Gave them a call, showed up and told them we were looking for a kayak…read moresuitable for fishing, filled out a form and waiver, and they were on their way to deliver the boats to Jane's Island marina immediately. They told us about the good fishing and crabbing spots, where to get bait, and the procedures for an all day rental. They delivered to the marina and tagged with our names, complete with life jackets and paddles. Only complaint was that the front of the kayak was missing a handle so it was hard to carry to the kayak loading area. Otherwise the whole transaction was quick and easy and only 5 min outside of the park. Don't get discouraged by the abandoned store front- the actual kayaks and front counter are off of the main road.

We corresponded both with email and over the phone, so I know that she had our boating needs in writing. When we got to the park, I did not see four kayaks, so I called Billie. She stated that the boats had already been delivered and were by the dock. I told her that the only boats at the dock were two single kayaks and two canoes. She did not offer to bring tandem kayaks. I told her that we would take these, but I was disappointed that we did not get the boats we were expecting. Additionally, the only paddles in one of the canoes was a kayak paddle broken in half with jagged plastic at the ends. Fortunately, the park staff was willing to let us borrow 2 real canoe paddles. Janes Island is a beautiful park and lots of fun to kayak in. We all had a good time in spite of the boat mix up, but I would hesitate to rent from this business again given my experience.

But mostly the surrounding town of Crisfield has definitely seen better days. Most all the storefronts are vacant with not very many places to eat or shop. The marina itself is fine. Jane's Island seems to be known primarily for the camping possibilities. The camping sites, both for tents and cabins, are pretty full during the season. Has a loyal following. Reserve early. Also, fishing is all the rage here. I saw many people fishing from the banks of the water and from kayaks, etc. However, biking possibilities are only average. Hiking is about the same. Crisfield gets a fair number of storms, had a bunch during our visit, and it can affect the grounds, but the area dries out pretty quickly.

They advertise that they are catching Croaker's all over their website. However each time I go and I change it up sometimes I go in July sometimes i went in August and each time I'll come home with maybe about 10 or 14 Croakers. Is that a good catch? I gather if they were bigger slab size then yeah I would say definitely.. I am a great angler even if I have to say so myself. It is a mother nature call I understand that but if that's the case I believe it should be fear these past few years not have caught. So instead of taking us out there for a boat ride why don't you take us out for all the fish that may be prevalent in the waters? I think a good captain and good mates are made of good intentions. So I asked you the question Barbara Ann charters what are your intentions to the good people who travel all the way from upstate New York as well as the good people who travel from areas of Maryland and Virginia to fish with you all? If you already know something is going to be a fluke no pun intended, then you should have a plan B. Let's talk about the crew. On the day I was on the boat last year summer there was I believe it was a parks department or could have been the environment of protection officers or some type of committee that was going around taking measurements of the fish that were caught and recording it. This time I'm going to do a Friday instead of a Saturday see whether or not that makes a difference on the Croaker's and I will be coming in July. I just don't want to get the same old sad story "oh the Croaker's are not here" or "they were biting yesterday" or any of the other fishermen stories that are told. I understand it's call fishing and not catching but 10 to 15 fish each time is not fishing. The crew as mention is great I just wish the fishing was just as great.
