It is a very walkable town with plenty of parking lots to handle the January through March crowds. I am looking forward to another eventul Modernism week in February. All my favorite restaurants are locatated in downtown, like Farm, Cheeky's, Wilma and Frieda, Al Dente, 849, and Tropicale to name a few, with so many more like Bongo Johnny's and Broken Yolk. I love strolling the shops like Best Bookstore and Tommy Bahamas.and checking out the Cahuilla museum gift shop.

It's such an iconic design being part vehicle part spider - Volkswagen meets Arachnid at the intersection of Garnet Avenue / Indian Canyon Drive directly across from Yamana Motor Sports and directly next to Jack in the Box The Pilot Gas Station and Chevron Station sit opposite on the other corners of this small business intersection just before the the off/on ramp for the 10 fwy in North Palm Springs. Even if you're able to park somewhere safe and securely (like Jack in the Box), you can't go fully onto the physical property itself - but you can get a great pic or look. From what I know the Spider Bug was built by Robert Miner who owned and ran the Hole in the Wall repair shop for several decades from the 70s to the 1990s according to old articles in the Desert Sun - I believe it's still home and/or property to his daughter and family. Not sure if they reside permanently here, but always be respectful and mindful of people's homes as well as private property - especially home to an iconic Spider Bug.

That summer pass is coming in very handy. It's a perfect way to beat the heat and a change of…read morescenery. Driving in was very easy. Show them your pass and we're ushered into the parking lot. And we get free parking with the pass. The first tram up the mountain is at 10:00am which we just missed. But they run every 15 minutes or so. When you purchase a ticket, a departing time is noted. Be sure to be there at least 10 minutes early as that's the time the tram door open up. We've seen people missing it as they thought it was to be at the ticket gate instead. Show your pass and they scan it. Then you head into the waiting room before the door opens. If you want your souvenirs picture taken, they offer that right after check in. Once tram door opens, there's two entrance. Tram rotates so you get a full view of the mountain going up and seeing the valley below. A fun little 10 minutes ride up and down. Driver does explain how the tram works and it's lively with music. Also it runs every 15 minutes I believe so just make sure to be back on time for the last tram. We came this time for another hike. As always, don't forget to get a hiking pass as it's needed. Get it from ranger station and return in into the mailbox after your finished. We wanted to check out hidden lake on this hike but found out that the pass is only issued during the weekend for that hike. Oh well, give us another reason to come back for another hike. But it's still nice for all the other hikes. Plus this trip, as we've done the hike before it helped with location and knowing how much more we had to go. Trails are beautiful and the scenery is worth every second. Nature is beautiful and it's helps with a major decrease in temperature on top of the mountain. If you come for a hike, it's worth it. Camping is also available as well. A nice break from the heat down below in the valley.

This is absolutely worth doing at least once if you're visiting Palm Springs…read more The tram climbs from the desert floor up into the mountains in about 10 minutes, rising from roughly 2,600 feet to over 8,500 feet, and the scenery change is pretty incredible. One of the coolest parts is that the floor inside the tram slowly rotates during the ride, so everyone gets panoramic views regardless of where they're standing. It's easy to understand why these are considered the world's largest rotating tram cars. The ride itself can feel a little disorienting at times, especially when passing over the support towers, but in a fun way more than a scary one. The staff throughout the experience were extremely friendly. The biggest frustration was transportation from the parking lots to the base station. The shuttle buses took much longer than expected, and the lines to return down the mountain can also get pretty long depending on timing, so patience helps. We spent some time at the Lookout Lounge at the top. The drinks are definitely "vacation pricing" with long pours running about $24 each, but the views and atmosphere made it enjoyable. One final tip: it can get incredibly windy and much cooler at the top than down in Palm Springs, so don't assume desert temperatures follow you up the mountain.

This is for all you Mid-Century Modern lovers out there. The Kaufmann name came from Edgar J. Kaufmann he was a Pittsburgh Department Store Tycoon. He wanted a retreat from the harsh winters back east. The Architect is Richard Neutra this is by far one of his famous works to date. He designed the house in 1946. There is no tours of this house. In fact it is private. You will see a no trespassing sign with armed alert. So whatever you do take pictures outside of the property. I cannot put other website links on this site. Mark & Ian (proprietors) were on vacation, but their friend Carlos was manning the tasting room and was a fantastic host. We tasted four of their latest releases, including a revisit of our favorite pour. We tried the '23 Grenache Rosé, '23 Pinot Noir, '20 El Capitan red blend (47% Cab Sauv, 30% Mourvèdre, & 23% Syrah), and a '20 Petite Sirah. They age their red wines for 1-2 years in neutral oak barrels, and I would describe their reds as medium bodied and very smooth. Bottles were running in the $37 - $59 range (before 20% club member discounts). As usual, we took home a couple bottles of our favorites. I work with many tourists who ask me about great activities and this is the top on my list. Donnie and Kathy (the tour guides) are so much fun- taking us through the history of Palm Springs, while pointing out the newer details about the area. History, culture, art, food, what more can we ask for? They kept us hydrated and filled with beverages, water, food and even a nifty gift bag.
