Get an umbrella, chair, a few beers, all for 30 BR. Love it. They have some chips, plenty of drink options, and many vendors come by on busy days. They can order stuff up at the kiosks, too, but it can take forever. The owners are delightfully friendly, shower running, recently acquired wifi. It's a short walk to the post 8 bathroom if you need it. Not nearly as crowded as other areas of Barra beach, but sometimes the waves can be rough, so watch your kids and your belongings, when they start to creep ashore. I feel very safe at this beach by myself, often leaving my things unattended, or watching things for other people. I almost don't want to tell you all how awesome this spot is! But my love for Ed and Marli and desire to see them succeed overrides. Come join me! I'll be the one speaking English and screaming at the waves eating my kanga.

For our first trip we tried a a Brazilian Imperial Stout from Schornstein and were impressed. There's a refrigerator as well, which obviously has chilled beer, or you can pick any off the shelves. The people who work there are friendly and speak English so if you're able to read this you'll be able to get by OK. The only downside is that it is very expensive for just a bottle. It is not air conditioned so be prepared for a long hot wait. There's an electronic kiosk off to the side where you can get a ticket to wait in the queue. There's three options to chose from on the machine: priority mail, standard mail and stamps etc (it's all in Portuguese). The lines are called by letter and number which pop up on the tv screen behind the counter and are shouted out when people don't come right away. They also indicate what number counter you should approach. It took about an hour to mail a package, nearly 30 mins in line to get a box and then we were pushed out of line to fill out the address and waited in line again to mail it. (The lady only took one customer in between but things move at a snail's speed). The prices for packages seemed quite reasonable. It cost R$15 for their largest box (25cm x 57cm x 36cm) and R$43 to mail 6.6kg to Santa Catarina. They said it would take 5-7 days to get there. Be prepared to wait a while but that's what it takes to get things done around here.

It's convenient to the bus lines and not too far from the metro or other restaurants.

Our cruise ship offered a tour today to visit Christ the Redeemer via the train up the mountain…read more They have a separate line for cruise groups so you can get on the same train (we estimate about 120 people across three cars in one trip). They will make this line go thru a 'photo opportunity' and they will present you with prints to buy at the departure point up top. Boarding is a little chaotic, it is high season, so it is very busy, so be prepared to stand in throngs of people to get yourself on the train and up to the top. Once you are up top you have two options you can either climb the 210 steps up to the top or you can take one of three elevators that they monitor. Restrooms are available at the train arrival/departure area. If you take the steps, they're actually done quite nicely so you climb some steps and then you have a bit of a break as you walk around the corner and such. There are also a couple benches throughout and they're actually working on a brand new addition that will have a resting contemplation area so that will be really nice when it's completed. When you get to the top, it is very crowded so bring your patience with you as you try to get the perfect shots because that's what everyone else is trying to do, lol There is a small chapel (in the pedestal) at the top as well and it is apparently a very popular thing to have your child baptized here The views are incredible!!
