I didn't care for the chimichangas, the beef inside was poorly seasoned and plain. The guacamole tasted like bad avocados and was not seasoned, it could use some salt and garlic. However, the beans and rice were delicious and my boyfriends taco salad was amazing. The steak on his taco salad was delicious. I was going to leave a bad review, but my boyfriend made a good point when he said I may have just not liked what I got, so I will try something else next time. read more

Great place to eat! Always the freshest, hottest, tastiest Mexican food in town. That's why it's so popular - everyone in town goes. Located on the courthouse square on the corner of Highway 62, its convenient location makes it walking distance from my office. The interior is cheerful, with native blankets and sombreros, and the decals on the front windows depict a colorful desert scene, with prickly pears and aloe. I don't get it. Several people in town recommended this place to me. "Authentic," they kept saying. That's what the reviews here say, too. And the sign out front. What's that supposed to mean? That it's not fake Mexican? Just because it's real does not mean it's good. The chips were bland and stale. My steak quesadilla was not a quesadilla at all, but two dried-out, folded-up soft tacos. This is amazing food! We have tried multiple dishes and have enjoyed everything. Their rice and beans are perfect every time! Their chorizo is also very good. The waitress id always friendly. If you want something different she will suggest options. This is a nice place to get lunch. But I hear it is packed at that time. Dinner is a nice calm time if you like that. The ambiance is really nice, bright and kitschy Mexican restaurant in the historic town square. The food wasn't very good or perhaps I ordered the wrong thing. I did, however, LOVE the guacamole, it tasted very fresh. The place was busy when I was there, service was ok. Sodas are served by the can so if you're eating something particularly hot, order two! This is such a good place for authentic Mexican food! It's the best in Altus and some of the best I have had.

There's better in Altus, but it's "OK". The salsa tastes like straight tomato sauce. Always appears dirty. Tiny, tiny place so yes it always looks crowded, but it just doesn't hold that many customers. Just not very good tasting food overall. Look elsewhere if you've never been to it before. read more

What a nice little find in Altus. For my first ever time in the town, I was happy to see an authentic Mexican taqueria! The food was good quality and I loved the chicken that came with my chicken salad. It was essentially a taco salad without the shell. The chicken was juicy and well seasoned. This is one of the few places I've been at in Altus where I am extremely astonished by the taste of the food and service. I've never ordered something off the menu I didn't like. They're chips and salsa are amazing, the staff is extremely attentive and fast. The food was so good! Super surprised just from the other restaurants I've been to around here. They also have really good hot sauce and some greenish jalapeño sauce. The steak tacos/burritos here are amazing. Overall a great experience and I'd give the taste of the food out of 10 a 8.5!! Would definitely recommend coming here, and if you want good food and service I wouldn't really waste your time going anywhere else, unless it's Araceli's, that is at the top of the list of places to go here as well. read more

This is one of those places that I forget about sometimes because I don't spend a lot of time in downtown Altus. My husband and I have been here four times now and the food has been excellent every time. It's a small place and it tends to be busier during the lunch hours than for dinner, presumably due to all the folks who work in the downtown area. The wait staff is always friendly and they work really quickly when it's busy, so no one has to wait for a table for very long. We stopped here for lunch recently and we both had a chicken burrito deluxe with beans and rice, Mexican Coke, chips and salsa. Our waitress was very friendly and I was impressed with how quickly our food was brought to our table. Everything was delicious and the bill was reasonable, less than $20 including tip. Definitely one of the better restaurants in Altus. read more

Since Pick Up Taco closed its doors we have been coming here for our Mex Fix. Actually we have been coming here exclusively. Other places in town are either not authentic (TB, Taco Mayo etc) or are just "ok" and very overpriced. Hernandez has good food at a good price and excellent service. Its basic Mexican not tex mex. Always cooked perfectly. Price, well I usually get the Carne Asada Tacos (2) and my wife gets the Lenqua Tacos (2)or the enchilada plate. 4 Tacos and drinks run us about 14 dollars depending on the condiments you want and how much you drink. The Tacos are PACKED with meat and are worth every penny, really great. The rest of the menu we have tried and liked everything. Two people usually will be under 20 bucks no matter what you order. They take cards. They are closed on Mondays. All drinks are in cans unless you get Tea. Oh and don't skimp on the sauces they provide. Red and Green. Both have heat and are simply wonderful. Get there early for lunch. they get packed! Dinner has always been nice. Not busy and very quiet. Really like this place. A solid 4 no matter what town they are in. read more

I grew up eating authentic Mexican on the south side of Chicago and this is the closest I have gotten anywhere I have been since. Cannot recommend this place enough. read more

Great authentic Mexican tacos, friendly service, and great prices. There are several very good mexican restaurants in altus, but this one is definitely my go-to when I'm here for training. In fact, a few years back they were temporarily closed down while I was here, and my soul was crushed. That was the only reason I had ever tried any other mexican food in town. read more
