Got a "Van Camper" spot, for electric reasons. Hoping for some green grass to pitch a small tent, enjoy a fire, and relax. No grass. Just mossy rocks. Firepit looked like it was built by 10 year olds. Picnic table top was 1/2 rotted away. Just turned around and left. Disappointing they would even rent such a crap spot. Emailed them...no reply. I stayed at a small cabin years ago, and it was fine. Don't want to bash them, but this site was awful. Be responsive to your customers. read more

No staff in sight when they are needed. This place needs massive renovations. Anyone and everyone can stay here and do as they please. There are no quiet hours, no respect between campers and no staff to offer assistance. If you are a drunk and disorderly group looking to party all night and scream belligerently over the music you're blasting until 5am - this is the place for you! read more

This campground is a tired and in need of repairs. The main road around the campground was very rutted. Getting around even in our SUV required vigilance. Since there were no reservations for the night when we got there, we were able to pick our site. Because of the rough road, we chose one closer to the entrance. The site needed some care ( mow the weeds at least). The picnic table was falling apart. Site 21 was quiet. The bathhouse was closed due to COVID. There were a few porta Johns around the campground. read more

I stayed at their field campsite which was clean, huge, open. I loved the campsite itself, mostly quiet except for vehicles on the main 40 rd. Haven't had to use the showers or portalets so can't say what the condition is. drove slowly because mostly gravel road and potholes throughout the site. Candy is at the front desk, very personable and knowledgeable, checked me in like she did last year. i camped out here again the following week. arrived with no reservation in the early afternoon, thinking that i could just make one when i arrived but there was no staff on-site. i pitched a tent but it was too late for online reservations for the day so i made it for succeeding days then called in the morning. i was "helped" by jennifer who put me on hold several times and i had to repeat myself a few times and start all over. she said that the campsite i'm in was reserved for the night i was there and the next. those campers did not show up and the campsite was pretty empty, i was told to move to another site anyway... they never showed up. anyway, make a long story short, i drove up to the wilderness voyageurs office and didn't hesitate to ask how long jennifer's owned the campground (because she certainly is bossy and rude). i was very fortunate that chelsea was there to step-in, give me a break and resolve the mess. she's very helpful and pleasant. i guess she'd witnessed the disservice i'd been dealing with! a friend who used to camp here shared his experience. he made a reservation for a few nights then had to cancel because of an emergency. the owner, eric, refused to give a refund reasoning that the campground needs to make money! TIP: if staying here, may be best to make reservations on a per day basis keeping in mind the NO REFUND policy. if dealing with issues, chelsea and candy are very helpful. read more

The best campground I've been to. Our site was HUGE for the amount of people we had (12). They had a small convenience store on site (with ice, which is important), delivered firewood and didn't care much about noise. Highly recommended and ideal for a group looking to have fun. read more

This is the best place to camp near Ohiopyle. It doesn't usually fill up too quickly and the rates are reasonable. Facilities are fairly basic, there are a few pavilion campgrounds and some RV sites with hookups, can't speak to the RV perspective but it's a great place to tent or hammock camp. read more

Have stayed here with a group several times in the past few years. This year, I could definitely notice that the upkeep of the place has substantially gone downhill. The roads to the campsites are almost impassible and our car was bottoming out constantly. Apparently this area of PA is like a rain forest and between washouts, deep holes, mud, and sharp rocks, it's a wonder every camper's vehicle isn't destroyed by the experience. The old wooden bathrooms used to be nice (as nice as wooden pit toilets can be.) They used to take particular care of the ladies' outbuildings and as an arachnophobe, I was always pleased that most of the spiders and webs were cleared out regularly. This year they were infested with spiders and lacking in TP. They added Porta-Johns and if not for them being nearby and clean, I'd have used the woods before stepping into the little shop of horrors again. It was also raining during our stay and by the end of the 18 hours of rain, the lake on the road between our site and the ladies facilities was almost impassible. So much mud surrounding who-knows-how-deep puddles made me regret drinking/eating so that I'd even have to try to navigate to the rest rooms. And all the while a big pile of gravel ready to be spread is sitting uselessly near the front of the grounds. Although I had fun with my friends, camping and driving around in Tall Oaks this year was more work than it was worth. The owners will never keep business if campers can barely reach the sites without destroying their cars or if the critter-squeamish in a family nix it because of the hairy spiders occupying the only ladies rooms. It wouldn't take much to keep this a nice place to camp like it used to be a couple years ago. read more

