I remember going to this theater the weekend it opened to see the first half of wicked. Recently, I went to see the Michael Jackson movie and I have to say my experience this time around was much better than the last time when I went to go see the movie 'Send Help'. I'll just say that the service wasn't the best that they especially for it being midday. Anywho, this last time was a great. I haven't been to his theater since before the company changed over to Alamo, so I was excited to see what was inside. Picking tickets was a breeze. When I went to the counter, I can pick my seats by looking at a screen. Once inside the theater, the seats were labeled and very spacious. They recline with the click if a button and are even heated for those chilly days. I was able to order my food by scanning the QR code. There is an 18% automatic service charge. I went to see the new Michael movie and it was packed. I sat in the second row from the front and surprisingly, I didn't mind. I didn't feel I was looking up at the screen which I enjoyed. I ordered boneless buffalo chicken, and swapped my fries out for a caesar salad at no charge. The chicken was tender and the salad was just okay. I'll always love the sound, Indy-esk vibe all around the theater, and the super kind staff. I really appreciate when businesses go out of their way to sprinkle in a touch of local flair. It really elevates the experience. +The food here has been pretty hit or miss for me. I've found ordering pizza seems to be my sweet spot, and to not really veer too far from that. Recently I tried the buffalo parm garlic tenders and while the chicken seemed great, the sauce was not my favorite. It caught me by surprise when the garlic was actually... minced. It was definitely not what I was expecting, and was a bit overpowering. But, the buffalo itself was pretty good and if I do try tenders again I will likely go that route. Overall a fine experience. The space is decorated nicely with car and movie memorabilia. We took our 3 year old here for his first movie. We saw Zootopia 2 on discount Tuesday and the movie was great! The seats were comfy. We knew what we were expecting coming into it with food and we were really excited about that. However, we only received half of our order and when they realized what happened they didn't try to fix it. They just gave us excuses on why they weren't able to complete our order of a Keylime pie in a jar and some fried peppers. We were handed our receipt with half the movie to go. We paid for our two drinks and popcorn (the half that was remembered) and enjoyed the movie. We're pretty bummed that we didn't get to try the food this time around. We will probably come back at some point. We bought our tickets online before going in. read more

I really wanted to like this place. The art and decorations are fantastic. But compared to Flix or The Living Room, it fails on every level. First, and most egregious, it took 35 minutes to get us a bowl of popcorn. We ordered at 7:20pm, dinged for an update at 7:45pm, and didn't actually get the popcorn until 7:55! A movie theater should be able to fulfill a popcorn order within 5 minutes tops. Staff were generally frazzled and confused. So maybe that was the problem. The impression we got was that they weren't happy we didn't order a full dinner so were being passive aggressive with the delivery. The food was high priced and looked mediocre. Drinks seemed ok. I asked our waitress if they had any nonalcoholic beers. She looked confused at her tablet for a minute, said no, and then I said "Oh. It's here on the menu. I'll have an Athletic." So they don't know their product. The beer took about 20 minutes to get to us--even though it was just a can. I'll go back if they have something unique to watch. I loved this theater! It's a full 30 minutes from my house but I'd go out of way sometimes just for the experience. Before the movie (Superman) they were showing old commercials and a Superman cartoon from 1942. And there was a video clip where one of the managers was talking about who he'd cast as Superman characters. It was totally unexpected and curated to the movie we were there to see. I liked the novelty of having real food during the movie, but I do think next time I would just go with the more traditional popcorn and candy. I had mozzarella sticks but they didn't last as long as popcorn and I was fully done eating before the movie started. I also loved that it was a quiet theater. And it truly was quiet in there. Everything you could need in a movie theater! Let's start with heated seats. They've got heated seats people! So cozy. So comfortable. Almost too comfortable because it transported me straight to nap mode . The seats are super comfortable and they've got moveable trays for food. The menu has a good selection and you can order from your seats. My friend was raving about one of their pizzas. I had the mozzarella sticks which were okay, but the wings were super tasty! There's a bar area as well and all of the cocktails I tried were super tasty. I think they had a watermelon mezcal cocktail and it was my favorite. There is also some cool racing memorabilia to represent Indy and some additional seating areas for when you're waiting for a film. Also, you're in the land of international eateries where the theater is located. Had a great time here for Heartland Film Fest! read more

