I am happy to share that I had my wedding dress altered here in at least four different places (the length and width of the skirt, the back area, and the arms I believe were all taken in). Mine only involved one fitting/consultation and one pick up appointment because my dress was non-traditional and very small, almost like a cocktail dress. That being said, I really appreciated the opportunity to save on the cost of the additional appointment and the woman even tried to talk me out of one of one of the adjustments that she thought I didn't need (to be specific it was the back of the dress near the opening on top). I did it anyway and in total it came out to $226.63. I appreciated the timeliness of the appointments (for the most part) and the easy booking process. The turnaround time for the alteration itself was about 30 days which was just right for me. The shop was pretty busy and it's quite small, but there is seating outside on a small bench and it's in a cute enough area of Williamsburg where you can kick back. My small bit of feedback would be to offer a better, full length mirror in the upper (near the door) fitting room and to offer a restroom. After a different tailor canceled on me multiple times, I went to Tailoress Atelier ~7 weeks before my wedding with two dresses to alter. Luciana reassured me that everything would get done in time, and continuously provided me with such wonderful service every time I went in. My main dress just needed a simple hem, but my second dress needed to be taken in multiple sizes and was a lace corset. Recently, I found myself in need of my first tailoring job, and a big one at that! I am the best woman in an upcoming wedding, and in order to have the suits all match, I had to purchase a men's suit. Now, while this suit fit in the general sense, I looked like a child playing dress up in a linebacker's closet. The pants fit in the waist, but the rest of them were double as wide as necessary, the non padded jacket sitting above my shoulders like I was wearing shoulder pads. It was a mess. I knew I was going to have to tailor it, but I had trouble envisioning how anyone could really help me make this work. Based on tons of reviews I decided to go to Tailoress Atelier, both for the quality of their work and also their customer service. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My experience was lovely from start to finish.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]First, I ended up missing my inital consultation due to Covid. They were very understanding, and my consultation being pushed back a week would have put me in rush job territory (just under 4 weeks) but they were lovely and understood it wasn't my planning, but illness, that caused this and did not add rush job pricing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] For the consultation, they are booked for I believe 15-30 minutes? Mine took nearly an hour because they wanted to ensure everything was pinned perfectly and in the most effective way, both for sewing methods to use and keeping me from going broke! They worked to ensure they were able to provide me with what I needed but also maintain my budget within reason, as this was a latge job that basically required disassembling and reassembling the suit. I finally went to pick up the suit this week and was shocked at the magic they worked! The pants nicely tapered with no diaper butt, and the jacket smoothed down and no longer giving football player vibes, and all the lengths were perfect. While quality tailoring can be pricey (especially for the amount of work I needed!) Tailoress Atelier's quality and customer service were worth every penny. Should I need tailoring in the future I will definitely return to their shop. (Which is also so cute and homey inside!) read more

The zipper seams of one of my favorite dresses was quite literally torn at the seams. I have never had any item of clothing altered / fixed and was hesitant to do so. However, after trying to apply 10 safety pins to the back and failing to part with it, I realized it was time to put my big girl shoes on and conduct a Google search. I chose relatively blindly, not knowing much about price ranges and going mainly off of location and a quick glance at reviews. Tailoress Atelier was close to my neighborhood and received many compliments. I booked a timeslot on their website, it was ....seamless (lol). It's located in, what looks like, a former apartment unit in East Williamsburg. Upon entry, I felt very comfortable and the whole vibe was very homey. I showed the staff where the issue on my dress was and after a quick perusal, she gave me a quote of $65 for repair and a turnaround time of 7 days. I paid and scheduled the pick-up on the spot. Fast forward a week later, there was no wait when I showed up at my appt time. The staff member showed me the now-fixed zipper and offered me a chance to try it on before leaving the store. I was in a rush so opted out of the try on. The whole pick-up process took around 1 minute. I have no baseline of how much a zipper seam tear usually costs, but now my favorite dress is wearable, and it was so easy to do! read more

I really wanted to believe in this place, as they are LGBTQ friendly and appeared kind. I had 4 button up collared shirts made at almost $1000, and they admitted when I came to get them that they had rushed on them. I didn't think anything of that at the moment, but when I tried to wear them all the problems started. The buttonholes were so frayed the threads were sticking up all kinds of ways through them and were visible - I cleaned this up but then all the buttons started falling off (in public during performances!) which was really embarrassing to have to explain because people were asking what I did to my shirt and assuming I hand made them...... The neck lines don't sit right even when pinned in place, inside and out. The place where the neckline meets near the first button is completely mismatched and looks awful in photos. I had to put all the shirts away, because its too embarrassing wearing them in public as they are. Please beware with bespoke items- these were very very simple remakes of 2 diffferent vintage blouses I had found at the thrift store. I also provided all the materials, which were quite pricey. These shirts were so expensive because the owner convinced me that she had to make individual patterns for each, which are now unusable because of the necklines. I wish I could get a refund but it isn't possible. read more

