DO NOT HIRE LEGACY LAWYERS. They left me in a worse position than when I started…read more Hiring Legacy Lawyers in 2023 was the worst mistake of my life. After my longtime partner, the father of my child, and my fiancé passed away, my young daughter and I were navigating the hardest period of our lives. What should have been a relatively straightforward probate became a prolonged financial, emotional, and legal nightmare that affects me to this day. I was the sole beneficiary and nominated executor under a signed, witnessed, and notarized will. Legacy Lawyers--specifically Matthew Stidham and Savannah Andre--dragged my case out for years, charged me over $50,000 of my hard-earned money, and placed us under such severe financial strain that we had to leave California for somewhere with a lower cost of living. * Missed Court Date and Mishandling Matthew Stidham completely missed a probate court date and never told me. I learned about it when the court called me. When I raised the damage caused by his failure to appear, the firm downplayed it. A year and a half later, that exact missed appearance was used against me by the opposing party in a civil complaint. After I pushed for answers, Matthew handed my case to Savannah Andre, a junior attorney. I never agreed to pay top dollar for a junior attorney to manage my case. I was charged while Savannah researched probate law, yet critical paperwork still was not filed correctly. * Failure to File the Will and Protect My Position Matthew and Savannah failed to file the signed, witnessed, and notarized will, even though it had already been lodged with the county. The will nominated me as executor, made me the sole beneficiary, and expressly stated that no bond should be required. Instead of filing the will and moving probate forward, Matthew told me to "wait" because of an anticipated creditor claim. He continued billing me and accumulating thousands of dollars in fees while my legal position deteriorated. The proper course, as I later understood it, was to move the probate forward and reject the Creditor's Claim--not leave the will unfiled. Legacy Lawyers pushed me into becoming a "special administrator" rather than obtaining my appointment as executor under the will. This gave me significantly fewer rights and powers over the estate. A massive bond was imposed at the opposing party's request despite the will's no-bond provision. The bond was based on the value of my jointly owned home, which bypassed probate. Legacy Lawyers did nothing meaningful to prevent the bond or have it removed. By failing to file the will and establish my position from the beginning, Legacy Lawyers gave the opposing side enormous leverage over my daughter and me while I was grieving and newly raising my child alone. * Failure to Protect Me and Potentially Damaging Advice Savannah gave me advice on complex business matters that I later learned could have further damaged my interests. I am grateful I did not follow any of it. Savannah also allowed opposing counsel to contact me directly and subject me to intense pressure and inappropriate conversations. During this period, the opposing side had access to the decedent's digital and bank accounts and located joint accounts belonging to me. I felt completely unprotected while my privacy was being violated. * Leaving Me With Their Mistakes After critical paperwork was not filed and the court imposed fines, Legacy Lawyers pushed me to sign substitution-of-attorney paperwork and then accused me of failing to communicate. That was false. I had communicated from the beginning and came to them with the signed will. They never filed it. The court ultimately filed the will later in the case. I was left without counsel to finish the probate. After more than $50,000 and years of representation, I was no further along than when I started. Then I hired a new attorney, and everything changed. My new counsel filed the critical paperwork, appeared in court, protected my daughter and me, and had me appointed executor as the decedent intended. What Legacy Lawyers failed to resolve over years, my new attorney completed in less than 6 months. That contrast is why I believe the fees I paid Legacy Lawyers were wholly unjustified. I paid over $50,000 and received missed court appearances, unfiled paperwork, a weakened legal position, ongoing billing, and a case another attorney was able to resolve promptly. Legacy Lawyers should refund the money they charged me for work that was mishandled or never completed. My daughter and I are still living with the financial and emotional damage. Run as fast as you can from this firm.

I called and made a consultation meeting a few days later. Melanie was assigned to us as our attorney. Her Team included Adam, Alex, Coby, Maddie and Kaylee. Our experience with this stellar Team was truly exceptional from start to completion and they all were very professional. Acquiring a living trust is a big decision, and the entire team made the process seemless and even enjoyable. Melanie was outstanding, patient with all of our questions & concerns and knowledgeable. She took the time to explain all the details and genuinely made us feel comfortable. It was evident she and her Team is prideful in what they do. This was a first class experience for my husband and I and we would not hesitate to recommend The Meier Firm to anyone searching to have a living trust done.

Going through the probate process took a long time(2 and a half years) partial due to the nature of the courts and partially due to some more uncommon issues that came up. Including an existence of a trust, but being unable to locate a copy including finding the attorney who originally set up the trust and asking if they had any copies. Unfortunately, the trust was set up before computer records were common. Another problem they helped me with was SunRun decided, for reasons we were never able to figure out, to try to shut of service even after I had began the process of transferring everything into my name and was only then waiting on the deed for the house that I wouldn't have until probate was over. Getting a letter saying SunRun was going to deactivate my service for being overdue on payments while in the same letter saying I owed no money and was 0 days past due was confusing and was confusingto every SunRunemployeei spoke to and none could give me answers. Burris Law helped me tremendously with this and without their help I don't know what would have happened in the end. I can't say enough nice things about them. They sent me 2 small care packages during the process and it was really nice to get something positive in the mail during a time when I was getting anxiety every time the mail came. Even after probate has been over for a year they answer any questions I have that come up. Retaining their services was expensive, as it would have been for any probate attorney, and it was worth every cent. When I'm in a better spot I'll be back to set up my own trust with their help.