They ruined it. The very tenet this company was built on, no phones/shut up, has been removed. There are no menus at the seats so you're FORCED to use phones now. We hit the button and our server seemed confused about it. We ordered during the preshow and she didnt take/scan our card so this lead to her hunting down receipts and cards DURING THE LAST HALF HOUR OF THE MOVIE. Totally not distracting. She even came and asked us TWICE for our bill. Dude. We have been coming here since they opened (and were familiar with the alamo prior to it coming to the midwest), the policy was swipe our card at the start, drop off the bill at the end so we can walk out without being bothered. Mobile ordering has ruined that as well as letting people think its okay to be on their phones the whole time. I was a Season Pass member for over a year and when they introduced the All In Pass i quickly signed on but I've cancelled all of that now. What's the point if the very thing that made the Alamo the Alamo is gone? read more

I loved my experience at Alamo Drafthouse! I first visited Alamo Drafthouse in San Antonio so I'm glad I got to experience the Indy version! I did come in on a Friday late afternoon so it wasn't as busy and the theater I was in only had two other people watching a movie so I felt like I pretty much had the theater to myself! I definitely recommend getting there 30 minutes before your movie starts so that you can order your food/drinks. There's a lot of space to host private parties for large groups and there's a patio seating outside too. The bar is small but had lots of liquor options. I love the reclining AND heated seats and the theater itself was very clean! Food was decent and came out nice and hot, I ordered the wings and the banana pudding. The Cold Brew Turbo Shake had little to zero liquor which I was pretty disappointed in. The overall theater decor was cool with race car themed memorabilia. 2nd time around place still needs improvement. Recommend grabbing your adult beverage at the bar before you enter theatre as it will take forever once u sit down. Another recommendation, not sure why they don't have a drink station for the stafff outside of the kitchen area, waited 20 min for a refill and still never came so I got up to get myself all while missing the movie. Pizza this time around wasn't as tasty, not a fan of the flabby bacon, and it was lukewarm,the popcorn had so many kernels on the bottom I could pop another bowl! First time at Alamo. Checking in for the movie was easy. Lots of good stuff on the menu. We ordered Popcorn with butter, pepperoni pizza, chicken wrap and mozzarella sticks. Hooray! Welcome to Indianapolis, Alamo. We have a similar movie theater in Carmel, but there's no need to compare. We can all play nicely together. A rising tide lifts all boats, so the more great movie theatres we have around Indy, the better for everyone. Alamo is known as the movie theatre that has strict rules about no talking and no cell phones when the movie starts. They will kick you out during the movie if you break these rules. Yes! I welcome our strict cinema overlords. This Alamo is unique because it has a lot of car and racing decor, specifically paying homage to our city's racing culture. There are Mario Kart consoles in the mini arcade, there's an IndyCar in the lobby that you can sit in and take selfies, there are murals and movie posters everywhere that are racing themed. My movie-going experience here was great. The chairs are leather, heated and they recline. They were so comfortable that I think I nodded off a couple of times during the movie. But before I fell asleep, I enjoyed a little (OK, big) order of loaded fries, which came with hatch chile queso, cheddar, cojita cheese, bacon, cilantro, scallions, and Sriracha sour cream. They were great, and like I said, one order was pretty big. They have a large menu of adult beverages, including local beers on tap, wine, cocktails and shots. I got a signature cocktail (the Fancy Gin & Tonic). I would call what I got a gin-flavored tonic water, because there was almost no gin in it! Oh well. Next time, I'll probably just get a beer or wine. The food menu is pretty big and your standard American offerings: pizza, chicken tenders, sandwiches, salads, wings. They do have a few vegan things on the menu: vegan cauliflower bites, a vegan burger, vegan supreme pizza and a vegan cauliflower basket. They have a kids menu too, for kids 12 and under. And an especially cool thing is that you get free refills on popcorn, soda and coffee. Speaking of kids: Tuesday matinees are the one time when you can talk and use devices, because it's a sensory-friendly movie time. The lights are a little brighter, the sound is a little lower, and guests can move around and talk. So Tuesdays are a great day to bring young kids, because you won't have to worry about disturbing others. read more