I had my wedding dress made by Natalie and her crew. After searching around some wedding dress stores, and some custom wedding dress makers, I had a hard time finding something I liked within my budget. I sent Natalie a photo of a dress I liked, and an example pattern, and she immediately was able to capture my vision. She selected fabrics for me to choose, and made the dress pattern using muslin. Her and everyone else I worked with were very knowledgeable, attentive, giving recommendations and helping me feel at ease at fittings. Scheduling fittings was very easy and flexible. The dress turned out amazing! It wore well the entire night, and I got so many compliments! Natalie even made a tie for my husband out of the same fabric (also got a ton of complements!), and sewed some extra fabric to tie the florals with. I got the dress I wanted for about the same price as a cheaper wedding dress from the store which would have needed a lot of alterations. Ok, sooo Natalie is a superhero with a team of angels. What a supreme find and I'm so so glad I followed my gut and gave this business a try instead of letting the cleaners do the bare minimum on what are now my new fave pants. I'd ordered a pair of pants that were so cute, but just not quite right fit wise. I thought, "I'd eat these pants UP if I could get this giant seat and waist to do what I need it to" (LOL). So I decided, instead of the cleaners this time, to do a little of my search engine research and narrowed it down to two businesses close enough by that I don't have to defy gravity to get to in this traffic-nightmare of a city. After reading that Tailoress Atelier was woman-owned and operated, and has been servicing the area for years, it was an easy choice. Natalie is an absolute expert. Her attention to detail is second to none and the cherry on top is that she's got such good energy. The space is super cute, your appointment is private (it absolutely feels like being fitted for a runway show ) and it's just really nice to do business with someone who is warm and personable (opposed to the very cut and dry transactional personality types). From my first fitting, all the way up to my pickup appointment earlier today, Tailoress Atelier took extremely good care of my needs, with clear communication and expectations, and these are now my absolute fave pants (anyone with a waist smaller than their hips knows the weight of that statement lol). Loved it! I found this place on Yelp and took a chance. They were super efficient with my time and my booking which is something that immediately warmed me to them. They took all the measurements and adjustments and were able to replace the button on my coat on the spot. When I returned to pick up my items and try them on they were flawless. I also was just blown away by how much of an impact it made on the overall look and feel of the clothes. By far the worst service experience I have ever had. After charging over $500 to alter a suit, when I tried it on at pickup the sleeves were down to my knuckles. Fine, adjust it and I will come back. No. They wanted to charge another $100 to do it again. I now need to go to another tailor to fix their shoddy work. You don't get to charge for your mistakes in any industry. Absolutely awful staff. Extremely unprofessional and rude. Avoid at all costs. This is my first negative review of anything but it was actually that bad. I didn't even make it to the appointment and I am so glad I didn't. When I originally called the woman I spoke to was so friendly and super helpful. The day of my appointment I had an actual emergency and was going to be 15 minutes late. When I called to explain they refused to see me. I even offered to show up for the remaining part of the appointment and book a follow up. But instead the woman I spoke to was EXTREMELY rude and harsh, practically yelling at me until I actually cried. I brought in a pair of pants to get slightly hemmed on the sides and bottom and it cost $300 total. until I mentioned the price to a friend I had no idea that $300 is too much for a single pair of pants. once I got home from dropping the pants off (about 2hrs later), I called to cancel the order and get a refund. they refused to refund me even though I had only placed the order 2-3 hours before calling. they made me feel like it was my fault for not speaking up after being measured and told the price, clearly taking advantage of my politeness--saying that I had enough time to decide if I wanted to get them hemmed while I was getting measured. extremely unhelpful customer service, and was only offered store credit instead of a refund. since I wasn't planning on getting more of my things tailored, store credit was useless-- leaving me to just go with the order anyway. I understand paying for the time it took to measure me, however not even a partial refund for pants that at the time weren't even started on yet is bullshit. I believe in supporting smaller businesses and I admire all of the young people working here, but $300 for a single pair of pants is just not affordable for most people. there are plenty of more affordable places in the lower east side, i recommend looking there first. read more

I absolutely LOVE Tailoress Atelier -- I have taken multiple unusually designed items to them over the last 1.5 years (pants 3x too big, previously altered skirts, etc.), and each time they are able to retain the original construction of the garment, while sizing it appropriately. Most recently I took them a Romeo Gigli skirt from eBay that had been taken in by the previous owner and they were able to return it back to its original construction. I took a men's wool blazer and dress pants to be adjusted (taken out) by Tailoress. The quality of the adjustments is simply outstanding and better than any other tailor I have ever taken formal clothing to. The blazer and pants I purchased were several sizes too small for me (I got them on sale and crossed my fingers that they could be taken out) and the ladies were able to make both fit.
