The office set up is super cute and bright my kids enjoyed it they were also playing Cocomelon on the tv which my toddler LOVED and I appreciated as well! Judy greeted us in a very friendly and welcoming manner. She was also super sweet and friendly over the phone when I called to schedule our appointment. She was so patient with my highly active one year old and played with her as I shuffled all my things along with a newborn. She was such a big help and I'll never forget that. I felt relieved not feeling judged or rushed while I was there and this was all before even meeting the doctor! Dr Rivera is amazing as well. My babies responded to him so well. He is very knowledgeable and sweet, friendly, not intimidating and judgy which is everything I was looking for in a new pediatrician! In addition to medical services they have access to a lot of useful resources that parents of young children could use. It feels like family every visit and I'm forever grateful for them being my babies' medical provider! If I could give them more stars I would because 5 doesn't seem enough!

She is now four, and my younger son has also been a patient since birth. We stayed with this practice for years because we genuinely believed in what Dr. Rivera said he wanted his practice to be: quality over quantity and a place where patients and families mattered. Unfortunately, our experience over the years has become completely different. There have been ongoing issues with the office staff being rude and dismissive toward me as a parent. One of the issues that initially caused frustration was that the office repeatedly got my son's gender incorrect. When I corrected the information, instead of simply acknowledging and correcting the mistake, I was met with an attitude from the staff. Mistakes happen, but the way a parent is treated when bringing a mistake to the office's attention matters. We have also had ongoing difficulties with insurance issues and scheduling. Rather than feeling like the office is trying to help families navigate these things, we have repeatedly felt like we were an inconvenience. The situation that ultimately resulted in our children being dismissed from the practice was especially frustrating. I completed all of the required paperwork for my daughter's appointment. Instead of someone from the office calling or emailing me to explain that there was an issue with her primary care provider information and giving me an opportunity to correct it, I received a random text message stating that they could not see her because the information was incorrect. I responded and explained that this could have easily been resolved if someone had simply contacted me and asked me to correct the information. I received no response. The following day, my husband called the office and was told that because of my "attitude," they no longer wanted to see either of our children. Think about that for a moment. My daughter had been a patient there since she was a newborn and is now four years old. My son has been a patient since birth and is now almost two. After years of bringing our children to this practice, both children were dismissed because the office did not like how I addressed a problem that could have been resolved with a simple phone call or email. What is even more disappointing is that we previously had respect for Dr. Rivera and his vision for the practice. He often spoke about wanting to be different and prioritizing quality over quantity. Unfortunately, our experience has been that the quality of the overall patient experience has gone significantly downhill as the years have gone on. When patients repeatedly raise concerns about the office staff, it is incredibly disappointing when those concerns do not seem to be taken seriously. Now, even obtaining our children's medical records has become unnecessarily difficult. I requested the complete records for both of my children. Rather than providing a complete electronic copy of each child's records, I was told that I could individually download years' worth of documents from the patient portal myself. For a family that has been patients for four years, that can mean an enormous number of individual documents to download. The biggest issue for me is not that mistakes happen. It is the lack of communication, professionalism, and willingness to work with parents to resolve problems. We trusted this practice with our children for years. It is extremely disappointing to go from feeling like valued patients to feeling like our family is simply unwanted because we spoke up about problems we were experiencing. I would strongly encourage parents considering this practice to pay attention not only to the doctors, but also to how the office staff communicates with and treats families. The experience we had is very different from the practice we originally chose years ago.

Their "medical records department" has given us no confirmation or contact. They refuse to give us any contacts or path other than "repeat what you've done". ONE MONTH of requests and calls (they refuse to give any emails) so we can't even document a digital paper trail. Their practices have created terrible stress and ARE PREVENTING OUR NEWBORN FROM GETTING HEALTHCARE! This office says "it's completely out of our hands" but they have another part of their company that has provided no answers, no accurate timelines, and no confirmations of anything received or sent.

