Took over an hour for the food to arrive and when it did, it was bland. Quite disappointed. Won't be back.

This is the best Chinese restaurant around. They are a family favorite. The service is always fast and the owners are wonderful people. I cannot say enough good stuff about this place. I've never have had a bad meal or experience, and we've been going there since I was a kid. When I moved away, I missed this place more than anything. The food is really good and the portions are big. However if you ask for anything extra, please check your bill as they charge you for anything extra. For example, we asked for scallions for the soup and we were charged $3.95 for them. We will probably eat here again, but will bring our own extra spices! read more

The owners are fantastic and know most of the customers by name and know what you order! I compare all other Chinese to this and none every live up to my high standards! My wife and I have been eating at Tai Pan for 10 years now. I travel on occasion with work, so I have had the opportunity to eat at a variety of big city Asian restaurants. Tai Pan's food is tasty, the restaurant is clean, the owners and their staff are very kind and polite, and the price is reasonable. Overall for all of these factors Tai Pan is one of my favorite restaurants, Asian or otherwise. I have taken Asian colleagues to the Tai Pan to entertain and they agree that the food is very good - but I do hear occasionally from them that it is "American Chinese Food", I have also heard that it is very "Southern" Chinese... and not spicy like "Northern" Chinese like to eat. I spent a few weeks in the Southern part of China and I can say that the food I encountered was often very similar to Tai Pan's cuisine. I realize this and when I have a taste for something different I just go somewhere else. There are several good options in the Cleveland/ Akron area depending on what you are having a taste for. I don't think you can expect one restaurant to encompass the entire culinary variety of the Asian continent! Depending on when you go the place is often packed with standing room only for those waiting to get a seat. Other times you can walk right in and get a seat. I recommend going for lunch if you can as they do have better prices and more reasonable portions for lunch. By more reasonable I mean smaller! Dinner portions are pretty darn big and I almost always need a carry out container for left overs. read more

Pork fried rice at Tai Pan is the best I've had anywhere, including busy china town take out places in Chicago and Cleveland. I've eaten at Tai Pan for 20 years, 10+ times a year, and I can say that I have never gotten a meal here that was anything but excellent. Usually great. Frequent regularly. Went this past weekend with some friends from out of town and had the worse experience ever. Had a group of 9 people. Got food after a good 45 min passed. 4 people in our groups rice was burned. Informed manager that the rice was burned. She said "let me check" walked back to the kitchen area then came back out and stated "yea the rice was all cooked in the same pot" Then went on to say "theres nothing i can do about it" i said "ugh yes you can bc i'm not paying for burnt rice" After attitude was given she says "Ok i get you new rice". Continued to eat our meals without touching the burned rice. Finished what we could and ready to leave when a server shows up with "new rice". I tell him to box it up as we are finished eating and ready to go. Asked for the manager again. She comes to the table and gives me full attitude. I tell her how much i've frequented the restaurant and that the service and food is usually great but not so good this particular day. She says "you want discount fine" and storms off to kitchen again. I get to the counter to stand and wait for her to come back with discounted check and i hear her ranting in the back and the whole restaurant can hear her! Meanwhile her workers are peeking out at me. She comes back out and throws my receipt at me! She discounts my food 10%. What a joke and a huge embarrassment! My bill was about $140. Can't believe i spent that much there to be treated so poorly!!!! I Will never go back. Your good there as long as your food is cooked appropriately. read more
