BEWARE is the best advice I can offer after two experiences with TALO. This is what I have learned to expect from them: They will be late. On the first move, they were 3 hours late because a driver had called in sick. That can happen, and I thought it forgivable. Two years later on the second move, they were 4 hours and 40 minutes late. Again "a driver called in sick". Apologies were offered on both occasions, but that did nothing to mitigate the exhaustion experience by this senior caused by a 9-hour moving day for a 550 square foot space. They will lose something. On the first move, vacuum cleaner attachments went missing. I didn't notice this until the next day so too late to report. On the second move, two woven baskets and a 3-foot silk plant went missing. This I noticed and reported within an hour of the team leaving but I received only repeated assurances of how important my concern was and how "Our top priority as your go-to home moving company is the protection and safety of your possessions". Nice words, no action. There will be damage to something. On the first move, it was minimal. The leg of a dresser was loosened and bent and the frame of a folding table was slightly bent. On the second move, there was damage to a leg on each of two recliners, a chip out of a wooden kitchen table, and slight damage to the finish of a TV stand. Again, I was far too tired to notice these things before the team left, so too bad for me. The team will be friendly and personable. Fairness demands that I report the good as well as the negative. Justin and Jason were both very pleasant to deal with and are good ambassadors for TALO. This is the first negative review I have ever posted in any circumstance but conscience dictates that I alert unsuspecting potential clients of the pitfalls that I met with on two separate encounters with Take A Load Off Moving Ltd. read more

Don't ever us this company on a long weekend! Their regular people call in sick and they scramble to find any warm body they can. Doesn't matter if they are experienced or brand new to moving, the replacements are the worst movers I've ever experienced. I've had numerous moves for over 50 years. The company appeared to be competent and well organized professionals but moving day was the worst ever. The "manager" threw the bosses plan out the window and did as he pleased. Many antiques were damaged. It took them 12 hours to load drive 5 minutes and unload. I could go on but I'd like to forget this experience. Just don't hire them on a long weekend. read more

Showed up 1.5 hours late causing me to miss my ferry and finally arrive for a reservation made for Kamloops at 3 am. Unbeknownst to me I was giving some loading instructions to a man who was on his very first move. Paintings were manhandled, and with specific instruction on loading vitally needed supplies for my trip east ( I am a heart patient) I found instead of being available the necessities were bound up into the rest of the load. There was weeks of notice given for this job and lame excuses provided for the inability to show up on time. If this is the best Nanaimo has to offer, I suggest, like another reviewer did, that you seek help from your friends. Moving is one of the most stressful things that we ever have to do, yet TALO (Take A Load Off Moving Ltd) helps to truly take a load off of any moving concerns that you may have. Not only did TALO impress me with their can do attitude and professional level of services, they Impressed me as wonderful people. It is people who really make the difference. Starting with Rebecca who took my order over the phone, I was impressed with her attitude and efficient help. When Justin and David arrived on moving day to begin my move, I was again happy to experience easy communication and a professional moving experience. They also made this a fun experience because of how they interacted with both me and my partner ... and also with each other. They began their day at 5:15am and did not get back to their shop till around 8:30pm. They worked hard and lifted some very challenging furniture. They did all of this with smiles on their faces and left both me and my partner with smiles on our faces too. My review is 100% accurate and the truth. Moving day, Dec. 30th,/22  the guys were supposed to be at my apartment at 11:00am, they walked into my apartment at 8:00am. I said to them, what the frack are you guys doing here, the appointment was for 11:00, look at my sheet they said I have 8:00am, Your time is wrong. I lived on the second floor, 10 feet from the movers elevator. I had moved everything from my apartment to the movers elevator, except for 15 boxes, which I was going to move to the elevator, before the guys showed up 3 hrs ahead of schedule. I had the elevator booked at my new apartment in Campbell River between 3- 4 pm. So these moving guys were taking their time to load the truck. It took them 2 1/2hrs to load, they could have loaded in 1 1/2 hrs. So 1 1/2 hrs @ $120,00 = $180.00 To unload it took longer because the distance from the truck to the elevator and from the elevator to my apartment it took them 3 1/2 hrs. So total hrs to load and unload took 5 hrs @ $120.00 = $600.00, final bill 7.25 hrs @ $120 =$870.00 = $270.00 difference. So this one is even better. Travel time from Nanaimo to Campbell River is 1 1/2 hrs, return travel travel time is 1 1/2 hrs for a total of 3 hrs  So 3 hrs @ $120.00 = $360.00, final bill 4.75hrs @ $120.00 =$570 difference $210.00. Adding hrs beyond the actual hrs on a final bill is called padding, this is fraud, and is a sign of GREED. If they do this to every customer, it adds up. The mover who prepared the final bill, I got into an argument with him regarding the cost. I paid the bill and said to myself, I will recover what is owed to me. Total cost for a one bedroom move was $1,702.00, way too much. If you, family or friends have retained this moving company in the past two years, check your final bill. You have up to two years to file a claim in small claims court. I emailed them a week ago, asking for  credit of $390.00. No response. Their response to my review may not be the truth. P.S  Skyler, one of the movers asked me at my old address, "is this your paint poll" I replied yes. It was brand new. Well it is not at my new address. Even their employee's steal from you. AMAZING! Right from the initial phone call for a quote and information about a move, to the moving day, my experience with Take A Load Off Moving was fantastic. The point of the contacting a moving company was to move our piano and boxes. I provided photos and details of the piano; where it is in the house, how to get it out, the slope of the driveway etc. The customer service rep advised we would need a 4th person to accomplish the move of the piano. He adjusted the quote and I let him know that was fine and agreed to the terms. I also told him we had a couple beds, some other furniture and a lot of boxes as we were moving out of a 5 bedroom 3 bath house. Again, based on that information, the terms of time needed to complete the move were laid out in the estimate. Come moving day. Your crew arrives...with 3 movers, not 4. When I asked about moving the piano, I was told it could not be done with only 3 people. They explained they would need to call the boss, the 4th guy had a funeral...pretty much made every excuse possible not to touch the piano. While this was taking place, nothing was going onto the truck. The crew spent a good half hour standing around. After getting fed up, I along with two friends..so keep in mind that is 3 people, moved the piano up to the driveway as your crew stood around on their phones and watching, but I will touch on that more later. The 4th member of the crew showed up out of the blue. I have no idea, when he was contacted. Your crew did take the piano and get it on a cart and into the truck, and got it down and into the garage at our new place. They also refunded the heavy moving fee. As far as the other items, after the initial walkthrough , there was a lot of complaining about how much there was to move, how they were not told it wouldn't be this much, how this was going to be a 7 to 8 hour move, etc. The big items made it onto the truck, but many of the boxes and other items did not. In the end, I would say about half the house was moved. We had to scramble to get the rest moved with the help of friends. As I stated above, there was a lot of time wasted by your crew. My wife, stepdaughter and I witnessed your crew members, standing around, checking their phones, and vaping. One guy even stopped to have his lunch...all on my time. To say I am dissatisfied is an understatement. I expected so much more from professional movers; men who were ready, motivated, and eager to help out and get the job done. What we got was a crew of 3 (eventually 4) where there was much complaining about the work that needed to be done, and a lot of time standing around, vaping, eating, drinking, checking phones, etc. I do not feel I was given the level of service I expected and paid for. You charged me almost $1,000 to move about a quarter of my house. How much money will I get back for the half hour it took to get the piano out of the house while your crew took a break from loading anything. I expected to fill the truck you provided. When your crew just stopped, it was a quarter full. I am sorry to say I will not be using your company in the future, and I will not recommend your company to anyone. We have also advised our realtor of our experience and she too will not be recommending your company to any future clients. read more

