Taralli are crunchy ring-shaped breadstick-like snacks originating from Southern Italy, with a baked dough consisting of flour, olive oil or lard, white wine and savory or sweet seasonings. Popular savory flavors include fennel, pepper, chili flakes and oregano. They're commonly eaten with charcuterie and dips, or as an accompaniment to salad.
On a weekend morning at 9am, the shop was open with only a couple other customers (also tourists). There's not much to this shop, a counter on the right from which you can see all the flavors, a register area, glass-enclosed back section to the right where staff was busy rolling the dough into rings and prepping to be baked. On the left a few seats and merch, a display of boxed taralli in different flavors to go.
I tried a savory basil €1.20 and a sweet lemon sugar €1.70. Both had prominent flavors, which I enjoyed. The texture was kinda like a denser bread stick, which I could appreciate though wouldn't say I'd crave. My preference was the sweeter one bc it tasted like a lemon sugar cookie lol.
Either way, glad I tried them! Staff was friendly with smiles and seemed happy to be there. read more
