Very pleasant, family owned, that's the reason for the two stars. As a restaurant, the food has become more of a fast food, already prepared, frozen and warmed on order. The egg rolls and beef lo mein were obviously frozen and heated, they were bland with no individual taste to the ingredients and the jumbo shrimp were 1" flat frozen vandekamp style. I hope this review inspires Smiles to do better. I'd rather spend $50 for quality food made to order than $40 and throw it all in the trash. read more

When we moved to the area more than a decade ago, I tried this place and didn't return because I thought it seemed dirty inside. We gave it another try last night as I read it was under new management as of 2020. I was very pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness of the kitchen when I picked up my order. Order was packed nicely and remained hot. Food was good! Not the BEST American Chinese I've ever had, but good nonetheless. We ordered sweet and sour chicken, orange chicken, wonton soup, chicken lo mein, an egg roll and spring roll for my family of 4. It was PLENTY of food with lots of leftovers. Wontons were generously filled with pork, and you get crunchy noodles with each soup order. Orange chicken could have used a tad more sauce but tasted good. Sweet and sour chicken was standard. The kids loved the lo mein. I'd like to try the tofu general tso's next time and maybe chicken in garlic sauce. Mei fun looked good too. We will definitely try it again! This is a family run restaurant so the kids are present. The youngest plays in the dining area with his toys while the rest of the family works in the kitchen and at the register. I'm happy to directly support a family (instead of panda express), and my best friend as a child had a similar setup with a family run restaurant so it doesn't bother me, but some negative reviews commented on it so I thought I should address. There is very limited dining space so I would truly only consider this a to-go location and it doesn't hinder the rating at all. 4-stars only because I would like a little more sauce across the board and I prefer when chinese restaurant menus give a full description of the dish because I often don't know what specific veggies come with each or if chicken is fried or not. First timer. I happened upon this take out restaurant when shopping at Once upon a Child. $4.95 lunch specials, you can't beat it. The woman at the counter was welcoming and pleasant. The general Tso chicken lunch special tasty which included won ton soup. Of course, it wasn't spectacular chinese food but for $4.95 it was fine. I would order there again. The interior tables were clean if dining in. I included photos of soup & shrimp chips. read more

I have ordered take-out fr Smiles. The food is of consistent taste and quality every time. My favorite is any of the Mei Fun - the Singapore is a tad spicy but delicious. The food is ready in 15-20 mins. depending on how busy they are. The portion size is generous as well. I've ordered Kung Pao, and Lemon Chicken. I prefer their non-breaded fare. read more

I used to really, really love this place. I don't know if it was just a bad night tonight or what. But I just picked up my food and I'm eating it right now, and wow, is it mediocre and dare I say - bad. I think mall food is better than this. First of all, the shrimp in my lo mein was tasteless and they were so tiny. Secondly, I don't think I'm eating sesame chicken?? It's never been so bright orange before and doesn't taste like much but regardless, it's extremely dry, they gave me two pieces of broccoli and the rice is undercooked and hard. I don't think I'll be ordering from here anymore. Not to mention when I walked in to pick up my online order, the place smelled like a bathroom and there was a plate of food on the floor holding open the door behind the counter, there was a baby in the back kitchen which is probably unsanitary and unsafe for a few reasons. I used to really enjoy getting Chinese food from here but they've definitely changed the way they make their food. I ordered orange chicken and rice which was only $5 which isn't bad but the chicken was absolutely disgusting. The chicken was stringy and dry and overall just really awful tasting. This has been my go to " Chinese" restaurant in the Macedonia area for nearly 5 years. The food always has good flavor, is consistent and they always get my order correct! I've tried other local spots and always come back to Smiles. read more

Their food just has no flavor, or at least was the case last time I went. Some of the worst sesame chicken I've ever had because they just didn't put a lot of sauce on it and it was dry. The staff was nice though. But I'd find a different place. Frankie's Wok in Brecksville is always a great option! read more

The eggrolls were nasty, tasted like something rancid was in it. The beef filling tasted like funky cheese. The wonton soup filling was the same exact filling as the eggroll and it had the same taste. The shrimp chips that came with the wonton soup even tasted stale/bland. Lunch specials are my favorite. Quick and low cost. You can't beat that. The lady there is very friendly too.

We stopped at the Clarion Hotel in Akron and the Smiles menu was featured in the hotel guest services. So much to choose from. We ordered and were told it would be an hour before our food arrived. True to their word, it was an hour before some extremely rude delivery person showed up. We'd ordered beef noodles, tofu general tsao, and egg drop soup. We're in a hotel that FEATUREs this restaurant and you would think they'd deliver it with the correct utensils?! No spoon for the soup. The food was terrible. They must use rancid oil. The egg roll that came with the meal was inedible. We both feel sick. I hope we don't end up with food poisoning. Yes, it's that bad. $22 + $5 tip gone. read more

I have been getting take out from Smiles for the last 8 years. At the end of 2019 or beginning of 2020 they changed ownership but maintained the name and menu. Almost immediately there was a decline in quality as they began to change the recipes. Needless to say after two more attempts we are not going back. read more

This is not the best Chinese you can get, but the price to quality ratio is superb. $5 lunch specials, around $7-8 for dinner. Ready in 10 minutes. The food here is very fast food Chinese. I definitely prefer lots of fresh vegetables and I know I won't get that here. It's all deep fried meats with little to no fruit or vegetables in most of the dishes like orange sauce/sweet and sour dishes. The dishes like meat and broccoli have a decent amount of broccoli but the meat is still deep fried. I love fried rice but I'm not crazy about their fried rice. It's more like a Mexican yellow rice than a fried rice so I usually get something like lo mein without the rice. I've been inside numerous times and each time the kitchen is not very clean. I prefer several other restaurants over this one but sometimes I just can't travel that far during lunchtime or after work. read more

Horrible. This place used to be decent; must have changed hands. Shrimp egg roll had one minuscule shrimp, lots of grease and tasted of rancid oil. Sesame noodles were a pile of noodles (of questionable origin) with what had to be creamy peanut butter squirted on top. Fried pot stickers looked and tasted like they had been cooked days ago and warmed up in an oven: dry and tasteless. The "house" fried rice was super dry, again had the rancid oil taste, and had none of the promised ingredients of pork, beef or chicken...but did have (again) that one annoying minuscule shrimp. This is not just bad food, it is a rip-off. Do not let these folks continue this scam. Do not patronize them. read more
