This business is open, NOT closed. It just moved, address here is correct. Paul is great. I bring in photos and he makes it happen on my head! He listens carefully to what I want and works with my hair and face shape to give me a flattering haircut and color every time. He has done my hair blonde, purple, blue, and burgundy and does both semi-permanent crazy colors and permanent more natural ones. He has done color correction when the blue wouldn't come out well, you'd never have guessed my hair had been greenish underneath from the gorgeous results I got. I love the products he uses for color work because they have extremely low odor/fragrance. I'm super sensitive to fragrance in products so this is a big deal to me, I get huge headaches from the smell of hair dye. I never get reactions or headaches from getting my hair done here. I used to just accept the post-hair appointment migraine from Aveda. Not anymore! Another thing I really like about going here to get my hair done is that it is an extremely chill place. Like extreeeemely. I have even dozed off getting highlights done. I never feel pressured to make a bunch of small talk, that usually makes me nervous because I'm just not very good at it. Socially awkward penguin here! I can't stand when a stylist gives you that hard up sell for the products-- Aveda is notorious for this. I always feel so uncomfortable saying no. Paul never tries to sell stuff to me that I don't want. If you want products, of course you can get them, ask for them, but he's not going to try and push them on you. I really like that. Also, this may not be a big deal to anybody else but I really like that the music he plays never drives me crazy! When you're sitting there for an hour or two it makes a big difference! read more

Paul is amazing. Never fails to make me happy, no matter if its just a trim or a full blown color transformation. I have very dark hair and had ombre, that my friend did for me with box dye. I went in today knowing i wanted to get rid of the ombre and go a light brown. Not only did he incorporate blonde highlights for more color and texture but the brown is beautiful!! I LOVE IT. We conferred a lot about my hair. I asked questions, she gave me advice. Most important thing is she actually listened. Kudos to Stephanie for achieving what I wanted for my hair. From the second I walked into the salon I got good vibes from being greeted at the desk with a hello and a smile. The decor is so cute and the products are top of the line I knew I was in good hands. I was looking for a salon that would help me donate my hair for cancer patients, but most salons I visited wouldn't work on me because I didn't quite have enough hair to cut for one big ponytail. The stylists at this salon were willing to work with me by sectioning off my hair into smaller ponytails, and then combining them into one larger ponytail. I am very satisfied with the time and effort the stylist put into my hair, as well as how clean and professional the facility is. I am very satisfied with my new haircut, and I'm sure I made a little bald girl somewhere in the world very happy with all of the hair I just donated. Best twenty dollars I've ever spent. read more

New to Riverside and this salon seemed convenient and in my price range. Made an appointment and got Kelsey. I show up at 10 am, on time, and she walks in the shop at 10:15. While I am waiting the other person in the shop ignores me. Then she props open the door I am sitting next to so that I am now cold as well as bored. When Kelsey arrives she has no apology, no explanation. Doesn't introduce herself, doesn't give any kind of welcome. Haircut was ok and reasonably priced but not as short as I asked for. They obviously don't want my business - maybe I am too old for their taste. Whatever, it's not for me. Maybe other people don't care what the experience is and just want a reasonable haircut at a reasonable price, in which case it's probably ok. read more

I have always wanted to check this out and when I finally did, I was ecstatic! I got a body wave perm, and it came out very nice. I was very happy with my hair and stylist. She was super friendly, and made conversation for the whole 3 and a half hours. She was also very helpful with hair tips, and she showed me how to french braid my bangs. Tried a few places around riverside and neighboring cities...this is THE place to go for a haircut. Most of the stylists have cut my hair and i am partial to Charo as she cuts my wife and kids hair also so i try and stick with her if possible but paul, and stephanie have also cut well. ...probably least satisfied with the brunette girl with glasses but still ok. read more

