This is a great full service range. They sell various weapons, ammunition, targets, etc as well. A group of 11 of us came in together (with advanced warning) to shoot. Many of us had our own weapons, some had to rent. Tom gave us all a short lesson on shooting, which was helpful to all us, no matter what our expertise level was. They are very safety conscious which was nice. The lanes were all clean, well lit and everything was in great working condition. Great place to shoot! read more

During a recent visit to Sarasota, God's waiting room, I decided it was the perfect time to rent a pistol and introduce my 11-year old to the joy of target shooting. This is something I can't do in New York City because firearms are a privilege only for the police. And felons. Until this point in time, my son's experience with recoil was limited to video games and a BB rifle - which is to say he had no experience with it. I opted for the Ruger .22 to gently introduce him to the concept. No need to freak him out with the bowel-liquefying concussion from a .45. We found Tim to be very helpful. He was great at easing my son's borderline-neurotic fears about going deaf from the noise. Tim had him try on ear protection until he found something he liked, and we added some foam earplugs to boot. At Tim's suggestion I loaded only one round into the magazine at a time for the first several shots. We eventually worked up to a full clip. In short order we found ourselves needing another box of ammo. And another. And another. The boy was hooked. I have to say, it turns out the boy's a pretty good shot at 20 feet. We'll be prepared in the event we're ever attacked by paper silhouettes. read more

Have been using this range on and off for the last 20 years. Have always found the owner and staff to be very accommodating and friendly. Very clean facility and far better value than the "big name range" just up the road. Allows me to use my reloads (as that is all I ever shoot, unlike the other range). No frills ,but everything I need. The only thing I would like is a little better lighting at the 25 yard distance as I shoot at that distance quite often and some of the lanes it seems a little dark down there. Will keep shooting there as long as I am able and continue to give them my business. read more

I would give 4 stars, as this is not a bad range for target practicing and learning for new shooters. But, the store could do a better job at merchandising items for gun owners. Many hooks and shelves are empty or very low, not a very good selection of products which causes many to go on line or to competitor shops near by. The guys behind the counter are more interested in hanging out there then walking the floor, straightening things up, stocking or asking people if they need anything. They just wait for you to approach them at the counter. A while back some friends took the veritas ccw training class taught by Mike Magowan at Take Aim. This guy has a short man's complex as he starts out with, "if you don't like swearing or foul language you can leave my class right now." This guy is a poor example of a professional teaching newbies about CCW. He spends more unnecessary time talking smack and BS then actually getting to the training. It takes this guy 3 1/2 hours to get through all his BS. And, he will make anyone in the class feel uncomfortable and uneasy as he is outsponkenly rude, condescending, unprofessional and gives the Veritas Training Academy a bad name as an instructor. He truly needs to attend anger management classes to get a grip on his attitude and rudeness to people in his class. CCW students could care less about your tough guy attitude and Nepolian complex, just teach. There is NO reason he needs to use fowl language to the ladies and minors in his class other then to intimidate and pretend to be a tough guy even to the men in attendance. LOL. The way he treats people in class is very disturbing especially for those with PTSD or anxiety issues, or to those who have been assaulted who are there to learn how to carry properly. Mike, shut your mouth, act like a man, stop the smack talk and just teach about CCW. When you open your trap and swear to get your message across, it shows you have an inferiority Nepolian complex. Mike also slams students weapons of choice and pushes his personal preferences without taking into consideration, his classes are mostly women who cannot use a 44mag, 9mm or a 300 blackout type weapons, Many prefer smaller calibers for a variety of reasons so shut your mouth on slamming what types they prefer. You are not there to convince them to buy something they will have a difficult time using just because it works for your milk house hands. Respect people. Be courteous. Stop swearing. Be professional. You'll go farther in life. read more

