We got the rooftop and it was a great vibe up there. Also, I tried my first pisco, which was fun. My standout was the scallops with the Parmesan foam covering it. It was so good and the age of the Parmesan added a nice touch. The octopus was pretty tender a little bit fatty, but I loved the seasonings in the rice. It's like paella. Lamb chops are really soft and tender. Not pictured is the ceviche which were all really fresh as well.

Located on the rooftop with shaded and unshared with umbrellas dining room tables. Seating is limited. I enjoy the independence day party for $100 all you can eat and two drink tickets at 12p. There are tasty native non alcoholic options. I was disappointed the live entertainment started after I was leaving. Luckily one of the managers said I could stay for 15 more minutes. The live band, singer, and dancers were very festive. Last year the entertainment started around noon and I brought three peruvians and a girlfriend. The show was a huge hit last year. I was sad that the 3p reservations included live entertainment and not the 12p reservations for the same money this year. Its a bit unfair.

Went for an early dinner on a Sunday, it was not busy at first but filled up pretty quickly. Hip and fun ambiance inside. Some tables are pretty tight together, so be sure to ask for separated table and seats if you wish to have more space. Staff were friendly, however not very attentive throughout our meal, hence the 4 stars. We ordered a little bit of everything to share and try: cebiche, empanada trio, lamb chop, arroz marisco and desserts. Portions were generous and goof for sharing, we ended up with some leftovers to take home too. Overall a delicious experience and would recommend!

Came in here, a few weeks back for dinner with some friends. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate, so we could not take advantage of their really cool looking balcony. From the beginning, our server was very attentive and walked us through the menu. She gave us several suggestions on dishes to order that would complement each other. Also strongly recommend or during the chips; everyone's food will come out as it is made, so it's nice to have something for everyone to share to begin with. Interior was really neat, and the music was not too loud or too quiet either which I always appreciate. We had several appetizer dishes, as well as the arroz Mariscos. The only thing I did not like about this place was that the food all came out a different times. The other couple that we were with had several of their dishes before we had anything. We did order chips to split at the table, so it's not like we had nothing to eat, but I feel like when restaurants bring things out as they are made, it lends to a weird dynamic between two different couples if you were ordering together. That being said, our food came out not too terribly long after the other couple's. Overall, great time here, and delicious food. Would happily come back!

A Peruvian gem tucked away in River North. A nicer, casual restaurant with a Latin atmosphere. The presentation was gorgeous. Service was fantastic and the dishes were tasty and filling. We only got a couple of things, but I'd like to come back soon to try more of the menu!

My first experience of Peruvian food! This dish was so so so good. Stumbled upon this place while traveling and I'm so glad we did. Will definitely be seeking out Peruvian cuisine more often back home.

My friend chose Tanta for Restaurant Week 2026 dinner and I'm glad she did! Really good Peruvian food & drinks. We had a reservation and they seated us right away - it's always a little tough to rate service during RW because it's usually quite busy and not a typical night but all the servers were very nice, we just had a slow start and there were a few times we were missing silverware but not a big deal. To start, I was glad to see they also had a pisco sour flight deal for RW and that was a big yes for me. It was fun to try the different flavors, but the classic was my favorite. I also tried a sip of my friend's guava cocktail, which was very tasty too. For food, they offered 4 courses starting with shrimp ceviche, which was *mwah* chefs kiss. Followed by the duck dumplings, which I also really enjoyed. I did not care for the fish katsu main but that probably comes down to personal tastes as it was overwhelmingly too tomato-y for me. However, redemption was served in the form of the lucuma brownie for dessert. We also ordered the octopus for the table to split and it was plated beautifully and cooked perfectly! There were many ingredients in the dishes I had not heard of or tasted before, which made this a unique dining experience. I would happily return to try more of their regular menu, and definitely recommend if you like Peruvian food. Just note $$ can add up quickly if you're ordering multiple dishes and drinks. And at least on a weekend night, music is a little loud and ambiance is quite lively. Cheers!

Tanta offers authentic Peruvian dishes and drinks with a great menu. Offering a variety from the Peruvian liquor pisco, ceviche, empanadas, and other authentic dishes. A very warm and vibrant atmosphere that has colorful decor. We had reservations for Sunday morning which I would recommend. The staff and service was great and a great place to go for a special occasion.

Came to Tanta with my girlfriend and we had a ball!! The service was immaculate, and drinks were flowing and delicious. Then we had the anticucho de pollo and it was sooo good! I followed that up with the chaufa aeropuerto and baybeeee whew! The rice is perfectly cooked with savory veggies and doused in sweet chili sauce. Love that, it's was so dang good. I'll be back

Best meal ever. Service was amazing, we had a group dinner with a custom menu. Every single dish was absolutely amazing. My favorites were the stracciatella, chaufa aeropuerto, and cebiche clasico.

I love when restaurants offer a tasting menu, it takes thinking out of the equation and lets you sample their best dishes. A couple of months ago, we got to try their summer tasting menu and it was divine. Every course was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented, and we left with our bellies full and happy. I ordered their birthday special for my daughter and they came out came with a colorful 7-layer cake, sparklers, and sang to her. They even a printed photo of us to take home afterwards. Such a thoughtful touch that made the celebration extra memorable. Service was great from hostess to our server and everyone else for that matter! Reservations are necessary. I'd highly recommend sitting on the rooftop if you can, it's such a charming setting with string lights, bougainvillea flowers everywhere, and views of the city. It really adds to the whole experience.

