We met Ronn & Marketa for the night tour at an accessible & central meeting spot in Fairbanks, as we were staying ~20 min away. Ronn drove the comfortable van while Marketa analyzed satellite data for cloud coverage and predicted the best places to see the aurora. We saw brilliant aurora from the moment we arrived in our spot for the night! I brought my own DSLR and my partner rented a camera; we loved the guidance on how to photograph the sky. Marketa also took stunning portraits of us. From the get-go, their communication was outstanding. The Aurora Chasers website fully prepared us for what to buy/wear to stay warm in -40 to -20F weather. If you're interested in seeing the Northern Lights, I highly recommend taking a tour. My partner and I were not equipped to drive on icy, snowy roads late at night and to navigate weather data on our own - Ronn & Marketa made it possible for us to experience clear skies and thus vivid, magical aurora during our trip to Fairbanks.

Having a little bit of DSLR experience, I needed a tour company that didn't just drop me off into a warm hut with hot chocolate, but someone with photography expertise to help me operate in the raw elements of Alaska. I did my research with ALL the local Aurora companies. The Aurora Chasers are the only ones with professional educational videos of Aurora photography on YouTube, have an Aurora cam on their own very easy to navigate informative website. You can also rent cameras and tripods in advance from them. While on the way to a remote area with a beautiful private view to catch the Aurora, they educated us on everything about the Aurora. They played videos on a big screen inside the tour bus, which they produced themselves. They provided us information about the Aurora, and very specific instructions adjusting settings on your specific DSLR and cell phone. They have thorough knowledge of canon, sony, and nikon, and cell phone settings, and I'm almost positive they could figure out any other branded cameras. It blew my mind and excited the inner tech nerd in me. I really liked how although they gave us the freedom to shoot as we chose, they always checked up on us if we needed any help with our camera settings, and even provided hot chocolate. There were various people shooting that night spread out on different locations and they managed to get to every single one of us to make sure we were happy and comfortable. Marketa took amazingly beautiful portraits of my wife and I with the Aurora in the background! She got deep in the snow just to get the right angle! Thank you Ron and Marketa!!! You made this our favorite vacation!!!

My kindergartener at the time was being heavily bullied at this school. As far as I am aware of this mostly happened during the breaks. The noon duties are too busy chatting, so they are unable to properly supervising our children. I am still a young parent, so I have lots to learn. I didn't know that elementary kids are that mean.. nor was I sufficiently involved in the whole school thing.. I am too consumed into work and being stresses and tired.. I lost out of sight what really matters. Looking back, that is a huge regret! I thought my son was in a safe place. He was not. Beyond being bullied, he was assaulted more than once. He was pushed off the equipment on the playground and nobody noticed. My son had a concussion. Nobody noticed. The noon duty did not apologize. The principal did reach out... mr Agnaiak is the name, I believe. When I approached my sons teacher about it, the response was "so, are you saying that the duty was not doing her job?" Shy as I was back then, I said no... but I should have said yes. Yes, your noon duties were not doing their jobs. Or my son would not have suffered on your premises. I'm sorry that I took him to this school. And I'm sorry that I was ignorant, I had no idea that sensitive or shy children get no guidance or protection by teachers and just how mean a lot of our children are. You parents need to spend more time with your children and raise them properly! Your kids are bananas! But, yes my five year old have a concussion on your premises.. and he was assaulted by a class mate. A student pushed him on he ground, pushed his face into the snow and sat on his head... my son looked sad when I picked him up, so I asked him what was wrong, and that is what he told me. I approached the duty about it and the only thing she said was "I cannot tell you the names of other students m" or something like that. That was not the response I was expecting, so I did not know what to say. My son told me who the child was, so I told the grandmother that was picked the kid up.. the school would have done nothing. They do a sucky job at protecting your kids!!! I should have known when I was signing my sons up and there was a kid in the nurses room because a student had rammed a pencil into his neck.. oh my gosh.. I know you can't say only bad things about the school.. but a few other things do come to mind. This school needs parent volunteers, the school is sort of out of control of the students.. I don't know what else the problem would be? Thinking back makes me sad and angry. I know I did not speak up back then, when I should have. I was not thinking the right way! But I emailed the principal about this two years ago, and I received no response.. shows how much they care.. Also did I mention to the principal that I watched an elder female teacher pull a student around by the shoulder.. I should have said something too when I saw it back then.. I was just young and stupid. I'm sorry I put my son in your hands. Very. An upset parent of a former student.

We had no trouble finding parking and were thrilled to watch a cross-country skiing competition--specifically skate skiing. The women's final was absolutely spectacular! Later in the evening, we returned in hopes of catching the aurora, but unfortunately, we didn't have any luck. We later learned that an incredible display lit up the sky about 30 minutes after we left--just our luck! UAF is a fantastic spot for winter sports, breathtaking scenery, and maybe even an unforgettable northern lights experience (if you time it right!). It's probably a great school, too.

Since we are two travelers, we didn't have any tubes except two cardboard and it worked out well haha. It was a lot of fun. A friendly local family lent us two of their tubes. That melts our hearts. Forgot to mention there is an outdoor ice skating court to play hockey or just ice skating. You can rent the ice skating shoes in the student recreation center for $3 for the whole day!!!! It might run out of size so make sure to call to ask about your size or come early. There is also an outdoor rock climbing area. It's currently closed. You might need to call the student center to ask about it. The front desk person was super friendly. The parking lot is big. For visitors parking in front of the student recreation center should be safe.