Nice folks. Very friendly and family owned atmosphere. Only downside is minimum distances. I do a lot of close quarters drills; failure drill, dot torture, 5x5, etc. but minimum yards for pistol is 7 yards and 15 yards for rifle. So this range didn't fit my particular needs. Plus they only reserve 3 lanes for rifles so I would imagine that there's always a wait. Stapler for targets was a nice touch from the usual binder clips and tape. read more

New to the area, I was referred here as a great place to shoot and talk with knowledgeable staff. Couldn't have been more wrong! I always look to support local or non big box companies if I can. I walked in today looking for ammo. I left with disappointment. At the counter we're 2 younger males and an older male. One young male was on the phone with a customer, one young male was on the laptop the older male was sitting on a stool. All 3 watched me walk around the store aimlessly while looking for ammo. I'm sure I looked confused as the store was oddly arranged. Not one of these men greeted me, stood up or asked if they could help me with something. I walked up to the counter and asked where I would find the ammo. The younger male looked up from his laptop and said "nope" just "nope" the older gentleman looked at me and said "nowhere" ... ok, I laughed a little thinking they were joking around. I said, no, really, I need ammo. The older male kept staring at me and said no we don't have any. I then said ok, where can I get some? The older male and the male at the lap top looked at each other and said I don't know. I told them I was new to the area and repeated myself like maybe they were really joking, I mean you work at a shooting range that sells fire arms and accessories and you are carrying yourself... where to you get your ammo I thought to myself. The older male looked at me and said do you have a smart phone? Puzzled, I responded with a yes. He looked straight at me and and said look it up like everyone else. I was floored. I said well thank you, that's the oddest response I've ever received for customer service. Here I am looking for my new local go to and I have to be patronized by Daryl and his brother Daryl. I walked outside started heading home and saw a flashing sign that said Shoot Straight. Wouldn't you know, literally about a mile across the street. Guess what they had ammo, expensive ammo... but they had ammo and you know what else they had? Friendly customer service. For that alone I will never return to Take Aim and I will refer anyone who asks my advice on CCWP classes to go all the way up to Gibsonton and see them at Tampa Tactical for excellent customer satisfaction worth the 1 hr drive. And if someone asks for a local shop to make purchases or a shooting range, I will refer them to Shoot Straight. I am asked often due to my career, so I make quite a lot of referrals. I promise you this, don't walk in to this establishment and expect a warm welcome, or knowledgeable staff. read more

Best shooting range in the area! Everyone was very knowledgeable on any questions we had. They have a large selection of accessories for guns, and other apparel as well. The lanes were still in great shape, even since I haven't been here in almost 8 years, they still looked new. I can't wait to go back as many times as possible. Visiting from out of state and always want to hit a range while on vacation. With no time limits getting in is a crap shoot during the holidays. You have to wait and wait. Loud, Messy and crowded with several deep per booth. Space to load and store gear lacking if crowded. With so many people they really needed someone in there at least to keep the floors clear. Yes, between the three people I talk to one was helpful and had no attitude. One gentleman gave my sister in law and I doubtful attitude on our experience even though she's military and both have carry licenses. One older lady was plain out rude. Short and snappy Prices are good, grab a groupon if you can. They have them all the time. Check gun rental for cleanliness. All in all its you regular small town range in a large city that needs updating. read more

Are they still in business? Went to go shooting on a Friday night signs on building and internet say hours are open until 9pm but, place was locked up tight. Very disappointing no signs on doors explaining anything. You'd better call and check before you a drive over there. read more

Great indoor range We have been members for a few years now and staff is always friendly and helpful.

I stopped going to this range due to the short stocky jerk that works there. Actually yelled at me for picking up my own brass. told me once it was on the ground it was his brass. He did this by pounding on the glass from the viewing room and yelling. Have not been back since. Sad thing is most of the other employees are nice. read more

Very friendly and professional staff with lots of guns for sale. You can rent any gun and shoot for fun. Or try a certain caliber before you buy. Can get permit course here. My only complain is that inside where you shoot is not very sound proof. Shots just echos, you leave a bit stress because of the noise, but overall recommend it. read more
