(I know, I know, I'm lamenting on the beautiful charm of the staff in Bhujon) The basic starters were good, mixed kebabs with salad. Always a winner. The waiter was rushed and abrasive when he served the meat, so there were glances going around the table by this point. Unfortunately the main courses, Bengal lamb and sylet chicken were odd, and bland. My friend was hesitant at giving her opinion and did not want to be rude, but when later she spilt some of the curry sauce on her purse, her response of "Now my purse will smell of that awful curry", pretty much summed it up! It has potential, but every restaurant needs to make you feel welcome, or you'd just order takeout. Not sure if I'd give it another go. I'm not great at dealing with spice, so curries are pretty much off my menu. However, being a loving girlfriend I accompanied my boyfriend when we had a craving for it. And I was actually really glad that I did. The restaurant itself was really nicely kept and furnished. The waiter was lovely and the delivery of food to our table was so speedy. I had said, apologetically, that I really wasn't good with curry and when they brought my food out it had the most deliciously mild warmth to it. Obviously, for curry lovers that's not great. Opted for the King Prawn Saag (spinach dish) and steamed rice and it was delicious. The decor is fabulous: LOVING the blue water cubes inlaid in the walls (they made me feel all sunny and bright!) and the table decor is clean, simple and stylish. The staff were friendly and very polite; no one pushed us to order a starter or a side dish, which is a bug-bear of mine (has anyone else been to an Indian where you feel like a criminal if you don't order starter, couple of mains with loads of sides; a mountain of food you can't possibly eat? I hate that). In the middle of our dinner, the staff also proved their mettle by dealing compassionately with a tricky situation involving an older couple who were very drunk and falling down. The staff showed genuine concern for their customers and called an ambulance while my friend picked the lady off the floor, sat her on a chair and talked to her until she calmed down. After the couple had left, every waiter came and genuinely thanked my friend for her assistance. All-in-all, I was impressed and I'll definitely be going back. I want to try some more dishes!

Chef Anand George has had massive success since setting up business in Cardiff in 2007. In 2008 he won both the House of Commons Tiffin Cup and the South Asian Chef of the Year. In 2009, Mint and Mustard became the first Indian restaurant to be named 'Best Indian Restaurant' and 'Best Restaurant in South Wales' at the South Wales Echo Food and Drink Awards. With expectations high, the place could easily have been a disappointment - but the food was divine and the service was excellent. I had the veggie Bombay Chat for starters, which is full of interesting flavours, and the delicious Allepy fish curry for main course, which is flavoured with coconut milk, ginger and mango. They also serve up some really interesting desserts, something which most Indian restaurants are hopeless at, so it's worth leaving some room for something sweet. One choice is an exotic, delicate Rose Petal Crème Brulee, and another is a Tandoori pineapple with saffron and fennel. Mint and Mustard deserves every bit of its fine reputation - and now its neighbouring sister restaurant, Chai Street, also offers a cheaper, more informal daytime Indian eatery where you can enjoy authentic breakfasts and lunches.
