A cozy Japanese restaurant serving shareables, teppan dishes, okonomiyaki and ramen, situated in the Five Mall shopping area outside of downtown QTN. It was a rainy, coldish evening -- conditions which made ramen an easy, sound choice. Two bowls were had, a different rendition of their "Tokusen" Ramen each. I selected the Shoyu, adding on Tonkotsu pork bone broth (2 NZD) and extra noods (3.5 NZD). On its own, 27 NZD for a base bowl of ramen is VERY high (though my USD made this seem more affordable). Pork belly slices were succulent, broth tasty, but noodles were like spaghetti which was a bit strange. The extra noodles were offered on the side and totally not necessary. I simply forgot that the night wasn't a carb loading night. Whops. When in a pinch for Asian food, Tanoshi is still not a bad choice. read more
