We were staying across the street, so early Sunday morning I jogged across to visit. The people here were all incredibly welcoming and friendly. They even insisted I have a free cappuccino from their little coffee shop. The music director gave me a little tour around the facility, answering all of my questions, and generally just being a very nice person. He did a fantastic job leading the hymns today. It looked me like everyone in the church was singing along! The minister, Jesse, is quite an accomplished speaker. It was a challenging, yet informative message this morning. His sermon was on the Book of Ruth. This Sunday was hymn Sunday, in which they sang traditional hymns. Wow--they were all my favorites! A wonderful Fellowship full of friendly people. I cannot say enough good things about this church.

The priest was interesting and light-hearted. The architecture is remarkable and appropriate to its mountain setting. The view beyond the altar is magnificent. Appointments within the church, especially the stained glass windows, are tasteful and lovely. Even if you are not Catholic, a visit to this church will be inspiring.

The church is beautiful and has stunning views of Lake Tahoe, even while sitting in the pews! The priest was inspiring and kind. His message brought the last lines of the prayer of St Francis de Assisi to life! Alas, the sign on the door said no masses until July 2. Apparently, the slow ski season affects the church as well! (In spite of the fact that skiing remains open because of the heavy snow this year.) Not surprisingly, the church is locked at other times, so you can't go in for prayers or silent meditation. Nonetheless, I'm sure this church is quite popular during heavy ski times at Squaw.

Services are full of the local parishioners as well as Catholic visitors from around the world. Masses are easy to follow along. Priests and all administration are easy to reach. Bulletins available online Holy day masses (Christmas, Easter, Good Friday etc) fill quickly so arrive a bit early. Also, on snow days, the parking lot may not be plowed. Make sure mass is being held if there is/was a heavy storm.

The disgusting part, even predatory, was when the pastor said to me "I know you don't have much family left, and now you won't have your church family either". How disgusting to manipulate someone and coerce them to agree to any terms just to keep their friends, that is pretty low.
