It has been a long time since I have been diving with Tank-Ha. I live in the USA, and am now 71 years old with some health issues, but when I was in my mid 30s up until about 15 years ago, I went diving a lot. The numerous times that I was at Playa del Carmen, I was diving with Tank-Ha. I am truly pleased to see that they are in business still and from the ratings, are obviously doing a great job. When I was diving, I went to several cenote dives with them and a videographer named Steve from California. He was employed with Tank ha, or at least served their clientele on an exclusive basis. He and I got to be very good friends. I don't know if he is still there, or if he is still even in Mexico, he was about my age. Happened to recently find some of the old VHS tapes that I got when I went diving with Steve through Tank ha. After a dive day, he would take a few of us to his house, serve us beer and popcorn, and show us that days diving videos which we obviously purchased. When I ran across these the other day, they brought back some really great memories and I cannot imagine that the dive shop has done anything but improve. Tank Ha is an amazing dive shop. They care about quality of service and safety is the priority. My fiancé and I did our Open Water Certification and Advanced Open Water with them. We also did a bunch of other fun dives. Cozumel is amazing! Matt (the owner) is very nice and really cares about his customers. He is responsive to all we needed and the dive shop is organized and prepared. He answered all our questions and made sure that we would really enjoy our time. Everything was well thought out and professional. We started out as complete noobies and after our time with Tank Ha, we feel comfortable with our skills to dive on our own. The stand out dive instructor for us is Antonio. If you are doing Open Water, Advanced Open Water, or don't feel as comfortable with your dive skills, I highly recommend Antonio. Ask for him specifically. The other instructors are professional, but Antonio is the best. Antonio is a natural teacher. His approach is very structured, so you learn everything you need to know. At the same time, he is very relaxed, which made us relax and breathe better. Antonio was an Engineer in his prior career before he became a dive instructor. You can tell that he is there because he loves the water and animals. Learning from him was refreshing. I'm a type A person. I'm also a book learner and it stresses me out when I feel like I have a big knowledge gap. Antonio guided us step by step and explained everything without being condescending, overbearing, or impatient. I think that's a really hard balance to find. Some instructors can take the fun out of diving and the classes felt too much like work. Antonio's relaxed attitude helped us relax under water and helped us enjoy diving a lot. On our first dive, I was very anxious and could not for the life of me control my buoyancy. I didn't see any fish (even though we were surrounded) since I was in half panic the whole time. Antonio was very patient in teaching me and reminding me to keep breathing. I've improved so much since that first dive. On our last dive with him, we were in Cozumel. Our deepest depth was 27 meters. I had a horizontal position and felt in control of my buoyancy. Diving is so much fun now thanks to the skills we learned from Antonio. We love diving now. We booked a dive with bull sharks and a cenote later this month. Can't wait!! read more

Great experience and great dive shop! Thank you to Coral and Matt for a fun adventure on our vacation! My boyfriend and I arrived on a Monday and did a pool refresher course with Coral. We hadn't gone diving in over a year and both felt like a refresher would be helpful. On Tuesday, we did a 2-tank dive with Coral and another couple (our friends in town with us) in Cozumel. Before our dive, there was an issue with the boat that we were supposed to take out. We could no longer use that boat, but Matt offered plenty of solutions and worked round the clock to make sure we could still complete our dive. We ended up taking the ferry over to Cozumel, then meeting up with a local Cozumel dive boat once over there (Pepe Scuba). Our first dive was a coral wall called Paseo del Cedral - lots of beautiful coral and tons of fish, no large sea life at the time. Strong current, but wasn't an issue. Our second dive was at C53 Shipwreck and it was soooo cool to swim through the hallways of the ship. We thoroughly enjoyed our dives. We only regret not diving for an extra day with Tank-Ha! The staff is extremely skilled and friendly and they don't overload the groups or boats like other dive shops in town. After looking at some of the available dives, I found I needed to gain my advanced certification and they were able to incorporate it over a few days with some great adventures in the process. Prices were very reasonable and I came out of it with a new certification and fantastic memories! We dove reefs, drift dives, and multiple cenotes. This is a great place to use for diving! They provided personalized service for our group that had various levels of experiences so we all were able to enjoy our diving time. They do dives in Playa del Carmen, off of Cozumel and in some of the local cenotès. We went for dives in playa with great visibility in the morning and a night dive. The cenotès were incredible! All our guides/ instructors were very knowledgeable and patient for me as a beginner diver. The few folks that were more advanced in our group said the instructors were well versed in the local environments and felt safe and thorough through out the trips. We will definitely be using them again when we return to Playa del Carmen. They are one of few dive shops in playa that have a boat that goes directly to Cozumel so a great opportunity to see more. read more