We came here for dinner on a week night. We were going to see if we could get in, luckily they have just a table for us! Once we sat down, we were created by our waiter. He explained that Tanta serves elevated Peruvian cuisine. He gave us the menu, and asked if there is any dietary restriction or allergies (yes, one of us is Celiac). He then explained that most can be modified but not the fried ones due to cross contamination risk. When we placed the order, he was very diligent to note that the dishes should be gluten free. He also came to confirm after checking in with the chef. We did change one dish. First, there's a good list of cocktail, but also spirit free. Both food and drink came out relatively quick. We opted for sharing plates. Everything was flavorful, and cook to perfection. I would recommend to check out Tanta for a special night out or try out Peruvian cuisine. Make sure to talk to your wait staff as they do give good recommendations.

This should have been a 5 star review. Lots of part of our experience here for dinner were 5-star caliber. This included the food and drink, the fantastic service by our waiter, Swan, and the ambiance and music. The rooftop experience and the happy hour offers were also nice options. But a few things took away from the overall experience. When we were seated, a woman came to our table - I assume a hostess since she was not dressed like any other staff - and asked us whether we preferred still or sparkling water. Of the options she gave us, we chose still and got bottled Saratoga water. It was only later while we were eating, I noticed everyone at adjacent tables had tap water poured for them by staff. So I asked our server if still and sparkling were our only water options. He said they were not, and regular water should have been offered. I explained we were not given that information, and he removed this from our bill. But I really wish I knew the name of the woman who mislead us about this, I would definitely called her out to management. The other thing was the bussing staff. We were constantly asked if we were done with our plates, even if there was still some portion of food on them. This felt like it was every 60 to 90 seconds. It certainly wasn't for lack of plates in the kitchen, during our 90 minutes (allowed) there on a Friday night, the restaurant was never more than 2/3 full. Would I come back here? Absolutely. And knowing what I know now, next time I'm sure it will be a 5 star experience worthy of an updated review. At least it better be.

Do they offer the tanta experience prefix every night or is it just one day out of the week?

When we went a couple of weeks ago, it was in the everyday menu. It is realy worth it, great experience, as in any of Gaston's restaurants. It was a lot food for two at a great price.

Dinner menu serves lunch time too?

No, the lunch and dinner menu are slightly different.

    What is the dress code?

Anything goes. Chicago is a very casual town, as most places are these days.

The case had gone cold--or perhaps mezcal-hot--until we received a clue pointing us toward River North. Ghost Donkey is spacious, colorful, and full of energy, with plenty of bar seating and tables. The music can get loud, but it fits the atmosphere perfectly. The bartenders were constantly interacting with guests, swinging the lights, encouraging the crowd, and turning the entire room into a neon-lit fiesta. They do have a food menu featuring items such as tacos, nachos, quesadillas, and guacamole, but we mostly came for the drinks. Many of the cocktails are tequila- or mezcal-based, which is exactly what we enjoy. The menu is creative, the drinks are strong, and the bar does an excellent job making agave spirits approachable--even for guests who may not consider themselves mezcal experts. After two drinks and an argument with a decorative donkey, we finally found the missing spirit hiding behind the bar. He was translucent, smelled faintly of roasted agave, and appeared to be carrying a tiny map. We followed him through a glowing hallway, down a staircase, and into a secret chamber where he revealed the legendary piñata of Quetzalcoatl, the ancient feathered serpent god. Naturally, we attempted to break it open. Instead of candy, it released a cloud of mystical dust, three lime wedges, and a receipt for nachos. The ghost donkey brayed with laughter, the lights began swinging, and the entire bar erupted in applause. The bartender handed us another drink and told us this happened all the time. Ghost Donkey is a fantastic place to hang out, pregame, and enjoy inventive tequila and mezcal cocktails in a lively setting. Just be warned: you may arrive looking for a ghost donkey and leave having helped recover an ancient Mexican god's piñata. That's simply the sort of evening this place encourages.

Good happy hour spot or place to go for a few drinks after dinner!…read more No reservations and it can be a long wait but if you're able to get there close to 4, it's usually not too bad. There are also a lot of great places to go right nearby to have a drink while you wait for a spot to open up. Service is pretty good, drinks are amazing. I am unfortunately addicted to the White Russian, it tastes just like a milkshake. The margarita and cosmo are also great. There is one drink discounted each day for happy hour, a great deal IF you're interested in the drink chosen that day. Ambiance is great, especially during the fall/winter. My only complaints: 1. The price of the wine - a glass of wine is $20! I get they're more focused on cocktails and want to push you in that direction, but I am the type of person to have one or maybe two fun cocktails, then switch to wine. The way the drinks are priced I'm more likely to have a drink or two at Gus' then continue the night elsewhere (thinking about it now, maybe that's what they want...). They do have beer for $8, but I just wish they had a more low-key drink at a reasonable price, there are only so many White Russians I can have in a night!! 2. The food options - they certainly have some fun and interesting items on their food menu, but I'd enjoy a few more classic appetizers. Stopping in for a few drinks after work, I'm not always in the mood for crab Rangoon dip or a dipped sandwich... I pretty much always end up getting the fries (not a fan of their pretzel bites or cheese curds), but I wish there was another staple to choose from - maybe sliders or flatbread/pizza? Overall, this is a great place to go and I will certainly be back many more times. But let me know if you get $10 wine or some different apps on the menu