I have been coming to Tall Oaks Campground for 33 years for an annual rafting trip down the Youghiogheny river. The campground is huge and it offers a variety of sites (wooded, open, field, group, sheltered). However, the maintenance of this campground has been ignored. The picnic tables are falling apart and need to be replaced. More tables need to be added to some of the larger group sites. The portable toilets need to be emptied more frequently and more toilets need to be provided, especially for larger groups. Finally, the roads to each campsite needs to be improved as many of them are washed out. The owners of Tall Oaks need to invest in these improvements as they will begin to loose customers. read more

My wife and I recently stayed at Tall Oaks Campground located in Farmington, PA. Their website shows it as being a family friendly relaxed and inviting campground. They also have quiet hour rules that state "Quiet hours are from 11 p.m. to 9 a.m. Radios must be off during this time and voices should not be heard beyond each group's campsite. Loud radios are not permitted at any time." (Taken directly from their rules page rule #3) I would like to warn anyone that is thinking of staying here that they DO NOT enforce their own set rules whatsoever. My wife and I were at Tall Oaks Campground for two nights and both nights we were kept up until at least 3AM by the loud yelling, extremely loud radio and fireworks that were coming form other groups of campers. After the first night of this happening we thought they would have said something to the groups that were causing the problem, but they did not as the second night was even worse. The noise levels was absolutely ridiculous. We attempted to contact the office about the noise AFTER 11PM and until at least 3AM but there was never any answer on the phone and no one in the office. My wife and I have stayed at campgrounds across the country and we have never been to a campground that so blatantly disregards their own rules. If you are looking for a nice relaxing family friendly campground Tall Oaks Campground is NOT the place you want to stay. I would honestly never recommend Tall Oaks Campground to anyone, it was the worst campground stay we have ever had. The only reason for 1 star is that there is no way to give them 0 stars. read more

I found this campsite after our traditional site was booked, and I have to say, I'm so glad that happened! My husband and I typically look for the private campgrounds because of the less stringent rules than the state parks, but have not had a lot of luck with finding sites that had enough space. Tall Oaks has SO MUCH SPACE. Regardless of your group size, they have sites to accommodate, and even being next to some sites with large groups of people, we never felt like we were on top of anyone. If you value privacy, and you didn't go camping to make friends with other people you don't know, this is the place for you. Unlike some other places I've been, the ground was clear of most debris, the sites were relatively flat and absent of gravel for good tent camping, and the fire pit wasn't just a small iron ring chained to a picnic table. Lots of grounds perfect for wandering if you're bored during the day, and so close to Ohiopyle with plenty of hiking and other outdoor adventure activities that you'll always have something to do. I've read some reviews that talked about noise complaints, but I have to say that that's never been my experience. At most, you could hear murmured talking and/or muffled radio from other sites, and we camp primarily at the height of summer camping season. The ownership seems to take a "we're all adults here" approach to night-time management, which I appreciate, as I feel over policing of the grounds takes away from the experience. My suggestions to those who would like it to be quieter are A) Go to a state park, or B) Just take the time to talk to those causing your discomfort. Anyone I've ever met there has been perfectly reasonable and courteous. All-in-all, excellent experience, and I can't imagine going camping anywhere else! read more

We found this place completely by accident. Our usual spot was booked. My husband had promised to take me camping, so he let his fingers do the walking through the yellow pages. I must say, I was very excited and pleasantly surprised by the privacy and size of the sites...much larger and more private than Coopers Rock or Chestnut Ridge in WV (our usual choice). We like a more primitive setting. Yes, there are pit toilets and port-a-johns, which are probably frowned upon by most city folks. But, my camper has a toilet. :-) We camped after Labor Day, so there weren't very many campers. The pool looked nice, and I'm sure it would have looked better if it were swimming season. We had no need to check out the shower house. There is no need to travel outside of Fayette County to find a secluded, spacious, and wooded camping site. The only possible thing that could make it better, would be to have a few site along a fishing stream. The electric/water sites are limited. That's the only reason I would give this place 4 stars. We will definitely become frequent campers here. Another plus...it's open year round. I read a review complaining about lots of noise far into the quiet hours. I heard from another camper, that college kids love this place. So, if that is a problem for you, camp in the spring, early fall, or brave the PA winters. read more