The arrival of Alamo Drafthouse to the Indianapolis market is an absolute gift for movie lovers. While some are surprised they've chosen a spot at 38th and Lafayette Road, I think it's an ideal location in an area that could use the boost (it's also about five minutes from where I grew up - so, I have a fondness for the area). Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is a 13-screen theater with 727 total seats. All seating is assigned and can be reserved in advance, online, and and via mobile app. There's a full food and drink menu including local craft brews. There's a kid's menu. Alamo offers an experience and arriving early lets you take in the full experience. Alamo is super strict about no talking during screenings - they're big on the experience of movie going. They're definitely known to kick folks out across the chain, though I've yet to see how that plays out here in Indy (and as a film critic, I don't talk during films. I barely breathe). There's also zero tolerance for using a phone during a screening. They have a Code of Conduct on their website and are known to enforce it. It's honestly a laid back place for movie lovers - and that's why they take it seriously. Alamo also features the Hot Rod bar - it plays on Indy's racing reputation with murals, racing simulators, and much more. They also have karaoke rooms. I've already been twice - including a special preview for local journalists. What else? Luxury heated recliners with tables/cup holders. Menus at each site (order via pen/paper; call buttons to get a server). Each auditorium has digital 4k projection and sound. All theaters have 7.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound. All auditoriums can also host meetings, etc. Alamo tends to weave together a combination of wide releases and indie/arthouse releases. Movie-themed events are common chainwide. You can get a season pass - $19.99/month and you can see one movie a day. They also have the Victory Rewards program. I could not find a list of accessibility accommodations, however, I was impressed with what I saw in terms of accessibility and an obvious effort at accommodation for all movie lovers. While the westside is a bit harder for me, it's a great location given we've got Living Room downtown, Kan-Kan on the near-eastside, Landmark at Fashion Mall, and Flix in Carmel. The westside needed a great theater and this is it. NOTE: To minimize distractions, they generally don't admit infants/small children, however, they do offer family friendly/kid friendly and sensory friendly screenings. Check the website or contact them if you have a question. There's also no pre-screening advertising - instead, there's unique shows before each screening that are quite cool. OMG! There's a new movie theater in town and it meets up to the hype! I've heard of Alamo Drafthouse being popular in other major cities and was excited to hear that one opened on the west side. Me & my friend went last night to check out Issa Rae's new movie (we're rooting for everyone.... Iykyk haha) & it was an amazing experience. Let me say this, they strictly enforce the rules haha. Make sure you arrive 30 mins before the show starts to order food and/or drinks. Our server was friendly but was VERY SURE to lay out the rules haha they were not playing but they remained professional so we didn't feel a way about it. There's also an age restriction on some movies so be mindful of that before bringing the babies. It's really cute inside. It's a race car theme dedicated to Indy's culture, loved that. There's even a race car simulator that you can drive for 20 mins for $35. (no thank you for me but someone may like it). They sold me on the heated seats and the recliner. It was so cozy! There's a small diner & bar that you can enjoy if you would like to eat before heading to your movie room. My expectations were low for movie theatre food & drinks but to my surprise every thing was really good. I had the buffalo wings & the Habanero Margarita & a Prosecco. I would rate everything a 7.5/10. My total came to about $53 but they add an 18% gratuity to each tab (which was fine!). They do a good job of letting you know about the gratuity because it's on the big screen before the movie starts & is reiterated by the server. I had went here to watch the movie Sinners when it first came out. I am giving this movie place a 3 because when we got there we had to wait 35-40min to be able to enter the theater due to them being short staffed. The movie didn't start on time but once it did everything went well. Service for ordering food and drinks was a little slow but it was okay given the circumstances they did pick it up. I had only ordered a drink and it was good. The prices were reasonable. The theater was comfortable and the atmosphere was nice. I would give them another shot. read more

The IndyCar up front was a great way to pay homage to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway that isn't far away from this location. I am very happy that we have such a theater in this part of town finally. It seems to be fairly busy too, so hopefully they will stay a while. Went to see a matinee, unfortunately there don't seem to be any discounts for matinees or seniors. Seems a bit more expensive than other theaters, but you get to have dinner too if you so choose. I had a frozen margarita which was pretty good. Also enjoyed the cauliflower bites with fries. The cauliflower was a bit overdone, but not bad. So why am I only giving 4 stars you ask? Well for one I was about 3 minutes early, so they made me wait until they announce seating, however, they let a family go back to that particular theater, but waited another 5 minutes past the official seating time to finally announce that I may enter also. And the seat that I had chosen did not function. So if you are in theater 9, do not book seat 3 in row 6... it doesn't recline at all. read more