My wife and I are certified divers and we like to dive as much as we can. Unfortunately, there isn't much good diving where we live, so we mostly dive on vacations. I usually scout out the dive shops in the area, read reviews and ask friends that have been for suggestions. Tank-Ha was the overwhelming recommendation. Very professional company, with good equipment, and very pleasant to do business with. Most dive shops are not known for their customer service, but everyone at Tank-Ha was super nice. We ended up bringing along three people that were on the trip with us. They weren't certified, but were interested in getting certified. Tank-Ha does Discovery Dives for non-certified people that wasn't to check it out. $120 for a classroom portion, a pool dive and two ~40' ocean dives. $15 rental equipment package. This was a full day. Morning was class and pool, afternoon was ocean dives. I was impressed with the professionalism for the discovery dive. I had a friends do a Discovery Dive in Cabo. It consisted of a class while in the boat headed to the dive site and a couple skills upon entry. One dive for $150. This place made me (and our friends) way more comfortable knowing how seriously they take safety. My wife and I joined them for the afternoon dives. We had a blast and everyone loved the dives. The guides were excellent. Visibility was good. What more could you want. Tank-Ha also does Cozumel and Cenote dive trips. I wish we had more time. read more

My dad and I have been solely diving with Tank-Ha since we have been living in playa for the past 4 months and I am so happy that we picked them!There are many different scuba diving shops in Playa but after 4 certifications and getting to know the amazing staff over the past few months we love our diving family. I had a fantastic experience with the staff and diving with the Tank-Ha dive center. The diving in that area is definitely world class and they have the equipment, staff and knowledge to help you make the most of it. I felt like they were always suggesting the best options considering my diving experience, what I wanted to do and how the current conditions and weather might effect those options. They came up with a great plan that wasn't the easiest (or most profitable) for them, but it was the best for me. I can't thank them enough for looking after me so well. I did my advanced open water training with them. What I liked most about their training is it's set up "a la carte". You have many options on how and where you dive to complete your training unlike some other shops who have more of a cookie cutter set approach to training. They also have their own dive boats, which gives them more flexibility of where and when to dive. Plus it saves hours instead of taking the ferry when diving at Cozumel. The front office staff Matt (owner), Ximena and Carolina are very knowledgeable, professional and have such a friendly laid back style they make you feel like you are a good returning customer the first time you meet them. I did my AOW training in Cozumel with Spyro. He was a great instructor. He taught me so many new skills and showed me so many fantastic areas in Cozumel. I had the best time and it was by far the best diving I've ever done. Cozumel is a must do if you are in the area with Tank-Ha of course. After the AOW training I did 3 Cenote dives with Karolina. She is another great, friendly, knowledgeable dive guide. Cenote diving is very unique and special. It's another must do dive experience if you are in the area and have a desire to do something unique and special. There are probably other good dive centers in the area, but these guys are great. I have been diving since 1974, and I can truly say that Tank-Ha is one of the best dive centers that I have ever dove with. What I look for in a dive shop is 1) Safety; how safety conscious is this shop, 2) Professionalism of the staff, 3) Quality of the equipment (even though I have my own, the quality of the rental gear tells a story), and 5) Attitude of the employees. I'm really happy with this shop. There are a lot of dive shops in Cozumel and Playa but this one stood out to me. Everybody at the shop speaks excellent English and the entire staff is well trained and knowledgeable about the local area. They worked very hard to give the dives I wanted, which was a challenge because the harbor master shut us down for most of the time I was there. In the end they took me out by myself and let me store my gear there between dives (and I never once worried it might walk off). The boat was in great condition (not always the case in Mexico) and easily handled the unusually choppy water. They way I look at it is like this, Playa has a ton of dive shops and this one is a little tucked away, but it's a PADI 5 star shop. So they must be doing something right to draw divers away from the main part of town. read more

