The service here was top-notch and the food was excellent! I love the history of the restaurant, almost as much as I loved my chicken salad on a croissant. The tater tots were fresh and crispy. My friend had the stacked enchilada with an egg on top... It really looked amazing! Tasted good too. Portions were very large. There is a bar attached to this restaurant but we did not go into it. The decor is lovely and it's very spacious. A lot of men wearing cowboy hats in attendance! Definitely make sure you check out the bathrooms before you leave... This place is over the top wonderful in every area. I may get a little wordy, but here goes. The dining room was spacious, every table could be filled, and you'd still be able to walk without asking people to move in. The Bar was equally spacious with plenty of drinking options. We got the deep fried devils egg for the appetizer, these were an amazing combination of texture and flavor. We each got a steak for the main course, both were cooked to perfection and tender beyond anything in our recent memory. The sweet potatoes were so perfectly cooked in seasoned. They were easily consumed using only a fork. We followed up with banana pudding and bread pudding. Both were out of this world. It's unusual to get banana pudding that's made in house and not some flavored glue out of a can. It was topped with whipped cream that actually melted, which told me it was real whipped cream. And it wasn't premade before I ordered because all the vanilla wafers both in it and around, it were crispy and delicious. The bread pudding was equally as delicious. It was dense and sweet and had a nice subtle flavor of bourbon. Stopped in on Mother's Day and expected a wait. We were seated pretty quickly but after ordering it was an hour before they brought the two burgers and salad that we ordered. The Caesar chicken salad was saturated in dressing and the burgers were overdone and lacked the barbecue flavor described on the menu. Any sauces and sides were charged extra. Casey was an excellent server and very friendly! We were just passing through and decided to have a late lunch. My husband had the ribeye and it was cooked to perfection. I had the taco soup which was good just needed some cilantro and more sour cream! The banana pudding was good as well. XIT (10 in Texas) is a great steakhouse restaurant. Sassy bartenders, great service and a unique smoky flavor and seasoning to steaks. Their signature beer bread is hella unique and REALLY good!! Great seats at the bar, ice-cold beer and food that was delivered with care. One of our steaks came out well-done (???) and the bartender immediately recognized the error and sent it back to the kitchen Manager came by to apologize for the wait - and all was good on the new plate. We were passing through Dalhart this past Saturday, September 13, and decided to try this place again. The Mrs. ordered brisket sliders and I ordered prime rib. Diane said her meat was dry on the sliders. My mistake ordering prime rib was not remembering that their meat was smoked. That gives prime rib a very different taste in my opinion. It's a very nice place and we are usually treated pretty well. It is very clean and well organized. Riley our server was awesome to visit with and was very cordial. On our way home from CA, we stopped in again, for the delicious food, the comfortable and western decor, and to see our favorite server, Jose Velasquez! And he was here! He was so very attentive. He made sure our drinks were filled, and our food was served hot. Jose has a very charming disposition. Recent road trip with a stop in Dalhart found a hidden gem. (Thanks Yelp). Wow this place was just what we needed after a long day in the car. XIT is named after a (former) huge ranch in the Panhandle and they carry on the tradition of steaks and grilling. The menu focuses on Texas cuisine, is lengthy with steaks, chicken fried steak, Mexican, and southern items. We had the fried catfish. Delicious, hot and when accompanied with the beans and fried okra, this was a perfect comfort meal. Ryleigh, our server was helpful and friendly and took good care of us. Of note, XIT is oof the main road and unfortunately located in a dry county, so if you'd like to have an alcoholic beverage, you must purchase membership in a private club. I did. We've eaten here before and had a great experience, so this visit was really disappointing. Our server, Cristina G, was extremely rude and kept a blank, uninterested expression the entire time. She never refilled our drinks and never once came by to check on us. We felt completely ignored. The food is actually really good, which makes this even more frustrating. On our previous visit, our server was amazing, so we know this isn't an issue with the restaurant as a whole--just with this server. Nothing is 'soaked' in sauce & crisp when it needs to be! but if you want extra on the side or difference in preparation- no problem. They offer a jalapeno cream gravy, which is delicious. They also have regular cream gravy if jalapeños are not your thing. They offer hot beer bread and butter. We were in Dalhart for the night and wanting some decent food. My pork chop was okay, very thin and small. It was probably 5 bites. My wife had the shrimp and catfish, which she said was good. The bright spot were our salads? Go figure. The service was okay. When our bill came, it was incorrect and had to be adjusted. Also, our server didn't know any of the steak prices. Seems like something they should know since you have to ask them for the prices. The ambiance was good, kind of seemed like a TRH. Hubs had the chicken fried steak it is definitely homemade! Tender meat, well seasoned. Not bland! He had a salad which was generous and more than your average side salad and some decent fried okra. The gravy is a spicy jalapeño with cumin. Yum! I had the kids fried chicken tenders, this girl saves herself for dessert!! They were so good! I read reviews on Yelp about the bread...well, we ordered the bread! IT. IS. AMAZING! It's a beer bread. My other half ordered the one meat bbq plate with okra and "pinto" beans. These beans are charro beans y'all! And spicy...so take that peppermint on the way out!! The brisket was tender with great flavor! I watched him eat it and it flaked with a fork! YUM! I ordered the 12oz ribeye, medium rare, with a salad that had some generic raspberry vinaigrette and fried okra. I was hopeful for a house dressing since this is a steakhouse/bbq restaurant. I hope they make one! The steak was tasty. A little more on the medium side, but tender and tasty. Was it worth $30+, not really...but it was close! Jaime was our waiter and was amazing! We had the most disappointing experience we have ever had so far. We were on a trip and decided to stop to have some rest and food. 1. Our waitress was not fully aware of items on the menu and when we started asking questions, she was not able to answer. 2. The food was horrible. First of all they don't serve the loaf of bread anymore. That it shows in one of their pictures. I have eaten there several times but it has been a while. I got the catfish and shrimp, my husband got the chicken fry. The catfish was little bitty pieces very low quality. And it was I believe $21. My husband's chicken fry was tough in parts he couldn't chew it. We also got cheese covered fries for like $13. We have never paid that much for these anywhere. We both had salad and it must have been 5-6 times that a waitress tried to get my salad bowl that I was still eating on. We waited a few minutes after ordering our fries so we could eat them and then our salad came and with in 2-3 minutes of receiving our salad here comes our meal. Plus they still have a lady that runs around in her like daisy duke shorts and somewhat low cut shirt. She would be so much more attractive/appropriate to dress the part. We are not in Florid. It's the little things that make the difference between average and stellar. Like the free bread with the meal. Heavy, crumby in the best possible way, a hint of sweetness. Or the French dressing. XIT's is not that corn syrup sweetened glop in a bottle; I would believe you if you told me it was made in house. Or the old-fashioned cocktail made with just about any kind of whiskey or bourbon you want. And that dip that comes with the shishito peppers? Creamy, peppery, avocado-y deliciousness. The hubs really liked his prime rib, and I ate nearly every bite of the Trail Boss salad topped with crispy Buffalo chicken (which, I should mention was just the right balance of chicken and crispy). This is clearly the place where locals gather on a Friday for happy hour. The urban barn decor feels lived in yet stylish. Televisions in the background sort of invite you to chill and have another.