My friend just got her haircut this week and was very unhappy with the results. She was in tears. She went in for a trim and the hair stylist (not sure of her name) took off at least 3 inches!! My friend has been trying to grow her hair out for quite a while. Be warned, you may get way more length taken off than you ask for! This place is AWFUL for hair styling! Paul is great with hair color, but I came here to get my hair done for a Gwen sterani concert. I showed the girl a picture of how I wanted my hair and my hair looked completely stupid and embarrassing, she did it in like 5 minutes and put it in a basic ponytail. I had to pay $60! I really love this salon and their stylists. The atmosphere is very comfortable and everyone is friendly and professional. In other words they aren't snobby or gossiping the entire time. I've been going here for a few months and Ever since I get so many compliments on my hair and color. The color really lasts and they use quality products. I have crazy thick hair, and I have had more than my fair share of awful haircuts. Between thinning gone wrong and thick choppy layers, I used to be scared of getting my hair cut. Thankfully I found Tangles. No more fears! I'm always happy with my hair when I leave this salon! When I moved to Riverside for grad school 2+ yrs ago, I lost a lot of things that I once took for granted. Among them: my family, friends, social life, and my regular stylist. THANKFULLY, after a couple disastrous encounters with franchises (JC Penny & a nearby Great Clips), this place opened up nearby and once again I was able to arrive at a new batch of regular stylists. I say batch because I've been to nearly everyone in this place and there isn't a bad one in the bunch. Everyone of them is more than competent in their craft. They are creative and very skilled. They don't do the standard "clipper guy cut" that so many franchises push their stylists to pump-out in 10 minutes so they can get on with the endless queue of customers. They listen to what you have to say, and ask questions along the way. The staff is young, but clearly experienced, and the place has a good energy about it. Paul (the owner) is really nice and has remembered me since my second visit. If you want a haircut that is infinitely better for only slightly more than those box stores (great clips, cost cutters, etc.), then look no further. Simply put, this is my home for a great haircut in Riverside and I'll be going here until either: A) I move or B) they close . . .whatever happens first, and hopefully not the latter. I easily had one of the best hair cut experiences of my life here. Paul was really helpful in not only helping me choose the correct style but showing me step by step how to create it myself. I booked an appt. at this salon after reading the good reviews on Yelp. I was assigned a "very" young girl, who although was very nice, obviously did not have the skills to color gray hair. I asked for a soft brown, with blonde highlights and after sitting in the chair for three hours, got home to find that she had missed going deep into the roots to cover the gray. I didn't look any better than when I arrived at the salon. So I went back that same day to show her that I didn't get my $135.00 worth (adding a $15.00 tip), and she said she would redo it. After another two hours, it looked better, but the lighting and design in this salon are terrible and it was difficult to see the results. In the area of the wash bowls, it is so dark, it would be difficult to see the true result of a hair color. Upon arriving home, the top and crown of my hair was covered, but the gray was still showing on the back and sides. I could have done better with a $10.00 bottle of Clairol! If the girl was inexperienced, as I suspect she was, the owner (or manager) Paul was there and saw me arrive back and I feel he should have, at that time, checked on the problem and offered some suggestions to her and an apology to me, which he didn't. In reality, I should have returned a third time and asked to have someone else do my hair, but after sitting in that chair for over 5 hours and driving back and forth, I was done. I consider it a lesson well learned and will never return to the salon again. It's a shame because once I find a good stylist, I'm with them for a long time, I'm a good customer who tips well, but my tip for Tangles is don't go there unless you know you have experience with a capable stylist. read more

I came in for my appointment but my stylist, Stephanie, was not there. I think I got the same stylist as Sita M. did. She cut my hair the opposite of how I asked, in fact, it was not a style but a total mess! I asked for my hair to be shorter on the top and trimmed in the back and sides. This girl cut my hair so short in the back I couldn't get a round brush in it for over a month. The right side was longer than the left and the very back along the hair line was totally lopsided. I could go on but it was the worst layering job ever. I could have done better myself. This was in June and I haven't been back since and won't go back. My husband told me if I step foot in this salon he would disown me for lack of brains, that's how bad my hair looked. I hope this girl didn't cut and style the hair of the wedding party for her brother as I can only imagine what the pictures will look like. I really liked Stephanie but since no one called and rescheduled her appointments so I could request someone I knew already, I just can't spend money for another horrible experience. I can't believe they hired this girl as she said she had only been there a couple of months. Sorry Stephanie, I just can't go back to Tangles. read more