So who out there likes to move? No, I didn't think so. The stress of packing, changing contact info, cleaning etc. etc. Just to make it that much more interesting, there was a monsoon the day of the move. Not just rain that makes you consider moving to higher ground, but wind that was knocking out the power. Along comes two young gentlemen from Take A Load Off Moving. You sort of brace yourself for the worst but boy was I wrong. These two fellows got to work right away and had me out of the old place in an hour less than I had estimated. They worked their tails off. They were both polite, well spoken and professional. What? Movers? Yes! Through all this horrible weather they never complained or stopped. We hired Take a Load Off Moving to unload a C-Can into their truck and then to deliver and offload into our new town home. They showed up on time and were ready to work. They were careful, informative and completed the job in a timely fashion. I highly recommend them to anyone needing professional movers. They also bought back the slightly used blankets wrapping the furniture that the original moving company refused to accept claiming we might have bed bugs! I contracted Take a load off moving to move my house items into storage on Apr 20. ( that day they didn't show up and had excuse the drivers car wouldn't start)Then again from storage to new residence on May 03 2018. During these moves I have 2 damaged beds, a box spring, cracked tv, and damage to wall. I have called and left over 20 messages to Brandon. The company has various excuses on why he cant call and after 2 months I am still have had no resolution. read more

I have never had such an unprofessional experience. The workers came wearing clothing with numerous profanities. Mishandled my furniture, and broke several items. On top of this, I heard complaints about how they get yelled at for sleeping on the ferry while on route to mainland jobs! I strongly recommend finding another moving company. It's been a nightmare dealing with them. One of the movers made an inappropriate and discriminatory comment, and the company ignored it (didn't even apologize). The company underquoted (and since this move was paid for by a third party, I had to pay the difference, and the company knew that when preparing the quote), and when I brought this to their attention, the response was "We didn't realize you wanted us to stop work when we reached the amount quoted." Several items were damaged during my move, and I contacted them immediately. I waited nearly two weeks without even an acknowledgement that my correspondence had been received (during which time, I also left voicemail messages). After submitting photos of damaged items, the company offered a $25 gift card to Subway. I will have to litigate in order to obtain a reasonable resolution. Lastly, the company removes any comments that aren't glowing recommendations and blocks the person from their fb page. Fortunately, they cannot remove reviews. read more

We were very satisfied with how TALO handled our recent move. They were easy to book with. On the day of our move 4 friendly guys showed up on time and got right to work. They were careful with all our belongings but got the job done quickly. I would not hesitate to use them again. read more

I am incredibly disappointed in the fact that I have made several attempts to try and obtain a quote for a move for the past two weeks and have had virtually no response other than "we will have someone contact you". I requested a quote on November 3 and have yet to have a response from this company. Evidently, they are so overwhelmed with business that they don't need anymore Sad! read more