We are in Playa and in search of full face snorkel masks. We found some just off 5th ave near the Hurley store. They wanted $149 usd and tried to tell us we'd fit in Large, they only had XL and XSmall. We went and looked here instead. They were $119 usd and we found we both needed a Small which they had two of. We felt they were a very honest and a friendly shop. Highly recommend!!! read more

Whether you're an experienced diver looking to take in all the awesome dive sites near Playa del Carmen, looking to try out scuba for the first time, or wanting to add another PADI certification card to your wallet, Tank-Ha Dive Center is the place for you. I promise that you will NOT find a more professional experience in all of Mexico. It's clear that owners Matt and Spyro care about providing the best experience for all of their customers, and their team is trained to have a focus on safety (as should always be the case in scuba), education, conservation, and providing a personal experience. They also have among the best maintained and quality gear of any dive shop I've ever visited. All that on top of reasonable prices (quoted in USD and converted based on the day's market exchange rates - no commissions or funny math). Now, about the actual diving. For perspective, I am AOW certified and had 49 dives coming in. I was fortunate enough to spend 2 wonderful days in Playa del Carmen diving with Tank-Ha, while also picking up a Nitrox certification (they offer free Nitrox for certified divers!). I went on the famed Bull Shark dive at Shark Point (25m, deep dive training required), just off the beach very near the shop, and got to swim with these pregnant beauties (they're huge! But with divemaster/instructor Coral's info/safety briefing, it wasn't scary). And I love that Tank-Ha doesn't bait or feed the sharks or fish to attract them, preferring to only observe. For the 2nd dive of the morning, the boat captain found us a nice spot for a drift dive at Moc Che (shallow) where we saw all kinds of wildlife - a bunch of morays (green and spotted), rays, lobsters, a huge barracuda, a ton of other fish, and a turtle! On day 2, I did my first cenote dives ever! Wow, what a unique experience. We did The Pit (30m / 97ft), and Tajma-Ha cenotes. Both feature a halocline (a surreal delineation between the salt and fresh water layers in the cenotes), which is otherworldly to swim in and through. There are tons of stalagmites and stalactites that formed eons ago when the caves were dry, making Tank-Ha's conservation-inclined diving practices all the more important. The Pit even some broken pottery left behind by the ancient Mayans. Tajma-Ha cenote is connected to several other cenotes via underground rivers, and we were able to make our way through the circuit, coming up to see bats hanging out (literally) in their caves. I had never done anything remotely close to cavern diving before, but was comfortable due to the professionalism of divemaster/instructor Devin, who was patient and accommodating. If deep dives aren't your thing, there are plenty of shallower reef and cenote dives, as well as wreck dives and the lovely multilingual staff at Tank-Ha will take care of you, whatever your needs. There's even a direct boat to Cozumel, which I will need to check out next time! read more

My wife and I visited Playa the first week of January. It was our first trip there and didn't know what to expect. I contacted several dive shops via email before going and one, Tank-Ha, contacted me back and said they would prefer to talk on the phone to help set up the dives to our liking. I gave my phone number to Spyro who called and got things going. The original plan was to get our Advanced Open Water with 4 dives on Tues, 2 on Wed, and 2 on Thur with Friday off and fly out Saturday. After meeting at the dive shop and doing our first dive, my wife got sea sick. She vomited several times off the boat. The crew and our dive master Irati were exceptional. They did everything they could to make my wife comfortable. After returning from the first 2 dives my wife decided that was enough for the day. We spoke with Spyro and he was able to accommodate our changes to do 2 dives on Friday to make up for our schedule change. Everything was done professionally and they really are people oriented. It was very comfortable for my wife and me as new divers. We dove in Dos Ojos a cenote with Sofia and had a wonderful day. Sofia was a pleasure to get to know, very courteous and absolutely fun to be around. We will be returning to Playa very soon and will be booking with Tank-Ha again. I would recommend them to anyone.