Dr. Hosemann is caring, professional and communicative. She is patient even with my one "wild" child. I am always able to get a sick appointment the same day, usually with Dr. Hosemann, although a few times we've seen other docs who are just as good. She knows the community, so when you need a referral to a specialist, she can point you in the right direction. As for the office itself, it always seems to run on time (I'm not sure how they do that, because it seems like they spend the right amount of time listening and assessing). The office is clean, well run. The nursing staff are great and make even the shots okay--my children claim the shots are painless. The administrative staff is awesome and most of the them seem to be there long-term. I've never had a bad experience and highly recommend them as an excellent place for healthcare in the Brandon/Valrico area.

My daughter had a (butterfly rash, purple hued dusky knees, red knuckles and had lost use of her hands) group of weird symptoms. She had a rash and I had already scheduled a future appointment, but the achy hands before the 18th she had been icing herself, this is the date she could no longer close/fist her hands. My mom thought was, "she hurt her wrist/hands in gymnastics." Not even thinking any of this could be related. To make a very long, sad, hard story shorter, we came in to see Dr. Kanarek on the morning of the 19th of June. He literally took one look at my 10-year old beautiful baby girl and says she needs a specialist immediately. "I see Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus or Juvenile Dermatomyositis." I start to shake and react like a parent with fear. We left the office in about 45 minutes, Dr. Kanarek had already reached out to Specialists at All Childrens Hospital and was confirming a morning appointment on the 20th. We were admitted immediately after a chat with the specialist. No overnight clothing or preparation, we spent 3 nights at the hospital. Our daughter had Juvenile Dermatomyositis, she is part of a 3 in 1 million group of patients. Without this keen observation on the part of Dr. Kanarek, I fear we would have lost my child. Diagnosis average time is 17 to 18 months and by then most children suffer heart and lung damage or suffer paralysis of joints or muscles. She has this and it is an Auto-Immune Disease for life, but she is alive and has no permanent muscle damage. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE read‼…read more 12/9/25 I took my baby to her 4-month well visit for vaccinations and ear piercing with Dr. Evan Layton. During the appointment, Dr. Layton told me my baby could start eating puréed vegetables and that she should be sleeping alone in her room. He advised me to let her cry and not check on her until morning. As this is my first baby, I was not comfortable with that advice. After the nurse administered her shots, Dr. Layton came in to pierce her ears. He was extremely rough, stating my baby would not stay still. After the piercing, my baby cried uncontrollably. Her eyes became puffy, and she could not be soothed. I stayed downstairs in the lobby for over an hour until she finally calmed down and fell asleep. Later that evening, while undressing her for a bath, I noticed dried blood under her arm. This raised serious concerns for me and explained why she had been crying so intensely. I questioned whether she had been injured due to frustration while she was crying and moving during the procedure. Fast forward to 12/29/25: I brought my baby back because she had been sick since Christmas. Dr. Layton stated he needed to hold her nose to listen to her lungs, which seemed very strange to me. While examining her ears, my baby began crying and moving. During the exam, he knocked her earring out, causing her to cry even harder. He then put the earring back in. At that point, my baby was screaming, so I picked her up. I then noticed the inside of her ear was bleeding. I asked Dr. Layton why her ear was bleeding, as that was clearly why she was crying so intensely. He stated the ear is very sensitive and apologized. This was unacceptable to me. First, the earring was knocked out during the exam, and then the inside of her ear was injured to the point of bleeding. Dr. Layton stated he would prescribe ear drops to prevent infection. I immediately left the room and requested to see another doctor. I also obtained contact information from the front desk to file a formal complaint. My baby is only 4 months old. There is absolutely no reason she should leave a doctor's office injured. This situation is completely unacceptable. I am beyond upset and will not let this go. My baby will never be seen by Dr. Evan Layton again. If you have infants or children who cannot advocate for themselves, do not take them to Dr. Layton.