So we go to the movies a lot and wanted to do something different so we made the 45 minute drive to the Alamo Drafthouse. When you enter the door you will see a bar so we sat down and ordered a couple drinks. The cocktails were okay but you could tell the young lady wasn't a bartender and it showed in the cocktails. The bartender advised it's best to order food and concessions from her that way we would be sure to get them quickly. That didn't happen. We had to continually flag someone down and remind them we are waiting on food and beverages. My Coke was okay but the lemonade was terrible. We ordered mozzarella sticks and they were okay, we got chicken tenders and they were decent. The fries were good. We ordered popcorn and requested extra butter, I couldn't taste any butter so I again flagged down someone and they brought me a ramekin of butter and that helped a little. They claimed to have zero tolerance in talking and cell phone use stating that you get one warning and then you are ejected from the theater. I can tell you they don't enforce this because we had an entire family behind us who talked and ran in and out of the theater the entire movie. We choose the 3rd row which is the main aisle. That was a big mistake as not only did we have the patrons behind us running in and out, the servers were constantly walking in front of us. It was obvious they didn't know how to bring many things at once as they brought everything one item at a time . I needed a refill on my Coke so I wrote that down and I ordered both kinds of m&m's and they are the same one's you buy at the Dollar Tree except they charged me $6 for them. I get a profit needs to be made but that is just price gouging. And these places wonder why people bring their own? Finally they add gratuity to every bill. Not a fan of that because service was terrible and auto gratuity gives no incentive to do any better. I feel like I was overcharged but they don't bring an itemized bill it just has a total and a place to add extra gratuity. Between 2 tickets and the above mentioned items we spent $150. We could have went to any of our Hamilton county theaters and spent a lot less and had a more enjoyable experience. read more

This was such a fun date night for us! We watched Gladiator II and it was so good! We got here a little early to check out the new theater lobby. It was a little smaller than I expected but really cool with all the racing memorabilia and the old car which doubled as a photo opportunity. They had a full bar to sit at and a swanky lounge around the corner. You can come here just for drinks and food if you want as well. They let us try a couple of beer tasters before ordering, too. I'm not great with names, but I think the bartenders we interacted with were Taylor and Cynthia (something with a C). Regardless, both ladies were fun to talk to and helped us with all our questions. They made it an enjoyable place to hang out :) They announced our theater was opening and we got in line and found our seats easily. The seats were incredibly comfy. I love that they're heated as well. I'm a lizard and I need that heat! They lounge back as well. Our server was John and he was working incredibly hard at make sure all his guests were comfortable and their needs taken care of. He was very attentive. No pics of the food or drinks in the theater because we were respecting the no phones rule. But DANG the food was so good! I can't wait to come back and try more :) we each got a pizza - I got pepperoni and it was so good, the little pepperonis were perfectly crispy - and my bf got the carnivore, he said it was really good. We also got mozzarella sticks and chips and queso to share. The mozz sticks were pretty good, as you would find at any restaurant. But the chips and queso could have been my dinner alone. It was like a salsa and cheese dip. One of the best quesos I've had in a long time. We couldn't get enough! My bf enjoyed the beer and I had the Pineapple Ti' Punch - highly recommend especially if you love tiki drinks. And we both ended with shakes. They were out of the Papa Elf Pepp. schnapps shake so I got the candy cane shake with a shot of vanilla vodka (amazing!) and he got the Grasshopper shake (just as good, but more minty). The bill comes with gratuity included and we really appreciated the business being up front about that. You can also tip your servers more if you think they've done an incredible job. They have a separate seating area to eat and drink. Think studio movie grill with more to look at with a racing theme. The food is delicious! I was most impressed with that. They have strict no talking/ no cell phone policy rules. There's is plenty of room between rows as servers need to come thru and you can recline your seats pretty far back. They have intimate theatres with varying sizes with single digit numbered rows. They do have automatic gratuity of 18% on your check. The tickets are a bit pricey. Food is decently priced. I had the bottomless truffle popcorn which was perfectly seasoned in every bite. I also had the queso and chips which was very good. Good quality ingredients. Must experience!! I'm not a fan of being interrupted during the movie or eating but if that's your thing this is great. They also have a patio which looks fun when the weather is nice. This is my new favorite place to see movies in Indianapolis. I live close to the Flix in Carmel and decided to go out of my way to go here because of how much I've enjoyed it. The food here is top notch. I've been twice now and the most recent time I got the buffalo chicken tenders which had an amazing breading, good heat and some great homemade ranch. In addition to the food, the service was incredibly quick and unobtrusive to my movie watching experience. Last but not least, the seating here is amazing. Came to see Ballerina. Theater was 80+ degrees. I asked for free popcorn and coke at least to make up for it, they said no but would refund my ticket. I pay for season pass so that doesn't benefit me at all. I'm being penalized for paying for their service. I am considering canceling my season pass and never going here again, crazy they won't do anything to make it right, I DO NOT RECOMMEND going here if something is not right they will not make it right for you and waste your entire night. Ended up leaving because I'm not going to sweat for 2+ hours. Completely ridiculous. Getting childcare, taking the time to drive out, and nothing is done to make it right. read more
