The owner…read morehas collected all sorts of bits and bobs over the years - from a life-size Sinatra cut-out to a surfboard and stuffed ferret - and crammed them into the pub - on the walls, hanging from the ceiling, in every available space. You may even find yourself sitting at a table that doubles up as an old-school sewing machine! You'll be entertained merely from gazing at the mesmerising array of curiosities - I notice something new on every visit. Added to that it's a wonderfully cosy, comfortable place with a real local feel despite its prime location. It's a wonder to me that it doesn't get over-run with the Clapham crowd - perhaps it's too "out-there" for that. Either way I'm not complaining, I love the POW POW POW (as it's neon sign proclaims) exactly as it is, although I must say Christmastime is best there - even more decorations! And I must mention the pizza: this is a new addition to the pub and used to be the menu at the Rose and Crown across the road. Oregano, a local pizza delivery now serves pizza on request at the POW and the quality is amazing - real wood-fired style with interesting toppings. My fav is the Funghi.

Hackney has a funny mix of pubs, both classy and not so classy, and both sides of the spectrum have there advantages. The advantage of a place like the Cock Tavern, is that you don't have to deal with a pretentious crowd. The place is often very quite and is a bit of a locals bar. It has a kitschy English pub interior, complete with the dark, cave like atmosphere. If it was my place, I would let as much sunlight in as possible. It is definitely an alright place to have a quite drink with a friend, but not worth going out of your way for.

As most people would agree to, the view is very charming-just by the Thames river in Richmond. It is situated next to The White Cross (a pub I can never get a seat at-cry cry). The waiter was a very nice and attentive Welsh guy who kept us happy and laughing! If only I could remember his name ... : / I ordered the peppercorn steak with chips which is standard but satisfied the stomach at the time. Their cocktails are usually good so we had a few which were 2-4-1, can't beat that. S&L is a good place for groups and for watching a match but this particular S&L didn't have the upbeat environment of it's other chains such as the one in Uxbridge.

The two dishes were served with a napkin between the plates and I kindly asked for more napkins and the waitress said 'I'll bring you some more'. In winter there are long tables and benches covered by the brutalist concrete eaves and a cheese menu at the bar. Inside there are comfy Chesterfield sofas and chairs. Great casual vibes. It has quite a continental feel to it, and I can't believe I didn't immediately spot the massive vats at the back - I was too busy admiring the statues on the bar. And it's difficult not to be tempted by the selection of beers when in a brewery and I didn't regret my choice of Achtung. They also serve food and while the main menu is limited to sausage rolls and pies you can also order pizza or sushi which is delivered directly to your table by local takeaways. Their Early Doors IPA was always likely to be my favourite, but I also enjoyed Dark Matter, 2 O'clock Ordinary and their Weissbier called Achtung! Good brewery. We stayed long enough to warrant some food. The burgers looked delicious, but we decided to go for 3 snacks for a tenner. This meant we could both have a snack of our choice and also share some chips. I enjoyed the luxury fish fingers! (No Captain Birdseye here!)
