My husband and I were craving Indian food while in Rio and we were so glad we found Taj Mahal! It's got a classic, traditional Indian restaurant feel. We were starving and ordered all the classics. - Naan (4/5) - thin and crispy, came out warm - Tandoori Paneer Tikka (4/5) - Loved this. The paneer had a great flavor and a choriander and a tomato chutneys accompaning it - Chicken Tikka Masala (4/5) - My husband got this and said it was favorful and creamy - Paneer Butter Masala (4.5/5) - This was my main. Hate to give this place only a three stars as it has some positive qualities. The ambience is very nice and they do have a proper Indian chef. However the food itself was just ok. You may be an Indian looking for a little bit of home on your trip to Brazil. However even though you will satisfy part of your age you will not be completely satisfied after leaving this restaurant. The stand out was the paratha, the rice, and the Raita. Everything else were curries and they all tast d very similar. D far as spice levels ar concerned, it's super mild, but they do have a very spicy habanero sauce that was a critical accompaniment. I likely won't be coming back here again. read more

I was looking for a place to take my family to try proper Indian food and I found it. The place is cozy and easy to find, the staff was friendly and the service was quick. The food was great! We ordered the classics: lamb masala, naan, samosas and basmati rice. Plenty of food for three for a reasonable price. I contacted them before going through their Facebook fanpage and they replied right away with the menu. Will return for sure. read more

I have eaten Indian food all over the world but this is the only time I decided to leave this place after eating one bite. Curry was smelling bad.seems like it was in the refrigerator for weeks. I Vish I could give less than 1. I went here with my friends, expecting some good Indian food. Good : ambience and location. Bad: food quality, taste. We ordered Veg Kolhapuri and Palak Paneer. Both the curries were very old. The Kolhapuri was smelling like sitting there for so long. And Palak Paneer has lost its taste and color. Really bad quality of food. Honest, flavorful indian, the only indian restaurant in the south zone of Rio. The garlic nan is great, they have a proper tandoori oven. Any chicken or paneer curry are great, never had a curry here that tasted old like the other reviews said. Ambiance is great and staff very polite. This is where the indians that live in Rio go to, I always see lots of indian families here. read more

I generally don't do reviews but I wanted too for this one. We waited in Neighborhood for 2-3 hrs as we were excited to have dinner at this restaurant as it's only Indian restaurant in Rio. All great reviews but the food was bad.. the curries was like cream and masala that too non edible. I have eaten Indian food in Argentina and Europe and can tell from good to bad but this was worse. Basic curries they can't handle. I understand the craving for Indian food but this is waste of time and money. If you go order rice , Raita and nan , stay away from curries. Go to Swadesee Thai in Rio instead much better read more

Walked in and the hostess looked at me as if I was homeless. Had a reservation and were seated at a table in the corner that wasn't easy to get in and out of. The kebab appetizers were awesome; rich and flavorful. What followed was rather disappointing. The rogan josh was average at best and the butter chicken was tasteless. I doubt it even had any salt. A dish doesn't have to be hot to have flavor. Rather disappointing considering it is Rio's premier and possibly only Indian restaurant. read more
