I really wanted Mexican food for my Birthday lunch/dinner. I've eaten at Las Comales before and it was delicious! I ordered the 4 mini Beef Fajita tacos. Restaurant is run down and in major need of repair. Servers are completely inattentive. We got ourselves menus and after waiting 20 minutes, brought it to their attention that we needed to be waited on. Food came out with no silverware or condiments. Ketchup is one thing, but who eats pancakes without syrup? Seriously. This is the last time I'll give them another try. They have added a bar, but it is incredibly unappealing and uninviting. Salsa is great. Ground beef nachos are a greasy mess. Only able to eat 1/4 of them because they're sitting in grease. They do not spread the meat, sour cream, or guacamole. It's dumped on the side to soak in the grease. The tea is good. No lunch specials listed on the menu. read more

Great TexMex food. Their daily special is one beef taco, rice and beans and two enchiladas of your choice. Chicken, beef or cheese. The cheese is real cheddar and not American. The real stand out is their salsa and their refried beans. The beans were really good. They must use lard or bacon grease. I think we hit these guys on a bad day. The place was packed around when we arrived around 1245 so there was a bit of a day in finding a seat. They have lots of tables for 4-6 but not a lot of 2s so consequently while there were empty seats, they were all at other tables of 2-3 people. Anyway, the place is nice enough, but a little loud as there was a booth full of middle-schoolers who were very noisy and rude. Unfortunately, we were seated right next to them. To be honest, that probably tainted the entire experience. Service was friendly and the food was ok. I was expecting better since the reviews seemed to rave, but it was simple, solid Mexican fare. Nothing special though. I will say that I liked their salsa very much. It was probably the highlight of the meal. I don't think I would visit them again, even knowing that the loud kid thing wouldn't be a factor, it just wouldn't make me go out of my way again like we did to try them. read more

I can't believe that I actually forgot to write a review about this place! Silly me. We came here for breakfast one day, but I didn't find it anything to be excited about. HOWEVER, we came here for lunch/dinner a week or two ago, and I will say that I was actually impressed. I will say that this is probably my new favorite place to get cheese enchiladas (all five of us ordered this). They put a very generous amount of cheese- Not only that, but REAL cheese. None of the fake melty stuff that a lot of places use. You can literally cut up the enchilada with your fork, and the cheese will come following your fork in very large strings (which is a good thing). The salsa is pretty good too, as it's got a pretty nice kick. Not much more to say here, except that the staff are friendly. The restaurant fills up pretty quickly (which is more or less a good thing, unless you are not a fan of crowds). I would recommend this place. read more

Not bad, but nothing to write home about. The chips & salsa are the best part. The enchiladas were good in that they had cheddar cheese instead of the typical American cheese you usually find in this part of Texas, but the gravy tasted a bit off. Very tasty. I only had breakfast tacos. The tortillas were fresh and well stuffed tacos. Tea glasses are big and for me that is a good thing. It is in an old cafe so it doesn't look like a lot of Mexican restaurants. read more

Of the two mexican places on the main roads, this is the superior. The other one's about 25 cents to a dollar cheaper, depending (ex: $2.50 for three breakfast tacos versus $2.25), but the price increase is worth it. I've been a customer for the last couple of years. I primarily just eat breakfast. The breakfast tacos are almost twice the size if you eat in the restaurant, than take home. And the take home breakfast tacos are about 2/3 the size that they used to be. I guess they're trying to save money. Personally, they lost a customer, because there are plenty of Mexican food locations in Cameron that offer more value. Sorry Las Comales...it's the truth. WOW! My husband and I were in Cameron for a wedding and looked on Yelp to see if by chance anyone had reviewed a good breakfast place in the small town. With just one review, we took a chance with Las Comales. It was SO GOOD! Best breakfast we have had in a long time--all fresh and handmade, down to the tortillas for the migas. And you can't beat the price, about $4 for a full meal. We were so impressed that we went back one more time before heading out of town. Give this place a shot. You won't be disappointed. read more

This location is a bit of a hole in the wall but the food is great. I ate there twice while passing through the sticks. I had pancakes and eggs for breakfast and Chimichangas for Dinner and everything was A-OK. I recommend this place if rolling through the Cameron area. read more
