I was referred to Bertram through a law firm that's partnered with a service called Legal Shield, several years ago, to fight a traffic ticket. Back then I noticed after I provided my payment information during a call Bertram has a tendency to be rude, condescending, etc. He called me back shortly after this call to let me know that he mistakenly wrote down the wrong payment information.
I hesitantly mentioned how he made me feel uncomfortable with his manner of speaking, since our first interaction. He acknowledged his behavior could be better, and then I provided my payment information again, so he received his payment. From there he would regularly reschedule my traffic court ticket dates, and inform me when he had done so. Eventually he attended court of my behalf, where he was able to get a favorable outcome, so I didn't get the amount of points that would cause me to lose my license. Keep in mind that I paid a lot of money for this service, and that was with a referral discount, but had to use a credit card to afford his fee at the time.
Last year I had a traffic ticket issued to me from the police under false pretenses. I used Legal Shield, and was assigned to Bertram again. When Bertram eventually called me he went beyond being rude, and was outright verbally & emotionally abusive towards me. As I attempted to share details of how I ended up with this ticket he kept interrupting me, and speaking down to me. Then he started dictating when & how we will be in contact again so I can provide details on what happened, video-graphic evidence from the incident, and his payment. After this we had one more call, where I attempted to provide all of the info as before, but he kept interrupting me, and speaking down to me. I have a mental disability, and one of the diagnosis is PTSD - which can lead to me being triggered into an anxious state, that is debilitating at times.
Bertram triggered my anxiety to a point that I couldn't speak much after enduring his outrageous behavior. Interacting with him, is akin to talking with a child that likes to hear the sound of their own voice, and is impatient with anyone that doesn't tolerate their poor behavior. After this interaction I contacted the law firm that referred me to him, to report his egregious behavior, and ask for a referral to a different lawyer, but then I got the run around after speaking with two representatives from them. After calling back a third time, and requesting management, I was permitted to speak with them. Management kept trying to persuade me into speaking with him again, but eventually granted me a referral to another firm. From here things became strange, uncomfortable, illegitimate, concerning, and negatively impacted my mental health.
I made it clear to management that I never wanted to speak to Bertram again. After I filed this complaint Bertram stalked & harassed me for several weeks through phone calls that I never responded to, and voicemails that I heard weeks or months after he left them. In 2025 he called me at various times of the day, and left voicemails. Even though I never responded to any of these calls Bertram was leaving voicemails where he spoke in a manner that was not only contrived, but clearly a departure from our last interaction. I presume this was to save face, because he had disgraced himself, and the firm that referred me to him. I highly recommend that anyone considering Bertram to look elsewhere, contact the Bar Association, or take a chance at representing themselves. I have never had a lawyer assigned to me whom behaved in such a disturbing, unhinged, and strange manner. I believe Bertram loves arguing, and understands traffic law fundamentally, but isn't necessarily a good lawyer. My experience with him left me traumatized.
