinks was very efficient and friendly. There were plenty of places to sit and eat comfortably. I was a little disappointed that all the food stands on my side (the far side) of the theater closed early (I had my eyes on chorizo nachos) but I just walked around, back to the entrance. I highly recommend the reuben styled bratwurst - it had a lovely crisp on the casing. And the cheese friends really hit the spot. I also thought the promotional refill shaker was really really cute. Can't wait to bring it back for my discounted refill!
