    60 foot waterfall
    Isobel L.

Pictures don't do justice to the majesty of this waterfall. Owned and operated by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, the hike up to the stunning 60-foot Tahquitz waterfall is an absolute must if you're in the Palm Springs area. There's an admission fee, payable at the Visitor Center, which is well worth it for a sparkling clean and well-maintained trail (not even gonna talk about reparations but come on, let's do it, this fee is nothing in the overall picture.) Thanks to tropical storm Hilary and a rainier than usual winter/spring, the waterfall was incredible on my most recent visit. It's permitted to swim in the naturally formed pool underneath and swim people did, under the sycamores in a lovely shady area. The hike up can be a bit strenuous depending on the heat and the humidity; it is required to take at least two liters of water with you for the 2 mile round trip hike. Parking free in the lot. Highly suggested to visit as early as possible.

This is a hidden gem. Usually don't pay to hike but the fee here is worth it. $15 to be exact. This is 2 mile looping trail with no shade. The trail is a nice incline with lots of steep steps. The payoff is awesome when you reach the Tahquitz fall. There is shade up there and water if you want to dive in to refresh yourself before you make your way down the trail. It's true that you are beat when your going up this trail but when you reach the falls you get re energized. Make sure you have sunblock and plenty of water. You won't be let up if you don't have at least 32oz of water. It's required. If not the ranger will sell you some. I would suggest coming early too before it gets really hot. Happy trails.

A 1.9 round trip hike to see Tahquitz Falls. This time of year (January) the falls are pretty decent and the weather is not too warm with a nice occasional breeze. Altogether, it's about a 400 feet climb and is fairly easy except there are stone steps to navigate. There's a fee that contributes to taking care of the park although I personally felt $15 was a bit much. Otherwise, this hike to see a water oasis in the desert was definitely an enjoyable adventure! Tips: Having your own water is required especially during the warmer months. At this time, a mask is required to go into the welcome center where we purchase our tickets. Finally, there are nice, clean bathrooms at the welcome center.

Love this place! It's absolutely magical! So fun to bring out of town guest here! The water is flowing extra deep which makes a swim really fun!

I'll gladly pay the $12.50 admission fee if it means that I can enjoy the canyon and falls in it's pristine natural state without trash and graffiti. The canyon became a mecca for hippies in 1969 who invaded the area causing it to be closed to the public for 35 years. In 2005, after 3 years of cleanup, it was thankfully reopened to the public. The trail to the 60-ft desert waterfall is 2 miles roundtrip. You are surrounded by tall mountain canyon walls and large giant colorful boulders that have tumbled down from the steep cliffs. There are a number of rock shelters and caves. The path is a well maintained loop so you won't miss anything on either side. Climb up stone steps, cross over streams via stone bridges, view original bedrock mortars and restored ancient rock art. The water that flows in the stream is crystal clear and forms pools in areas. I went in the morning and I had cool shade for most of the the hike. There's a teaser waterfall before the main attraction. The main waterfall sits at the end of a sycamore-shaded canyon. Water flows over a granite cliff into a deceptively deep pool of water. It's really impressive. As would be expected, it get warmer and more crowded towards the afternoon so I definitely wrecommend arriving early to maximize the zen. This place is best visited in the winter and spring months when the volume of the falls is at its peak from the snow melt of Mt Jacinto. As mentioned, you'll need to pay a fee when you pass through the Agua Caliente Tahquitz Visitors Center. You can chose the interpretive hike option where you hike with a guide. They sell water and there's also a nice bathroom. Parking is free.

From what I know the Spider Bug was built by Robert Miner who owned and ran the Hole in the Wall repair shop for several decades from the 70s to the 1990s according to old articles in the Desert Sun - I believe it's still home and/or property to his daughter and family. Not sure if they reside permanently here, but always be respectful and mindful of people's homes as well as private property - especially home to an iconic Spider Bug.

Show them your pass and we're ushered into the parking lot. And we get free parking with the pass. The first tram up the mountain is at 10:00am which we just missed. But they run every 15 minutes or so. When you purchase a ticket, a departing time is noted. Be sure to be there at least 10 minutes early as that's the time the tram door open up. We've seen people missing it as they thought it was to be at the ticket gate instead. Show your pass and they scan it. Then you head into the waiting room before the door opens. If you want your souvenirs picture taken, they offer that right after check in. Once tram door opens, there's two entrance. Tram rotates so you get a full view of the mountain going up and seeing the valley below. A fun little 10 minutes ride up and down. Driver does explain how the tram works and it's lively with music. Also it runs every 15 minutes I believe so just make sure to be back on time for the last tram. We came this time for another hike. As always, don't forget to get a hiking pass as it's needed. Get it from ranger station and return in into the mailbox after your finished. We wanted to check out hidden lake on this hike but found out that the pass is only issued during the weekend for that hike. Oh well, give us another reason to come back for another hike. But it's still nice for all the other hikes. Plus this trip, as we've done the hike before it helped with location and knowing how much more we had to go. Trails are beautiful and the scenery is worth every second. Nature is beautiful and it's helps with a major decrease in temperature on top of the mountain. If you come for a hike, it's worth it. Camping is also available as well. A nice break from the heat down below in the valley.

One of the coolest parts is that the floor inside the tram slowly rotates during the ride, so everyone gets panoramic views regardless of where they're standing. It's easy to understand why these are considered the world's largest rotating tram cars. The ride itself can feel a little disorienting at times, especially when passing over the support towers, but in a fun way more than a scary one. The staff throughout the experience were extremely friendly. The biggest frustration was transportation from the parking lots to the base station. The shuttle buses took much longer than expected, and the lines to return down the mountain can also get pretty long depending on timing, so patience helps. We spent some time at the Lookout Lounge at the top. The drinks are definitely "vacation pricing" with long pours running about $24 each, but the views and atmosphere made it enjoyable. One final tip: it can get incredibly windy and much cooler at the top than down in Palm Springs, so don't assume desert temperatures follow you up the mountain.

I work with many tourists who ask me about great activities and this is the top on my list. Donnie and Kathy (the tour guides) are so much fun- taking us through the history of Palm Springs, while pointing out the newer details about the area. History, culture, art, food, what more can we ask for? They kept us hydrated and filled with beverages, water, food and even a nifty gift bag. This tour is small and intimate, with only 6 guests, so everyone has a chance to ask questions and absorb! The tour includes several stops featuring cocktails, mocktails and food while you enjoy the experience. Some of our stops included several popular and my personal choices, Eight Four Nine and Crudo. We were treated to Crudo's pistachio lime cocktail - perfect beverage to feel relaxation at its finest! These may be on your tour, or there will be other wonderful places. Best to even take the tour again, in case you missed something! I don't want to give much more away so just trust me and make your reservation now. It's truly memorable and magical!
