A bowl of noodle soup showed up instead of chips and salsa. (Can't say that I'm mad at that). The soup had a nice amount of spice. Got the beef and chicken enchiladas a side of corn and charro beans. After I ordered food came out in about 10 minutes. Very happy as to the wait. I normally don't care for corn tortillas for my enchiladas, but there was so much flavor that I didn't mind. The beans were good however didn't care for the "extras" with them. Was expecting a corn nibblet for my side and was pleasantly surprised with a whole ear of corn. The waitress kept warning me about the hot sauce she brought. While very spicy I found both to have a good flavor. I can say that the next time I am in Hobbs I will come back to Maria's.

There was also complimentary chips and salsa served - at breakfast! I've never seen that before. The salsa was not spicy AT ALL. The green sauce on my plate had a mild kick. Our waitress was nice, but she didn't understand my boss wanted cold chocolate milk when he said "chocolate milk." She came back with hot cocoa and we all busted up laughing when she walked off. He has never liked hot drinks. Did I mention he's my brother too? It's a decent sized place inside. No frills. Kind of dirty. Small parking lot. Busy street nearby. They offered $7.99 delivery through delivery.com which was available via Yelp. That delivery price next to a $2.95 service charge was steep, but I was desperate because I felt like absolute garbage and I rarely take medicine when I'm down. I like to sweat it out with spicy food, cold wet rags, Vicks VapoRub - & now that I'm older - a strong, delicous homemade hot toddy! When I pushed the order through I got a text message at 1:07 saying they were swamped and would be late. The app even said it would be delivered between 1:44-2:14PM. I'm a numbers gal so bear with me... I thought I had time for a nice long needed nap. Nope. I submitted the order at 12:44PM. A nice lady with a smile on her face rang my doorbell at 1:25PM. My order arrived perfect and packed neatly with no messes that I've experienced from other birria places (not in Hobbs because I know of only two others). The broth, also known as consomme broth de birria, was not quite as flavorful as I have had, yet, it was good. I ordered an extra cup ($2.69) because I love to drink that stuff when I've got sinus congestion. The shining star was the Mulitas de Birria ($14.19) with sliced limes and extra onions and cilantro on the side. All four mulitas were still amazingly piping hot - and their brick and mortar is clear on the other side of town! The tortillas still had a slight crispiness to them. They did not skimp on the meat. It was moutwatering good with the green salsa, but that red spicy salsa - that's where it's at. They threw in a few of the cutest, smallest tortilla chips I've every had. They were well-salted. I knew I wouldn't get enough salsa because I never do, so I ordered an extra cup of that red spicy salsa ($4.19). Also, I ordered two jalapeños toreados ($1.58) on the side. Can't wait to be 100% again so I can check out this place in the flesh. Of course I've driven by. It's small and looks kind of dive-ish with bright colors on the outside. My kind of Mexican restaurant.

This restaurant took over the old Mail Services building which I was sad to see go, but this is a very welcome restaurant in this small town indeed. Imagine a much more hip version of the chain Chipotle or the now closed down Freebirds World Burritos in Lubbock, TX. The set up is similar. Start on the left side when you walk in and just tell the crew what you want. Pay at the end of the line at the register before dining in or taking your order to-go. They have breakfast burritos, build your own burritos, bowls, salads, quesadillas, tacos, and "Beast Bags" which entais your choice of Doritos, Hot Cheetos, Tostitos, Takis, or Fritos. You can add your choice of meat, beans, queso, lettuce, pico, shredded cheese, salsa, and sour cream. Kids meals were available. A chicken taco was $9.99 and a chicken quesadilla - the same price. They include a drink. The inside is adorned with colorful murals of humanized burros... some folks might refer to them as donkeys. I really like Dante "Doc" Rios's work! (He's from Lovington!) This little place is easily missed if you're not looking for it on the south side of Hobbs, NM, on Dal Paso St. MY FAVORITE PART... How hot & massive the foul-wrapped burritos were. Very filling. Chiquita's does not skimp on any ingredients. MY LEAST FAVORITE PART... They are open most days at 6AM, but close everyday at 2PM except Sundays. Sunday they are open from 7AM-1PM.
