Came in to town for the night while driving back home. This was the only local place open on Sunday evening. We were not disappointed. I had the ribeye and the only thing I can say is WOW. It was huge and came with sides of rice beans guacamole pica etc. if you eat the whole steak no way will you finish the sides. My husband had carne guisada which was delicious tender and full of flavor. The tortillas are homemade. My son had the chicken enchiladas which were also a large portion and very tasty. We found them by accident. Looking for gluten free options and McDonald's was going to be our fall-back. McMuffin with no muffin. ‍ But line was ridiculous. Planned on the grocery store next door for a bowl of fruit for the daughters. This little Mexican restaurant was unassuming and I poked my head in to check. The manager was awesome. Ordered several breakfast items that were gluten free. Food was EXCELLENT! Service was too. I'd highly recommend and we will make this a regular stop when passing through. read more

Ate here for a late lunch on 9/17/20. Restaurant was dirty. Food and paper on the floor. I figured it was maybe because of the earlier lunch rush. Food was okay, nothing spectacular. Went to the restroom and that's when the filth really set in. Toilet paper filled the trash can in the corner (used nasty poop toilet paper). I witnessed roaches on the bathroom walls and floor. Overpriced. Poor customer service. 3 meals plus queso was $40. The extra quest and salsa did not come with extra chips unless you ask. The bag included was much too small. And they forgot to add one of my meals to the order. So when I came all the way back to the restaurant to show them, I was forced to bring all my food back inside the restaurant (even though the cashier recognizes me as I come in because I was here 5 minutes ago). I had a plate with cactus on it and was cooked like my grandmother cooked it back in the day and I had plenty to spare. I'm giving them 1 star because the food was pretty good. The service absolutely sucked! After the waitress brought our food she never came back. We each wanted a margarita and tried to get her attention and she didn't even look our way. My husband ordered fajitas and received 2 flour shells. He ended up eating everything with a fork. She didn't even bring our check. I finally had to walk up and tell the girl at the register where we were sitting so we could pay. And probably the worst part is that I had to watch her in the kitchen fixing her hair twice. She had a mirror propped up fixing her hair in a bun and then coming out waiting on people. Me and my girlfriend were eating, I was having the buffet and she was having a bean burrito. The food was okay until we experienced a cockroach crawling on the window beside us. It was utterly disgusting and I will never go there again. It's been less than a year since I came to El Tapatio. Unfortunately this place has gone down hill since. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, their food is now on the same level as a cheap hole in the wall greasy Mexican/Tex-Mex garbage. The other day my tortillas were slathered in oil, it tasted like vegetable oil. This morning my carne asada tacos were nothing but gristle and torn corn tortillas. This evening, my menudo was as bland as card board and I had more posole than tripas. Needless to say that after I post this, I will not be returning to El Tapatio on my own accord. Brought the family... Everyone enjoyed... I am a fan of homemade lemonade... They had it (albeit sans the pulp)... Chicken Enchiladas with tomatillo sauce were good.. Guisa de Res was temder and flavorful... Daughter thought chimichanga was delicious.. Wife loved her enchiladas, but found quesadilla was greasy... Server was friendly but took about 5 min to arrive to table... Also after we finished, server did not return (even though it was clear that we were done)... My wife pointed out that the server was sitting down watching tv... I would definitely recommend, but don't be in too much of a hurry... read more

I'm not sure how it's possible but they removed all of the taste from everything. Had carne asada and it tasted like, well I'm not sure but it wasn't beef. The margarita tasted like old mix with very little alcohol. The sopapillas had a drizzle of what appeared to be very old chocolate sauce, and were chewy like they had been in the microwave. More roaches than I could count scurried past my table which actually were more attentive than the Wait staff. Not good at all and after reading the glowing reviews I wonder what has happened because the place I ate did not resemble any of the positive reviews. Ranchero beef - cubed & shredded beef simmered in ranchero chili - is absolutely to die for. Guacamole perfect. Pico de gallo fresh to the point of being crunchy; so good I ate it like a vegetable. My staff and I had lunch here on 08/08/16 and it was surprisingly very good. We arrived around noon for lunch and the place was practically empty. I thought that we might find that the food was of poor quality. Just the opposite! It was great and OMG, in such huge amounts. One order can feed 3 people! I ordered the fajitas for one and it was so big it could have fed 3 people alone. It was great and the corn tortillas were fantastic. Service was great as well. Found this little gem on a trip through town. The margaritas were so-so. But the salsa was fantastic, it had a nice bite to it, and a balanced flavor! We had the Biztec steak platter! Food is average tasty status. The last couple of times I ate here, there is a strange taste in the beef that I don't care for. I don't know where they get their meat supplied from. Maybe it is a private farmer, but whatever the source, I choose not to eat the crane asada tacos and beef fajitas anymore. That's unfortunate, because it used to taste pretty good. Menudo is average tasting. This restaurant is not on my list of favorites any more. Don't bother. This was one of the worst Mexican food experiences I have had. The only decent item was the salsa. The meat on the tampiquena plate was tough and fatty and the "guacamole" was more like a salsa verde. There was no identifiable avocado in it. Lots of flies to boot !
