Winslow Pride - Weeds & craters

First & most obvious thing that needs to be addressed is the title of this place. PRIDE????!!!! If…read morethere is anyone in Winslow or any other town, village, county or province that is proud of this place they need some sort of behavior modification therapy and/or prescribed drugs to assist them in joining the rest of us in a little town called REALITY. 2nd - it's a parking lot behind a gas station w/ NO signage, dirt roads (not even gravel) w/ huge crater sized dips & uneven RV sites over run by weeds & God knows what (could see, we pulled in very late), which are poorly marked. Bugs everywhere, mostly natts & small green crickets. No 50 amp hookups, spaces were tight, lots of freeway noise. My instinct told me to run for the hills, but my husband was so tired from several 12 hour driving days, so I decided to bite the bullet. However, I told my husband not to hook-up to their water supply. No Sir!!!! It just didn't feel right & I didn't want to subject our beautiful class A 35 footer, we call her Queen of Sheeba, to whatever was in their pipes. Besides the electrical, we dry camped for 6 hrs in a grassy/weed riden parking lot for $22 & dumped in the morning. Just a side note, I heard my husband outside while he was hooking up. A gentleman approached him, complimented him of Sheeba's good looks & asked if he was sure he was in the right place. Not joking. I got the feeling that most of the folks their were full timers, other than the truckers parked towards the front. All that said, wasn't the worst place we've ever stayed for the following reasons: heard more freeway noise at another campsite we stayed at a few days ago - see my review of Kansas City Jellystone Park in Lawrence, KS, didn't smell anyone smoking cancer sticks or hear anyone partying & we were not subjected to an ant infestation - see my review on Selma Lakeview RV Park in Selma Alabama. However, there is no way to justify giving this place more than 1star. See attached pics.

Because I hadn't heard anything via email or text I was forced to call asking where my money was!! Unacceptable behavior!! Also, we believe there are cameras everywhere in this park based on a phone call we received when we were doing laundry telling us we cannot park in the spot next to ours when the place was basically empty. This place tends to treat you like a child. They are NOT respectful. And to them, the customer is always wrong. Chris and Amanda are not professional. And, Chris, said nothing after every thank you, I honestly couldn't believe it. RUDE is what he is. The noise level is high here due to the vicinity of the train tracks and the interstate. They also own and run the Meteorcrater park which is interesting to see, but skip the gift shop as everything is overpriced. Also, they don't give a senior discount or any other discount for that matter. Just find another RV park to stay at, or just park your RV in the parking lot of the Meteorcrater park, check it out, and leave. We do not recommend this place and we will never return or recommend to friends and family. Save your money and skip it!!

It has a dog park, clubhouse, laundry facilities, store and gas station... price was great as well: $71/night. All RV parks should be this nice! One thing I would recommend is to have the laundry moved to the clubhouse so people can do their laundry past 6 pm

Cute groupings of mules and/or donkeys meandering on the landscape in groups within the park boundary. I love animals so that is always great to see! It was an uncrowded park and truly very beautiful. The Visitor Center, where you go to register if you are planning on camping, was very educational and the park employees we spoke with were both extremely friendly, helpful and informative. We did the driving tour, where it takes you to the 3 ruins. We got out at each stop to walk the paths and continued listening to the excellent tour on our iPhones. Much to learn about those ruins and the people who came to make it their home. The campground was well kept up, power, water, waste station, and sweet views. There were also bathrooms on site for tent campers. I felt very safe there. I loved the peaceful open space with lots of wind, sun, moon and friendly campers. Highly recommend! Suggestion: Make sure you take & drink plenty of water because it's AZ. and temps can be extremely hot in the summer. PLEASE RESPECT the land you are on there- do not under any circumstances disturb the sites or take any pottery chards. Stay on the walking paths and be respectful of this sacred place. Enjoy your visit!

Second impression - how could such a sophisticated culture live in such a desolate area? Yes, there is water nearby, but the vastness and isolation of it all is intriguing and astonishing. This vast 4k acre area is a preserve, research and archeological hub, of a more than 1,100 to 900-year-old Hopi civilization, and holds an overwhelming amount of specimens of Pueblo/Hopi debris, pottery and dwellings paraphernalia. At an estimated 4,900 feet above sea level, your 360° panoramic view of the surrounds and plateaus below to the far horizon are nothing but spectacular, miles and miles of nothing but desert. The small yet well-endowed and instructional little museum offers a great insight of what your surrounded by at Homolovi Ruins - and the staff are exceptionally nice folk. It is a terrific starter before going out on your own to encounter southwestern antiquity at its most natural. As a whole, this is a unique, intriguing and instructional excursion into the realm of the past when taken and that will never be forgotten.
