I came back around the time when craft beers were starting to gain some traction. So I had to look for these places! There are a lot of restaurants that sell Katipunan Craft Ales. They even have a stall at The Legazpi Sunday Market. My favourite would have to be Liberation. I first tried this out at Barley in Quezon City. Since then, I've been obsessed. Never mind paying P200 a pop as long as you get really good beer - and an IPA to boot! I do like my beer hoppy! I am really loving the craft beer revolution that's been going on for quite a time now. Totally understandable, BUT the staff should have mentioned that to me to set/manage expectations. They didn't. Bad anticipation/foresight and lack of staff training. OR, have really good operations and get all sushi orders out in good time. Lesson: if there's a big party going on when you walk in, take note of slow delivery of dine-in food if you're going to order. Or, don't order sushi at busy times. For those nights when we would rather hole up in a friend's garage, or swimming pool, we get our liquor from the wholesale liquor stores along Buendia. This stretch of liquor stores from Taft Ave. to Leveriza has everything that you might want. Haggle and scout around for the best deals. You will also find stores that sell their liquors with fun stuff such as pitchers, free shotglasses, ice buckets or shirts. Bottles of alcohol here are much cheaper, and this is pretty much your one-stop shop for pretty much everything - from spirits to mixers ,from wines to strange brews for when you are feeling rather adventurous. They say it's all fun and games until someone loses a liver, but hey, at least here we get our libations at a fraction of their cost.

I came here with friends one Friday evening. We wanted to drink but wanted something different. Bars usually just carry the local beers, and if you are lucky, imported ones.. but the selection is limited. So we read on few blogs, found out about Global Beer Exchange and decided its the way to go. Global Beer Exchange is a beer disneyland. I'm pretty sure it's going to be a delight for beer aficionados and enthusiasts. Belgian, North American, Japanese & Californian beers can be tasted here. They even have beers on draft. They also carry Katipunan craft ales, a local brand, like their Dear Fred and Indio. There's so many that we asked the staff to give suggestions on what to drink. Makati is just around the corner, but with Manila traffic, it gets way too tiring to drive there. Alabang is just a couple of bridges away, but the dreadful long drive home isn't the best feeling in the world. Lucky for us, Global Beer Exchange is probably just 5 minutes away from everyone's home. See, the best thing about Magallanes is probably that it's right in the middle from everyone. Yes, Quezon City is quite far, but South people (at least my friends from the south) usually won't go past the Fort area. And a few don't want to meet in Fort, especially on weekends, because parking is difficult and every club and bar is jam packed with yuppies and younglings. Global Beer Exchange may have beers that would cost you 700 pesos, but you just need to look carefully. Though its main market is for beer enthusiasts, you don't really have to be one to enjoy the beer. Just be smart and not order a Heineken or Stella or other beers that you can easily buy in the grocery store. I mean, hello? This is GLOBAL Beer Exchange. They carry beers from all around the world. Beers you probably haven't heard of yet and you're going to order a regular non-craft beer? Be adventurous and try something new. Bring a couple of friends, order different beers each and just do some beer tasting. Food isn't anything great so make sure that you'll be drinking here before or after you eat. Or you can bring some snacks, to munch on. Make sure to ask permission from the bar first though!

With bottles ranging from Php 299 to Php 3,000, there's really something that works within all kinds of budgets. The Wine Depot also has a small deli, where they sell different kinds of cheeses and cured meat. They also have Italian coffee beans on retail. But for the high price, the quality, quantity and services are seriously lacking. They also have strange extra-charges. For example if you ask the left-over food boxed they will charge you a substantial fee for that! We had never seen or heard of such policy anywhere else and they don't inform you of such bizarre fee in advance either! The humidity and pollution don't help this place either. Will not go back and don't recommend it.
