we popped in for lunch traveling from Abilene to Breckenridge at noon on a Wednesday in March 2025…read more The crowd was thinning out as it was almost 1 PM. We were told by a regular to seat ourselves and then the waiter appeared. Hubs ordered the lunch special - chicken fried steak, gravy, green beans & potatoes for $12.99; I had the Sally's Chalupa (I think it is #6) - it was delicious fresh fried corn tortilla tostados (2) with beans, lettuce, tomatoes, guac & cheese and sides of frijoles and rice. The place was nostalgic feeling with terrazzo floor and wooden chairs and tables. Full bar available but membership required.

Traveling through Albany Tx, with my Husband it was around eight o'clock, and we needed a place to…read moreeat that was open before the streets shut down, tried to go to steakhouse that used to be the beehive but it was packed, so we relied on Yelp to lead us to the Ice House, ended up parking in the back going in through the bar! It took the waiter a little bit to serve us but when he did we both ordered the Chicken Fried Steak, it came with Salad and Fries. When it came out the waiter said hope you are hungry, because the CFS was on a huge platter! The salad is on the plate, and I asked for ranch dressing ( that had a good favor, but I had to ask for extra because it was kind of watered down, I guess from the lettuce). The extra dressing saved it! The fries were decent but needed additional salt for my taste! Now the chicken steak looked good but it was burnt on all the edges and with it not being very thick was disappointing to say the least! At first I thought it was premade cutlet but my husband said the breading didn't lead him to believe that! I believed it was deep fried, and maybe the oil was too hot! The gravy was underneath the steak so I turned it over to least try to eat it, I was able to eat a little out the middle! I had ordered a diet drink for my beverage, and I thought I was getting a Coke Zero, it had a really off taste like a mixture of sprite, coke, and water! When the waiter came over, I doubled checked my drink order, and he said it was Coke Zero! I would pass on that if I was you! I didn't complain about my food, because we came in late, and it was a busy night, which made it extremely loud from the bar area! We were passing through, and just wanted to leave! Maybe, if there was a next time I would try the Mexican Food! I think I would pass on the CFS!

Had the Street Tacos. Delicious! They were busy, but always very kind! One night I called an order…read morein (found out it was just before closing) and they stayed open a few extra minutes so I was able to pick it up!! Food is great and the customer service goes above and beyond! EDIT: IN REVIEW OF the review below mine stating she's from California and could get the same thing twice the size at half the price; I also am from So. Cal./Az. There is a family ran 'authentic' Mexican food place on every corner back home. Their competition is higher, and they all stay busy, so the revenue they're generating to stay open and support their families in the different markets needs to be taken into consideration BEFORE posting a poor review and ignoring the perspective of your location, demographics, competition, the need to be able to stay open etc. In Abilene, the Mexican food places are fewer and far between. WITH THAT SAID, the prices are NOT horrible. The food is great. I was back home last summer and the same burritos were on average $1.00-$1.75 cheaper than here in Abilene.
