I went to this non-profit center and food bank Wednesday, April 3, 2019. This building is located…read morenext to a school. They have small parking a lot (no handicapped spaces, by the way), which was full because one car was not parked correctly and took up two spaces. I saw someone else access the place by pulling by the center using the school parking, but there is a sign it is only for school personnel during the day, so I was weary of that. Instead, I parked on the street, which was a little difficult, since there are like literally 10 feet piles of snow still in South Lake Tahoe, even though it was April! WTF? I used to live in the snow-belt of upstate New York, and by April there was only a little bit of snow. When I went in, the office was empty, as they were having a meeting in the backroom. A lower-ranking worker, who was outside bringing in the pallets of food, was nice, telling me to go to the back room, and also apologizing for blocking the entry way. He also sneaked me extra bread at the end. The other employee who came out of the meeting was super friendly, and showed me what to do. It is very informal there. There was no line. You just walk in and you can take one pre-made bag of commodities, and whatever bread and other items they have on the shelf by the kitchen. There are no forms or verifications required. Their website said they only had USDA commodities (food) beginning on the second Friday of the month until they run out, but I guess they must have changed that. In the office there were all kinds of brochures about other services offered in the community. This location also offers English language classes, parenting classes, and a clothing bank, and runs a used book store called The Bookworks, at the mall in South Lake Tahoe. Many many years ago this memorial started when a couple highschool kids passed away in a horrific car accident on Pioneer Trail. I know that road and I've driven it in the dark with ice and snow and with its subtle twisties it can be very very dangerous. Front and center is a beautiful log with many names fastened on. It is surrounded by benches and the constant hum of cars driving on Highway 50 fills the air. Very scenic area even with the freeway - full of lawn and trees and everything is very well taken care of. One could spend a good amount of time here looking at all the names and dates. I'm sure the locals would recognize some names too as this is a small community that happens to cater to tourists. I like to spend a little time also learning from horrible events in history - from being familiar with traveling in the snow - I can be very confident in saying the only way to learn how to drive in the snow is to make mistakes and see the limits of your car and tires. A good driver's teacher would encourage a new driver to to test the limits in a safe empty space. My first time driving with chains I remember thinking the chains would help a lot... they really don't. Front wheel drive and rear wheel drive and all wheel drive cars all have different characteristics and I've driven all the above here with anything from summer tires to three mountain peak michelins. Again, every car is different. There is such an empty feeling around this area. One can feel the loss of all these young people. The memorial reminds us to be thankful for the time people are around.

He pointed me towards a local organization that did adult diagnosis, but he also encouraged me to navigate Kaiser Permanente's process since that was my health insurance provider. I successfully navigated Kaiser's process which is terrible if you're neurodivergent, but ultimately their Psychiatric team diagnosed me with ASD. I'm learning so much about myself, and thank Dave for the help he gave!

This organization provides social services and supplies necessary outreach to both educate and advocate in the defense of our youth. Being non-profit, they work on your pre-agreed upon donations. Basically, what you can afford. My daughter tells me the whole staff from social workers to clerical are professional, helpful people. Here we are again at the stateline. All of the good stuff is so close to the line. We love staying…read moreas close to the state line as possible. We tend to bounce back and forth from California to Nevada several times a day. This time we stayed on the Nevada side of the state line as that was the best deal we could get and the nicest rooms. Most of our activities were had on the California side. We love all the outdoor music venues California has to offer. From acoustic guitar to rick music all is offered free of charge at local restaurants. The rick band was had by a lot of fans sitting in the courtyard on benches or on the fountain wall. Some people even brought their own chairs. As for beaches and lakeside views both sides have lots to offer. We were tempted to go to Zephyr Cove, but were worried about parking so we passed this time. We like the option of Driving to South Lake Tahoe parking once and walking everywhere so we went to the beach on the stateline and walked in on the California side. We saw lots of boats crossing the line as they drove all around enjoying the views. We did stay on the Nevada side of the line one day for breakfast at a local coffee shop and that was really nice. Other than that we crossed the line and ate on the California side. We love bouncing back and forth and we hope you do too.
